I only received this for my PS2 the other day, was so looking forward to playing what I thought would be a version of Golden Axe that was how I remembered it being when I was a kid of the lake 80s. Ooh my god, what is this...... I'll happily go back to the mega drive version...
+tuffasgong Ideally I'd like to get to a point of 1 videos a week, but at the moment that feels impossible with my work/life schedule. I will try to make them as regularly as possible though :-)
Very nicely put together video - great feature too, shame the games weren't really any better than the original classics though as the concept does sound pretty interesting:) Anyway, a quality job done so thank you for putting it on TH-cam :)
"Bonanza Bros. is a waste of time", Billy! Where do we keep the anthrax letters?! Great review dude, the sequence with your mate was pisser :D I got this game on launch day, all I did was play Space Harrier and Fantasy Zone, this had the potential to be amazing.
+SEGA PIT Haha. Okay maybe "a waste of time" was a little harsh, but I just didn't see the point in that and columns really when the original versions weren't much different :-) Also did you see the out take at the end? ;-P Haha, I really enjoyed Fantasy Zone more than I thought I would. Quite addictive!!
3:42 This level was part of the difficulty curve and is the same on most ports. Not being able to clearly see the edges of the road was part of the challenge. IIRC this level also had a lot of blind crests
+JustAFigment Haha it took a lot! I think it took us about an hour and a half to setup the camera, lights and get everything done. We just mess about too much! :P
Mad didn't know about this collection. Golden Axe/ Streets of Rage were the first things I though about being inside, shame the former is so rubbish. Ace video, nice seeing Virtual Racer again, used to love it in the arcade.
+MyGamerXP Butchered is the right word for that Golden Axe. There's a game on Steam called The Takeover, have you seen it? It's supposed to be a modern Streets of Rage, but I don't like the look of it at all.
+Retro Gamer P Yeah unfortunately this was a bit of a wasted opportunity. More a lazy attempt to make some money. Space Harrier was pretty fun though, but for a more modern outrun, definitely check out the Xbox (Original) and PS2 sequels :-)
Tant - R Bonanza Bros Outrun and Virtua Racing are all awesome! The rest of the games are decent (Including Alien Syndrome) ,but Golden Axe is a nightmare!!!!!
Hilariously I bought this for Alien Syndrome not realising the Pal version removed that. FML. (oz here). Need to do more research in future when buying compilation games and only watching AU/EU reviews.
I really couldn't wait for this to be released back in the day...purely for virtua racing. It was one of my favourite arcade games and I love this version. Your right though, there are some stinkers in this collection. Shame...
+SoulFunkRetro Yeah this had so much potential. If they'd put in more effort and included more games, it would have been an essential purchase and a tribute to those classics. :-(
+Big Cals World Oooooh yes, the Sega Genesis / Mega Drive collections on Xbox 360 and PS3 were much better, eventhough they were just the games as they were, rather than "updates" as such. Some things are just better left alone if people aren't willing to put the effort in to make it amazing :-)
+MyGamerXP definitely better left alone, which is why I suggested everyone stick to the MD collection. Its also on PS2 and PSP, I have the PSP version. PS3 and 360 ones have some more games though, but I enjoy the portable PSP version myself.
+Dongled Yeah they took it out to get a lower age rating >.> But they should have put something else in its place, like the Monster World Collection was that's nearly all in English already.
Something that always struck me ( And I have not done my Research ) Is the thought that Opa-Opa reminds me of the old French cartoon Watto-Watto. I have no prove that Sega ever got the idea from A French cartoon about a magic bird. But this always makes me wonder. This is Watto I Mean LOL! th-cam.com/video/iW-9gYKBAoQ/w-d-xo.html
Nice review. You give a good insight into each game. Now here is there sticky part... I was more than prepared to sub you but that sticky part I mentioned is Patroen. I dont support it and unfortunately won't support your good self, your free to do as you please but Id love to know the financial gain of having such a tained scheme on your channel with only 700 subs?
Hey there! I'm glad you enjoyed the video :-) Yeah there's a lot of mixed feelings about Patreon and I'm not a big TH-camr by any means. It is entirely optional though and I try not to push it too hard. I would never be offended by anyone who wouldn't want to donate. It's purely an option for people that do :-)
Just got this as I saw it for fairly cheap at the local retro shop and just wanted to try it from seeing this video. Wow, you are not kidding about Golden Axe. It is AWFUL! Not only do the visuals look cheap as can be, it just plays terribly. How they truly messed up the gameplay of Golden Axe is beyond me.
+tuffasgong yeah it broke my heart! Completely wasted potential here. I'll also be reviewing the Golden Axe Xbox 360 game in the future (when I can build up the courage! Lol).
If you stick around to 5:58 I've included some awful outtakes 😂

Fantastic video as per usual :) so happy i got to see this before i run off lol :) BRILLIANT STUFF
+Daniel “Slope's Game Room” Ibbertson Aww thanks mate!!! Glad you enjoyed it! :-)
Great to see the videos coming out more frequently, keep up the good work!
+tuffasgong Ideally I'd like to get to a point of 1 videos a week, but at the moment that feels impossible with my work/life schedule. I will try to make them as regularly as possible though :-)
+MyGamerXP I hear ya man, gotta focus on real life first!
Excellent video, as always! However, I'm still not talking to you after you invited me round play Golden Axe...
Very nicely put together video - great feature too, shame the games weren't really any better than the original classics though as the concept does sound pretty interesting:)
Anyway, a quality job done so thank you for putting it on TH-cam :)
+Keith 'The Fat Gamer' Last Thank you Keith! :-)
I wanted to try the Golden Axe one once I heard the music for it, but seeing the gameplay changes my mind.
Nice overview Matt! Looks pretty dire, except for fantasy Zone which actually looks decent.
"Bonanza Bros. is a waste of time", Billy! Where do we keep the anthrax letters?!

Gillius Thunderhead looks like he's depressed about eating too many pies since the original release. Poor little guy.
+Karlos Morale YES!!! That describes it perfectly! Haha :-)
3:42 This level was part of the difficulty curve and is the same on most ports. Not being able to clearly see the edges of the road was part of the challenge. IIRC this level also had a lot of blind crests
Good job on this one! Love the outtakes at the end! How many takes did it take you guys?? LOL
+JustAFigment Haha it took a lot! I think it took us about an hour and a half to setup the camera, lights and get everything done. We just mess about too much! :P
MyGamerXP LOL....I imagine. Great job, though! It turned out well!
I've got this in my collection and only really played virtua racing. Fantasy zone looks ok so I'll give they another try.
Nice review!
+GRUSS Newton No Space Harrier?!?!?! It's more fun than it looked in the video, trust me! ;-)
+MyGamerXP I'll give it a go :-)
Congrats on the 700 sub milestone as well
+GRUSS Newton Thank you! That one kind of snuck up on me! :-)
my thoughts exactly..great review.
Mad didn't know about this collection. Golden Axe/ Streets of Rage were the first things I though about being inside, shame the former is so rubbish. Ace video, nice seeing Virtual Racer again, used to love it in the arcade.
+Luke's Game Page Yes I'm glad they didn't butcher streets of rage! That might have killed me!!! :o
+MyGamerXP Butchered is the right word for that Golden Axe. There's a game on Steam called The Takeover, have you seen it? It's supposed to be a modern Streets of Rage, but I don't like the look of it at all.
Good review, i love these games but it doesn't look like they did them much justice with these remakes
+Retro Gamer P Yeah unfortunately this was a bit of a wasted opportunity. More a lazy attempt to make some money. Space Harrier was pretty fun though, but for a more modern outrun, definitely check out the Xbox (Original) and PS2 sequels :-)

very cool :)
you forget to mention that the car in outrun isnt ferrari
Was that a gungun impression?
+Martin Bradford Hahaha, no but I do a pretty good Chewbacca impression! :P
Probably best for everyone to just stick to the Mege Drive/Genesis collections they released instead lol.

This shit is my childhood
So this is different to the Sonic collection on the PS2 right?
+Martin's Games Yes, that is more just a collection of Mega Drive / Sega Genesis games :-)
MyGamerXP ahh ok i didn't know this existed, i have the PS3 one with about 30 games on there i believe.
Wow...you guys didn't get Alien Syndrome with your version?! That is bullshit.
+Dongled Yeah they took it out to get a lower age rating >.>
But they should have put something else in its place, like the Monster World Collection was that's nearly all in English already.
+Larry Bundy Jr Ah yes I should have mentioned that in the video really! lol. Always hard to squeeze everything in as I'm aware I waffle on for ages!
MyGamerXP
haha, that's cool!
