Thank you so much, great info...I think that Nikon Zf will be the new king for all time...
Finally Nikon did the right thing to merge old style and high tech.

Thank you for sharing this tutorial. Unfortunately the F7 - Release button to use dial doe snot work for changing quickly the autofocs mode. For example if I want to quickly switch from Tracking 3D to single pin point (or other), I still need to keep prssing the button and rotale the dial. This is a shame on Nikon. Is there any solution or hack for this?

Maybe it's the control you're using? I tested that out with both the Fn button and the Video record button, and I was able to press & release that button, change both the focus mode and AF area with the command dial, then press & release the button again to disable the selection.

@@PeltierPhoto thank you for replying. I don't know what's wrong with this camera. I set the F7 in the way you suggested in the video. I keep activated traking 33d with AFC as default and set Fn button with wide area AFC with subject detection and it doesn't work when I release the button it will be back to the 3d tracking. So to make it stay with wide area I have to keep pressing the button without release it. It doesn't work in my case.

@@emilianorusso3571 oh I see, I think I understand how you have it set up. Is your Fn button set to "AF-area mode" with Wide selected? If so, that's in the "Press" category of controls, meaning that mode will only work when the control is pressed. That's actually how I have my L-Fn button set up, to automatically start 3D tracking. But it only works when holding the button, then reverts to the previous setting when released.
If you want the Fn button to allow you to change focus modes, you need to set it to "Focus mode/AF-area mode" which is in the "Press + command dials" category of the list.
The custom setting f7 option is only applicable to the functions in the "Press + command dials" category.

@@PeltierPhoto Thank you so much for replying again. I don't understand why Nikon made it so hard to use. I simply wanted to change AF mode by pressing one time that button and this is not possible. It's really hard to use in a wedding session. I also tryed to set "Focus mode/AF-area mode" but it only gives me 3 mode to select: The mode that is already in use, AF single and manual focus. This is so baaad in Nikon. They really need to make this easier.

@@emilianorusso3571 that "Focus mode/AF-area mode" also allows you to change the AF areas with the sub (front) command dial. So you use the main (rear) command dial to choose between AF-S, AF-C, and MF, and use the front dial to change between Single point, Wide, 3D-tracking, etc. You can make selection of your desired AF area mode much faster by disabling the ones you don't want in custom settings a8. So if you only want to use that button to cycle between Wide (L) and 3D, for example, you just choose those two in a8 and now that front command dial will only toggle between those two when you push that Fn button.

On the Z9 when you make an exposure you get a frame(?) that indicates an exposure has been made without blacking out the screen. Can you do that with the Zf?

Yes, it's the custom setting d13 Release Timing Indicator. It only works in the C30 high-speed burst mode. That's the only feature that matches what you're describing and is also found in the Z9.

Learn how to properly pronounce the name NIKON (notice NO 'Y' and I might watch !

Thanks for your input but I'm going to keep my American pronunciation because Nikon is okay with it. I'm also going to keep saying "zee" and not "zed".
