The most annoying thing about dealing with racist white people in congress is that very few people will defend you. Most of congress either agree with MTG or want to keep the status quo despite its incredible amount of flaws. It doesn’t help that there’s not really a comeback minorities can use for racist comments. For example, I’m black and in my freshman year of college, I was roomed with a white kid. He’s cool but one of his friends would always make obviously racist comments and then say “it’s just a joke”. One time we were voting on a movie to watch and he said since I was only worth 3/5ths of a person then his group wins. Funniest joke ever right? Now what do I say back? Anything I say is either less scathing or puts him in a further position of power (like calling him racist or something). Luckily, I had the ability to kick him out but other people like me aren’t always so lucky.
