As a single mother who really messed up at parenting, may I offer my sincerest apologies to children who were raised by unpredictable mothers. I was over protective, yelled, and cussed a lot. I'm 63, now. After my children were grown, two of them couldn't stand me. I went to therapy to try and salvage what was left of my family. I found out I had/have PTSD. I've changed a lot, but the damage I did still greatly affects two of my grown children. I will live with the guilt, shame, and grief for the rest of my life. My apologies for those who were parented by people like me.

Good for you. ❤️ My mother was also emotionally and physically abusive (not sexually). She said really mean things like I wish I aborted you, many times. But she will NEVER EVER admit a mistake. She said something really hurtful to me out of nowhere, in a bus full of other people once. I felt really hurt, ashamed especially because she said something really bad. My sister and the others in the bus also heard. When my sister said, "How can you say something hurtful like that?" She said: "Go to hell" to her. And my sister is really religious. A year later I tried talking to her and said that really hurt my feelings and embarrassed me. She said: "I rather die than apologize." I said you don't have to apologize, but at least you can say, that was wrong for me to say. She changed the story twice. First she said someone else said it, later she said it wasn't about you, but another person. I still love her and have contact with her. Never cursed once to her, while she would curse me out daily. She's too old now, I know she won't change. She also victim blames a lot.😢

This bio mom sounds identical to my mom. My mom use to sell me to the neighbor to support her drug habit but didn't sell my sister. Even though she did all that to me I would defend my mom to this day. She got clean later on in life i decided to forgive and let it go after finding out what her childhood was like. My friend asked me how did I feel not getting an apology from her and I said " if she ever told me sorry, I wouldn't have been able to forgive because then I would know what she did was wrong the whole time. Children raised in the same household with the same parents can have totally different experiences. Some are favored and get away with everything, they are the tattle tales. Then you have the Scapegoat who receives all the anger of the parent. The rest of the kids could be ignored and that is also abuse. My mom raised me and my two sisters all alone working two jobs and going to nursing school. She was a severe working alcoholic and was mentally abusive, but I will tell you what as strict and all that other stuff she was I still love my mother. We always had clothes, food, and a roof over our head. My mom is gone now and I miss her terribly. She cleaned her act up in my later years, and I forgive her.

Trust me, as a single mother, you do not always have the answers, no matter what you do. I'm 5ft tall. The work i had to do to keep them on a straight line was triple time. You take any help, any advice and pray a lot. And you know what, it worked, because everyday, i said, i love you, i love you, you can do better, I'm proud of anything good you do. They both manage vineyards now, they've worked since they left school, they don't drink, they don't do drugs, they would never hurt a woman or their children, they laugh a lot. All humans are different, they react differently, respond differently etc. I've also seen situations were manipulative adults work there magic on kids to. I never felt sure about Ally’s story, but I will say that as a someone who grew up with an abusive mother, no child who grew up in a healthy home is gonna run & tell these stories especially for this long at her age. There was either some level of abuse, or Ally has severe mental illness, and if it’s mental illness, then the mom would be sounding a lot more concerned instead of angry. Mom sounds mad about the loss of control rather than hurt. In narcissistic families, mothers pit their children against each other. She makes one the scapegoat, and the other the golden child. The golden child will often do the mother’s bidding. Hope that’s not the case here but mom’s energy is giving toxic.

As a single mother who really messed up at parenting, may I offer my sincerest apologies to children who were raised by unpredictable mothers. I was over protective, yelled, and cussed a lot. I'm 63, now. After my children were grown, two of them couldn't stand me. I went to therapy to try and salvage what was left of my family. I found out I had/have PTSD. I've changed a lot, but the damage I did still greatly affects two of my grown children. I will live with the guilt, shame, and grief for the rest of my life. My apologies for those who were parented by people like me.

My sister and the others in the bus also heard. When my sister said, "How can you say something hurtful like that?" She said: "Go to hell" to her. And my sister is really religious. A year later I tried talking to her and said that really hurt my feelings and embarrassed me. She said: "I rather die than apologize." I said you don't have to apologize, but at least you can say, that was wrong for me to say. She changed the story twice. First she said someone else said it, later she said it wasn't about you, but another person. I still love her and have contact with her. Never cursed once to her, while she would curse me out daily. She's too old now, I know she won't change. She also victim blames a lot.😢

This bio mom sounds identical to my mom. My mom use to sell me to the neighbor to support her drug habit but didn't sell my sister. Even though she did all that to me I would defend my mom to this day. She got clean later on in life i decided to forgive and let it go after finding out what her childhood was like. My friend asked me how did I feel not getting an apology from her and I said " if she ever told me sorry, I wouldn't have been able to forgive because then I would know what she did was wrong the whole time. This isnt the worst one of the interviews. They both manage vineyards now, they've worked since they left school, they don't drink, they don't do drugs, they would never hurt a woman or their children, they laugh a lot. I never felt sure about Ally’s story, but I will say that as a someone who grew up with an abusive mother, no child who grew up in a healthy home is gonna run & tell these stories especially for this long at her age. There was either some level of abuse, or Ally has severe mental illness, and if it’s mental illness, then the mom would be sounding a lot more concerned instead of angry. Mom sounds mad about the loss of control rather than hurt. In narcissistic families, mothers pit their children against each other. She makes one the scapegoat, and the other the golden child. The golden child will often do the mother’s bidding. Hope that’s not the case here but mom’s energy is giving toxic.
