Space Marines and demons often get all the credit for deadliness in Warhammer 40k, however the fauna is just as insane if not moreso

The fact that neither Tyranids nor Orks have invaded Catachan speaks volumes about just how deadly its nature is. Granted, Tyranids have sent infiltrator bioforms there in the past, but there has been no large-scale invasion by the Great Devourer.

On the main page it showed your comment as first, but on clicking to continue reading it was majorkill's geologie info. Spent a confusing 10 secs wondering why someone would want to see the primarchs most prominent skincare package, followed by another 30-40 secs of wondering if space marines do have skin care routines...
There is a short story with a feral world where literal plasma belching dinosaurs took down titans.
In the grim darkness of the far future there is only Pacific Rim
@@aidonpor8211 yeah, only those Jeagers lost.
It is in the Warhammer 40K anthology "Let the Galaxy Burn". The natives tie a Princeps from a defeated Titan to the head of one of the dinosaurs and the Princeps prays for exterminatus from the ships in orbit.
@@mando686 it was long ago that I read it.
@@mikewaterfield3599AborderPrince has the audiobook on his channel, he's got a great voice. That's where I heard it too. But if my memory serves, it's also ancient- pre 2000's lore, that is- so there were some aspects of the story that don't exactly make sense in current canon.
But who really keeps the receipts of GW's retcons and addendums anyway?
Fun fact: There is a species of pig called the Babirusa that has life long growing tusks kinda like the crotalid and are known to die from their tusks penetrating their brain.
Nature really cucked that pig professionally, you forgot the bigger the tusks the more likely they're to mate. So it's live as a virgin or die and lay some pipe.
Boars have that same problem, IIRC.
Lol
Hamsters and/or guinea pigs do the same.
That's what he's talking about@@NCRVeteranRanger
Leman Russ wanted a ring of Space Wolves to surround the Eye of Terror.... but a Radical Inquisitor could have one upped him and surrounded the Eye of Terror with a bunch of Void Krakens
But Void Krakens wouldn’t attack warp matter
@@averageeughenjoyer6429 Does that apply to Chaos Space Marines though? Their ships and them are all part of RealSpace. Even if there is Warp corruption present on the ships.... the ships are still physical.
@@mrckapm2241 In best case scenario they are badly maintained which can lead to getting them covered with Warp matter, often ships are covered in demonic growths from the outside. Void krakens eat minerals not living things
@@averageeughenjoyer6429 Damn. The longshot plan of the radical Inquisitor just got even more longshot
Well we all know the real apex Predator of the setting: Sly Marbo. Also to explain a little of the evolutionary sense behind why Barling Toads explode. We see this in real nature, animals who taste bad when they are eaten might die but they curb the predators tendency to eat them by teaching that they taste bad. Same idea but 40k standards.
so toad does the teaching by wiping out half the predator’s population
@@fareastslav
It's like the "kills 99.9% of all germs" label.
The remaining 1% is left to tell the tale, as a warning.
Isn’t there a species of African ant that explodes?
@@robertnelson9599I’m not sure if it’s African but yea there is an ant that does explode, they contain a liquid that is both toxic and sticky. Blowing themselves up on attacks to keep ‘em still for attacks or to drive em away
The dinosaurs on Pythos were warp infused, as one of the legionaries pointed out how could everything in an ecosystem be predatory.
how many of them are there
yeah, at the start of the book, i thought it's some kind of khornite adjecent planet.
@@ishaangill3628 the mega mutated dinosaurs? they've been killing waves afte ways for days. And there was still a lot left at the end of the book.
I mean that’s pretty much what most animals are in the deep ocean
@@____Carnage____there always has to be something at the bottom that isn't eating other living things, carnivores can't exist without there being something that can't eat them back
There is a story of a small group of 3 warlord titans landing on a planet full of Godzilla like dinosaurs too. I think a tribe of locals had tamed some of the dinosaurs. But it took all three titans to kill just one and then that caused the rest of the unseen herd to come charging and destroyed the titans utterly. I believe it was AborderPrince who read the story on TH-cam.
From 'Let The Galaxy Burn', I remember that one.
Short story: "Battle of the Archeaosaurs" from one of the anthology books. One of my favorites
That was a short story. It ended with the people on the ships in orbit deciding on Exterminatus and then, in a last scene change, it went to a surviving Princeps in a cage on the planet, shouting "EXTERMINATUS!" into the air

Ah yes, Sateev R'ryne, the - *_legally distinct_* - mentor of Sly Marbo himself.
An absolutely legendary guardsman born and raised in the deepest bowels of Catachan. The only man on Catachan who has never survived its fauna and flora, not because he died immediately after being born, but because he never _needed_ to survive. For he Thrived on his beloved homeworld.
That Lion's head will look great above my door!
It should be noted that according to Lukas the Trickster the Krakens might not even be Fenris’ apex predator, and he theorized there is something bigger that forces the kraken to flee to the surface in the first place.
I wouldn’t trust him
@@averageeughenjoyer6429why not? Are you saying someone named lukas the trickster is untrustworthy? I think that might be profiling
If there was something bigger, the Space Wolves would have found and killed it.
In regards to the boom frog’s evolution issue. There’s a tortoise in California that pees when it gets scared. The issue is it’s a desert tortoise so it’ll die of dehydration if it gets scared. So real world example of the ‘get scared, die’
There are also pigs with teeth that will grow into their own head and kill them, but they reproduce before it happens. Also the atlas moth literally does not have a mouth after it emerges from its cocoon and only serves to reproduce.
I wonder if the barking toad's explosion also scatters its eggs over a kilometer radius - if they did, and were immune to the poison, it would make a pretty efficient method of "clearing an area" for the toad's offspring to inhabit unmolested
The krakens are probably my favorite they look so dope but I’d love to see a full depiction of both no waves or asteroids just like a full drawing of what they fully looked like, y’all feel me. Also if they tyranids got a hold of the void one I’d honestly laugh cuz who wouldn’t at that thought, not out of stupidity but genuine awe
Mate, obviously I'm the deadliest animal in 40k, sheesh.
Knarlocs being able to chew through ceramite and necrodermis consistently should put it around the level of a catachan devil, but nowhere near the inhabitants of the oceans of Catachan.
what lies in the oceans of Catachan? monka
shit, i didn't even really think about catachan having an ocean
I'm not suprise if they have an ocean full of gojira-like kaijus.
It’s worth noting that the Catachan Devil CAN survive a Barking Toad explosion. Granted, in the particular case that I read, the Toad was a juvenile.
Attempt number 16:
What if the Primarchs where found in the order of their creation. So the Lion was first and Horus was nearly last. I think that could change quite a bit, don't you think?

You have my vote brother
ngl the Crotalid sounds like somthing the old ones have devolved into. From high civilization to warp-capable crocadile, I find that pretty funny.
And we are not mentioning the MUCH, MUCH, MUCH larger salamanders that literally live in the planet's core that are so large their scales are mistaken for cavern walls. (Old Earth, before they leave Nocturne)
*TTS Vulkan voice*:
“I WOOD LIKE TO PET DIS CREECHA*”
A video on Guilliman’s personal evolution from pre-heresy to now would be great. He comes across as a real jerk in The First Heretic, and I’m wondering what led to his character shift. You could do the same thing for The Lion and other primarchs, too!
Then there's the deadliest species to ever exist, that once lived on Terra. The drop bear
That is heresy you speak, I would not let the emperor hear you think that.
Do a video on the chief librarian from each legion.
Who would win: a machine that has been made for war, with weapons that can glass a fucking hive city, with souls have different classes one of them having a fucking church VS a fucking squig
Didn’t know anything about Warhammer until I started watching your videos, they’re awesome!
2:50 the whole teeth growing part isn't that uncommon irl but I'm only aware of this happening in mammals mostly rodents, so I guess some space animal could have a thing like this
2:50 there's literally a wild boar that suffers from this exact problem in real life, except its where their tusks curl around and press into their skull. Idk if its common for their tusks to do that since they're always breaking off in fights and don't always push through the skull, but it has happened and its hilariously stupid how bad evolution got on that one
A yes.. crocodiles that teleport.
Wait, they couldn’t before?
7:53 the fact you say raid boss then show the kraken instantly makes me think of terramorphous from bl2
The catachan devils are also great for Necron internecine meme conflicts
It seems like when GW went to the drawing board to fill the lore with animals, they looked at Earth and what our animals would look like if they were bombarded with ani-matter and radiation.
The great beasts are why i love zahariel. He killed a beast as a human child (although yes with some psykic powers) which only the lion has previously killed, convinced the watchers he would fight against chaos wherever he saw it, he stood in the presence of the emperor and saved his life, and so many other cool stuff
Right, the most dangerous 40k animal is Lavos from ChronoTrigger lol. Good video tho. I kinda liked the “Hydras” from the book “Brothers of the Snake”. Their basically type of “witch trial” for if someone is chaos corrupted. Eaten/not corrupted, survive and then killed by heavy flamers
I like this video because Majorkill’s hair is back to normal and less scary 🫣
You know you fucked up and stayed up way too late as an American when you see the Majorkill drop before you've seen sleep.
Hey Majorkill. Have you played Rogue Trader? If so what are your thoughts? I have about 10 hours invested into it and am enjoying how well the writing is. It’s like a novel.
He’s streamed it previously
Majorkills slowing turning his room into a news station for warhammer, news anchor Majorkill :-)
"Let's pray the Tyranids never get a hold of one." You just know GW would have that happen in a story at some point. Actually Void Kraken vs. World Engine would be awesome.
@te.legram__majorkillYT thanks!
That's a hectic match up lmao
So cool thing about this video is it essentially is the reason I started my own renegade Salamander succesor chapter. I wanted a rag tag force of basically monster hunters that were inspired by the many deadily fauna of 40k but also my love and long time passion of the Monster Hunter video game series
More vids on planets, and maybe a few vids on the lesser known units from the astra militara??
in one of the rouge trader books it talks about how void krakens reproduce. They fling a peice of themselves at a planet for it to grow off of the planet. Could be how fenris got the father of krakens.
That was actually the funniest sponsor transition bit i've seen in a while well done. Hey, how do you spell the name of that thing from Molech, mate? I'm tryna google it but i can't find anything
Love your videos. Please go more in depth about the High lord rebeling against G-man.
Superb video as always @majorkill.
Could you make a video dedicated to the Navigators, the major houses, their politics, relation to the overall Imperium and factions, etc
Solid ass content. Love the crazy fauna in 40k!
Do a vid on the prominent librarians/sorcerers from chapters/legions that opposed magnus at his trial
Imagine some unlucky dude picking up a toad only to have it explode and blast the shit of of him his friends family and everything in his whole town
About the toad: I think it would actually be a very viable evolutionary path, similar to being poisonous. The only predators that get to survive are those who learn to leave you tf alone. But yes, that method of "revenge" is extreme and means the toads would also evolve to be solitary.
There's also the fact that it could destroy the ecosystem.
Not necessarily. By assuring a mutual destruction of the predator you prevent harm befalling your species. In short, if one explosive toad takes out a tiger, the other 99 explosive toads may live happily. Long before 99 tigers show up, they will learn to not fuck with the toads.
A video of the top ten community made wholesome moments would be great
"BOOP DE SNOOT!"
No booping!
Majorkill you should do a video about all the warhammer stuff in the background at the start of each video
so legit love listening to your videos in the background while i game looked back after i heard u say u moved and realized u look tired my man u getting enough sleep?
It would be cool to run a ttrpg adventure centered around a Void Kraken's seed starting to wreak havoc on an impregnated world.
Blessed be Majorkill, may he labor forever in the warm light of the algorithm
All of these critters are just the warm up for travel to Australia…
Ah perfect. My two interests, animals and Warhammer, finally combined in one Video
I'm now back to asking what if clonegrim returned to the setting? How'd the imperium and primarchs react?
I was hoping for archeosaurs to make the list. Our bottom tier on the list can go toe to toe with a knight, archeosaurs can hang against smaller titans 1v1.
Feel like you could fill the honorable mentions spot with everything from catachan and fenris hell never I'll forget the time a space wolf primaris marine tried the test of morkai, to prove its not what the space wolves make it out to be, and encountered a blackmane thunderwolf. He was shocked that it was as big as him and completely overpowered him easily hell even throwing haymakers at its skull didn't bother it. He only survived due to pure luck really and it still almost tore his throat out. Probably wondered how aspirants of the first born did it witout the rest of the geneseed implanted.
top work sven....merry xmas
6:11 greatly appreciated reference
catachan is full of shit that are basically on the level of feral tyranids
its pretty fucking hilarious how insanely brutal the planet is yet somehow imperial forces still manage to survive there
its insane they arent using it as an astartes chapter recruiting and training world
Love the video 🤘
One of my fan made guardsmen regiments comes from a death world that had a chaos corrupted virus bomb dropped on it turning the entire place into Nurgles playground except the people on the world decided screw Nurgle and by some miracle managed to survive, and eventually thrive. In essence they have become immune to the very concept of illness, poison, and disease meaning every poison and disease that has and will ever exist they are immune to. Even Nurgle's rot doesn't faze them, and for that very reason they are often sent to battle the forces of Nurgle. This disease immunity comes with an additional benefit because they are so immune to disease their bodies only rot when on their home world meaning that guardsman who just got cut in half can be sown back together and resurrected good as new.
Holy shit finally major covering animals in 40K FUCK YES
Video idea: Does Santa Claus exist in Warhammer?
I think it’s important to understand that evolution is not always an improvement, or even an adaptation. It’s more random if anything, throw in chaotic corruption and you probably get some tzeentch-tier stupidly developed animals.

Hey Majorkill, did you take down your Master Chief vs Astartes video? I cant find it and would very much like to watch it.
It has several times been pointed out, that the kraken of Fenris (confirmed) as well as (probably) the Catachan devil are in fact Tyranid in nature.
Also you missed the largest salamanders of Nocturn, which never wake up (luckily) and have grown to such a scale, that a thunderhawk gunship is smaller than their pupil. The lie sleeping at the core of the world. (Source: Old Earth, from the Horus Heresy Novel Series)
Yo, majorkill, congrats on getting on the tacticus ads!
You know, I actually wonder if Votann (rock and stone and all, you know?) have some sort of mining megatech that can actually damage void krakens.
Anti ship weapons
Kinda shocked you didn't mention the Warp jumping spiders from the planet Murder right after the warp croc
Didn’t realize they could warp jump, but yeah, surprised Murder wasn’t mentioned.
There was a great story in the Guard 9e Codex about Catachan. Basically Khorne invades Australia and gets wrecked.
Bro….love your content! Merry Xmas and looking forward to seeing more in the new year.
Imagine being a demon just chilling in the warp and without prior warning a fucking crocodile warps in, death-rolls your entire leg off, and then warps out just as quickly. Life sucks in 40k.
The green ones in power armor that likes hugs... greatest line ever.
Everything on this list either to warp corrupted or needlessly big for the tyranids to care, but katchin looks tasty.
Majorkill: do not boop the snoot
Me: *sad salamander noises* but it would be but a single boop on its noggin 🥺
To solve the first one a warp traveler must play the didgeridoo to calm the crocodiles.
Also day 372 of requesting a Commissar Yarrick Major Mini pls and thank you.
I love how half of 40k lore sounds like it was written by an 11 year old. "DIS IS LIKE A T-REX BUT 500 FEET TALL AND UHH DID ONE IS A SQUID WITH TENTACLES ALL THE WAY AROUND THE PLANET AND DIS ONE UHHH"
ah, the catachan barking toad. the near death of Vulkan from TTS, maybe eventually he'll be able to boop the snoot
As for the barking toad, they’re actually several species of frog. They have developed poisonous skin, so that if they ever are eaten the animal eating it will die. It teaches the predators, Do not eat this animal, or you will die and as a result nothing try’s to eat them. So there is some logic why the barking toad would actually evolve the way it is.
lol sure, if evolution worked at all like that
@@patrickdwyer320there’s literally poisonous frogs that thrive because of this lol
@@Cthulhuwarlordya but does them releasing poison kill them in the process? No, and it's stupid to argue that evolution would create a creature who's defense mechanism (you know the thing they use to help keep them alive) is to blow themselves up.
@@patrickdwyer320mate it’s literally called the poison dart frog it’s a real world frog that looks great.
@@patrickdwyer320Yes, it does in fact work that way……..
If majorkill wanted he could have made all these animals from catachan
Do a video on Ufthak Blackhawk since he’s getting a model soon, or just more orkey content of some kind
Quick question about that void kraken.
Is it made of flesh or rock because major said it feeds off of minerals not bio mass, and if it was just a giant rock creature it would be a giant counter to them b good for our them
You forgot the vampiric Asskraken of the Onlyphans system that specifically targets the Simpwhale Chapter.
(If it’s ever happened) I’d love a video about different instances of chaos or the tyranids getting ahold of some of the more deadly animals and 40k and the things that happened because of it
I really love how you are able to make fun of yourself while still being very informative. Well done sir.
