  • This is a play-through using Pachy in the PS1 game Warpath: Jurassic Park. Read on below for more information...
    Pachy is an unlockable playable character in this game.
    ===== About Pachy =====
    Pachy is a herbivore, and is a 2-legged dinosaur. He is of the Pachycephalosaurus species. That's all I have to say about his design.
    Gameplay-wise... his speed is fast, but his power is somewhat low and his hit range seems a bit short. Being a "smaller" dinosaur he has the advantage of being a small target. His fast speed actually does make up for his low power.
    ===== About Warpath: Jurassic Park =====
    This is an impressive, well-built game for the PS1. The graphics are very good for the PS1 standards... I imagine this must have looked quite amazing for it's time. The dinosaur movement/strike animations are pretty spot-on for how real dinosaurs were supposed to "behave" and "act".
    The gameplay itself is good as well, and is exactly what you would expect a dinosaur character to control and play like in a fighting game. As fighting game players we are all so used to controlling human being characters that suddenly being made to control a dinosaur may be a bit strange at first. Extras to the gameplay include being able to "eat" the small human being or mini-dinosaur characters to regain life.
    One minor annoyance of this game is how easy it is to have your character not facing the opponent directly in-line and how much time it takes to "reset" back to direct facing... due to the type of throws, some moves and side steps in the game, it is common to have your character end up facing the wrong angle, which obviously means that your moves will miss the opponent, leaving you completely vulnerable as you recover. The worst thing about this is that sometimes you really cannot tell whether you're in-line or not. The CPU opponents (who of course, ALWAYS manages to face you correctly no matter what) exploits this to the max, which WILL annoy you.
    The music is your typical "tense-horror-movie" orchestral type soundtrack, which suits this game perfectly.

    I do miss learning dinosaur names. This particular dino was a favourite of mine as a kid. The Jurassic Park games have been notorious for being difficult. The Lost Workd on PS1 was particularly challenging but a lot of 'harsh' brutal entertainment. I wonder if hou'll ever encounter that construction equipment fighting game from Japan.
