I recon he had a very rare and exceptional talent to put 2 good things together. His banjo playing is basic but relaxed, a little like his stinging style. Just alright on their own but the 2 together is incredible. Most musicians can get either the voice good, or the instrument. But rarely both. Stringbean had the ability to dumb down 1 or the other in places which gives his songs a very cool personality that you dont hear much of today
David ( String) and Estelle had no children. Although they admired and loved their nieces and nephews. They would travel often to Jackson County Ky to see their extended family.
I'm 57. I miss country music like these guys. Nowadays country music sucks eggs. I remember the Porter Waggoner Show when I was little. I always wanted one of Porter's rhinestone suits. They were the coolest.
@@RalphieboyIt's heartbreaking. His friend and neighbor Grandpa Jones noticed he was late for the fishing trip they had planned and found them dead the next morning. It would make a heck of a film.
Porter thought alot of string. I was a young woman when string was around. But I remember. I was a teenager. A true living legend. He was amazing. He is truly missed.
I remember being in western Tennessee in the summer of 1965 watching The Porter Wagoner Show on a black and white TV. We lived in Finley, an incorporated little town about five miles west of Dyresburg.
His story is so fantastic. Trading 2 chickens for his banjo at age 12 with a musical family and grandpa jones and friends. I can just imagine their back/front yard gatherings. Just fantastic taste of true Americana. Just love it!
It must be the 3rd time I've watched this. The old time actors and players always intrique me. I love them all. Wish i could turn back the clock of time.
I can remember watching all those great country music shows as a kid. That was country music back then. This so called country music today isn’t worth listening to.
Roy, Stringbean, Bobby, Grandpa Jones. Four legends right there. I don’t see Buck Trent in on this video. But he’s also a very talented Banjo picker that was also on Hee Haw.
If string is 6ft5, then porter Wagoner must have also been a very tall man. God love string. He was truly a good, gifted, modest, humble man. None like him then or now. Miss you string. You and Estelle are so missed.
It's funny he used the clawhammer style on Pretty Little Widder, but on the "Heavy" he reverted to his old 2 finger roll like he used with Bill Monroe in the 40's..
The classic costume, too perfect. But he knew they were cutting into his time, and was not impressed. Celebrity was never more important than the music. He could have taught us so much.
yup. "I went down to the river in my ford truck with a six pack of beer just looking for a fu*k." Just made that up but just as good as any lyric you would hear from country music today.
Growing up I had several albums of "bean". Also Dave Macon. I liked Bean for his whimsical act. But he hardly ever changed chords on live tv. He did on Run Rabbit Run but mostly he would play in open G and play melody only. Out of harmony. Great entertainer. Master of banjo??
He was saggin before saggin was cool. Lol. His ways with the banjo more than made up for it tho. Can definatly see why he made the cut all those years ago.
"The mastering of an instrument" was a understatement when it came to this man.
dntlss r to get
dntlss he made his mark thats for sure

String was so relaxed on stage. He would bring the best out in anyone that was on stage with him. He was a very giving and caring person.
The bean was a master of the banjo. How sweet it was. There will NEVER be another one like the bean.
@Keith Clark He was one of the best banjo players who ever lived you moron.
A better time with better people. I sure do miss them.
David ( String) and Estelle had no children. Although they admired and loved their nieces and nephews. They would travel often to Jackson County Ky to see their extended family.

50s,60s and 70s were great years !
Everyone there have sadly passed away but their legend will live on the internet
Sure do miss old string bean, he's one of my all-time favorites.
Those were the days. God bless stringbean. He really was the Kentucky wonder.
A movie must be made of this great performer!
100%. Yes!
@@political-social It would have a rather tragic ending...
@@Ralphieboy, all the more reason to make a biopic movie about him.
@@RalphieboyIt's heartbreaking. His friend and neighbor Grandpa Jones noticed he was late for the fishing trip they had planned and found them dead the next morning. It would make a heck of a film.
String bean was awesome…
There will never be another one who can play the way string did! One of a kind! Karl

2 of my favorites. Roger Miller and Stringbean
God bless you stringbean. Best banjo picker ever. No one today can pick a banjo like you
It must be the 3rd time I've watched this. The old time actors and players always intrique me. I love them all.
Wish i could turn back the clock of time.
Whole bunch of talent on that stage. Some of them left us too soon. Roger, String,.....
I can remember watching all those great country music shows as a kid. That was country music back then. This so called country music today isn’t worth listening to.
It didn't get any better than this. He truly was the Kentucky wonder. Amazing!. A living legend.

Don't you just love it? String was awesome! Amazing! So missed.
Oh freaking mazing!!! Thought I was the only one who remembers this greatness. Lucky to be an old geezer who saw this
What an immensely talented man.
Great showman.
Porter always ended his show saying, " What is to be will be and what ain't to be just might happen.
His comedy was painfully corny at times at times, but he's one of the best of that style of banjo I have ever seen
It doesn't get any better than this! The Kentucky wonder Stringbean!
Thank you Randle!!
Randell!
String's getup onstage was something but just listen to him play -- this is no novelty joke act.
If string is 6ft5, then porter Wagoner must have also been a very tall man. God love string. He was truly a good, gifted, modest, humble man. None like him then or now. Miss you string. You and Estelle are so missed.
I thought that also Porter was eye to eye with him.
Porter probably wearing platforms
It's funny he used the clawhammer style on Pretty Little Widder, but on the "Heavy" he reverted to his old 2 finger roll like he used with Bill Monroe in the 40's..
Thank you string
The great stringbean
An outstanding shoow.
He shld b in the hall of fame yes ago
The classic costume, too perfect. But he knew they were cutting into his time, and was not impressed. Celebrity was never more important than the music. He could have taught us so much.
Did anyone notice how fast strings fingers moved on his banjo?
The beano was so talented at the banjo...wow....what an amazing talent...sings awesome too!! Ashame he was murdered!
"Bottlecap" banjo!
Ol' Stringbean was a thrifty ol' country boy who knew how to guard that old solvency!
String and Grandpa Jones was so showmen
God I play his style of banjo picking and I will never be as talented as he was!
❤❤❤ Miss you buddy. six years old when I first saw you play. and every your actor with mom and dad.🫵💋 this day thank you.😊
Bless him and his wife x
Porter was one of my moms favorite singers !
This is REAL country music not the trash that passes for "country" music these days.
elaine smith you don't like Carrie Underwood??????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!..... she good not trash
She's not trash but she also is not Real country.
He was great, yep that was real country, what they call country now is pop music, all electronic music not as much skills
yup. "I went down to the river in my ford truck with a six pack of beer just looking for a fu*k." Just made that up but just as good as any lyric you would hear from country music today.
. . tru-dat
Holy crap this dude can play banjo
Fantastic, demais - maneco - Porto Alegre -RS - Brasil.
The suit the guy has on initially is un believable I want one!
Me too!! His rhinestone suit was so pretty!!😍
Thank you Randall. Love string. Got more string? He was my all time fave.

Don't you just love it?
Holy cow that takes me back a long time good old string
Back when I wasn't even thought of lol the good ol days.

Paulo Brasil muito bom👍
Can his grand grandson play like him and let his love spread like 1960s
I remember watching Stringbean on he ha when I was a kid. Couldnt believe it when he and his wife were murdered.
He really could play that banjo great watching
I know why I feel sorry for this super country music singer as if he was killed yesterday
Granny couldn't get enough of this trash, and I couldn't get enough of granny
R I P Porter, Stringbean and Granny 😫
Y'all realize Stringbean was gangsta before gangsta was a thing? ha ha
He was sagging his pants before any of these whippersnappers
Flip that hat son!
This man was and is a Master at that banjer lol
Love me Stringbean !1!!
He is funie....
Couple of tall boys
the first person that started saging there pants LOL
He started a craze for the blacks in the ghetto! Lmao
Stringbean got his first pair of pants like that from Little Jimmy Dickens
That is true.
Die Bohnenstange ist ein exzellenter Musiker
Mercy
Stringbean! The original "sagger"!
Kinda like Merle Haggard said in one of his songs...” back when the country was strong”...
Back when a song was still a song. By Davin James
Now I know where Ritchie Blackmore got his technique!!!
😊😊😊
The Original Gangsta! 😃
So hip hop cribbed from the stringbean
Other than String had talent.
Claw hammer banjo
Nice jacket
When he died so did Nashville.
He was saggin before saggin was cool. Lol. His ways with the banjo more than made up for it tho. Can definatly see why he made the cut all those years ago.
That s. Funny
I like country music. But couldn't understand the song.
What tune is this?
Pretty Little Widow
If you're from below the Mason Dixon it's "Pretty Little Widder" ;)
lonny donegan "battle of new orleans"
First man to sag his britches.
I don't think String appreciated Roger Miller butting in like that and also making that comment about Strings music improving.
Piute Rancareia
It’s his fault there’s saggin britches.
Who ever murder stringbean I don't like it
it so sad you were murdered by your 2 cousins
his pants not sagging
String got the idea for the pants from little Jimmy Dickens.
You mind is sagging!
