@@mattlaeff724 I will ignore the insult. However, just as you are entitled to your opinion, I am entitled to mine. I don’t watch these reactions to get into this bullshit with people. I listen to some of today’s music, but for the most part, it all sounds the same, with the exception of a few artists. You have a good day
There ARE talents like this these days, of course, BUT there are SO many with varying degrees of less talent that use flamboyant productions, auto tune, pitch correction, etc etc and are what most "younger generations" listen to. I enjoy watching the younger reactors "discover" artists from pre auto tune etc days, and their awe at how good those artists sound live. (Because they can actually sing.lol)
This beautiful melody is from Rachmaninoff's 2nd Piano Concerto...second movement. You ought to listen to the entire concerto...either with Evgeny Kissin, or with Daniil Trifonov. You will NOT be disappointed! Eric Carmen was a classically trained pianist and a BIG admirer of Rachmaninoff. He used another Rachmaninoff theme in his song "Never Gonna Fall In Love Again". That one is from Rachmaninoff's Second Symphony the adagio movement.
The Raspberries Go All the Way is the first hit he had and before he went solo and did power ballads like this. This is great, and so is Never Gonna Fall in Love Again, but Go All the Way is power pop PERFECTION! The Raspberries other hits include I Wanna Be with You, Tonight, Let's Pretend, Overnight Sensation. Eric was a musical prodigy, and was enrolled at the Cleveland Institute when he was just 3 years old. Classically trained on piano and violin. He had a guitar teacher as a young teen, fired him, and got a Beatles' song book, and taught himself all the chords. He wrote the Raspberries songs when he was just 21 or 22, and they had 4 albums, then he went solo, and had this hit as well as another one, also fantastic, called Never Gonna Fall in Love Again, then later on with Hungry Eyes for the movie Dirty Dancing. You have to do Go All the Way - you will absolutely LOVE it!
So sad to hear about Eric Carmen's recent passing! He was a great singer, songwriter, guitarist & keyboardist. He was originally with the group "The Raspberries" & they had a few hits with "Go All The Way" "Let's Pretend", "I Wanna Be With You", "Tonight" & "Overnight Sensation. Eric then went solo & had numerous hit songs in the 70's-80's such as "Never Gonna Fall In Love Again", "She Did It", "That's Rock & Roll", "Hungry Eyes", "Make Me Lose Control", "I Wanna Hear It From Your Lips" etc.
Don’t forget his first group “ The Choir” which included most of the Raspberries but not John Aleksa ( former Denmark) who left music for college and a business career
Eric Carmen is from Cleveland, Ohio. He was the singer in THE RASPBERRIES ... songwriter, musician. React to the song "GO ALL THE WAY." Another ballad from his solo career is "BOATS AGAINST THE CURRENTS."
This was a great reaction. The Bible says " It's not good for man to be alone ". Thank you for mentioning the Bible and also quoting scripture. Eric Carmen was one of my favorite Artists growing up and in my opinion deserved much more credit than he received. Thanks for the reaction!
It kinda sucked back in the '70s when this came out because many radio stations had a time limit per song, so they played a radio-cut of this song without the piano instrumental section. I bought the album (on 8-track!) and was surprised by how much I missed from the radio.
🥰Love this song!! Great reaction! The piano solo is based on the second movement (Adagio sostenuto) of Sergei Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 2. ¡Saludos, desde Argentina!
RIP Eric.....there was a radio edit to this, but what a song in this longer version. Celine Dion did a good version but I prefer this as you can FEEL the emotion by Eric.
Oooh my god!!! As a young teenager in love with someone and feeling so much pain and then listening to this song and now in my fifties realizing why didn't you just tell that person??!! Getting the wrong response could never been worse then the longing in vain.....but how you know better with age and experiance!!!😊❤❤
Far from a one hit wonder in the US! I mean if you count all the hits with the Raspberries alone. Then, there was Never Gonna Fall in Love Again, and then Hungry Eyes was pretty huge here too. That's absolutely wild that he's considered a one hit wonder there.
Right? I know a lot of Brit pop and Manchester/Madchester sound, London Pub Rock, British power pop, and so forth because I was exposed to it, and I've found a lot of people over here in the US aren't as familiar. I was also listening to college radio when most were listening to mainstream. Found out when REM had a radio hit in the 90s how few people knew they existed before that lol!@@donnakubiski5572
Oh, I know lol! I always thought those were quite the lyrics for someone so young to have written.@@JMBOYTV Hope you read my other comment about the Raspberries?
Eric's music with the Raspberries was quite different than his solo material. Raspberries was heavier power pop but just as good. Try Go All The Way to see what I mean.
Rachmaninov never sounded so good (JK)! Carmen is a classical trained pianist. He wrote this song and used Rachmaninov as an inspiration. This song was proposed to be the first single released from his debut album. Arista ran it through their testing site and rejected it, saying it was 97% chance of failure. However, Carmen and Clive Davis pushed for it and Arista reluctantly agreed. The rest, as they say, is history.
Now that you have heard the original do you want to compare it the Céline Dion version that sold tens of millions of copies of that song and put that into another stratosphere vocally here’s a video of her singing the song and to be much more difficult for her it’s a live version at American music awards th-cam.com/video/NnDzxbt4dZ0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=6OtmeDhJNzaYmYk1
There’s no talent like this these days. He was a classically trained pianist with such a beautiful voice ❤
Don't be such a curmudgeon. There is a plethora of amazing talent today. Move forward, find it, enjoy it -

Yes he was good…..but his song went into another stratosphere with the exceptional voice of Céline Dion

Eric and I followed each other on Twitter, super nice guy. RIP Eric
This is a whole different animal now that I'm in my 60's 😮

Used in the opening of the great movie Bridget Jone’s Diary. Perfectly placed.
never heard this version it is sad and beautiful at the same time
The absolute best!
Losing him was a huge blow.
A great composer. Check out "Never Gonna fall in Love Again", and his band, Raspberries, " Go All the Way ".
RIP.
RIP Eric!
Barry Manilow's - Could it be magic runs in the same vein. You will love it.
That is my favorite Manilow and possibly the most beautiful love song ever. 🎵 ❤
watched barry manilow's concert in manila in 94, it was amazing
Good evening,
for me it's the one and only version that has meaning, live it's even more true and poignant I love it
🥰Love this song!! Great reaction!
The piano solo is based on the second movement (Adagio sostenuto) of Sergei Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 2.

Now that is a darn good classic,❤ it.
RIP Eric.....there was a radio edit to this, but what a song in this longer version. Celine Dion did a good version but I prefer this as you can FEEL the emotion by Eric.
This is a real Tear Jerker. It put Eric on the map and the radio. Celine Dion had a huge hit doing it. A karaoke favorite for sure.
I'm pretty sure Go All the Way put him and The Raspberries on the map and definitely on the radio, and in a BIG way, to be honest....
Classic classic song. I haven’t heard this I a couple of years. Thanks for song!

the kind of sad song that no one writes anymore, and that fm radio will not play. the central piano section is taken from a concerto by rachmaninoff.
Bought this album on a whim. I was truly impressed by it.
It is a great song and great performance. But it was a one hit wonder in the UK peaking at #12.
Far from a one hit wonder in the US! I mean if you count all the hits with the Raspberries alone. Then, there was Never Gonna Fall in Love Again, and then Hungry Eyes was pretty huge here too. That's absolutely wild that he's considered a one hit wonder there.
@@lauraallen55I am surprised at that fact also. It's funny how music resonates differently in one place from another.

His old age - he was 25 or so when he wrote this!
I just meant “older” as in being an adult
Oh, I know lol! I always thought those were quite the lyrics for someone so young to have written.@@JMBOYTV Hope you read my other comment about the Raspberries?
Brilliant. Also, listen to Charice's version -- it's the greatest vocal known to humans.
Eric's music with the Raspberries was quite different than his solo material. Raspberries was heavier power pop but just as good. Try Go All The Way to see what I mean.
As usual you did the longer album version, the radio chopped out most of the middle instrumental parts.... Cool, again
