I am tired of the narrative that Kawhi was the reason the freak struggled against them in the playoffs. Kawhi was great, but it was a team effort fortified by pascal who primarily defended him and Marc gasol former DPOY who met him at the rim. That team was defensively stacked.. it wasn’t just Kawhi. When was the last time regular season MVP was also named best player in the world? Probably when Lebron WAS MVP several years ago in his prime and there was no discussion. After that he was still named best even not being regular season MVP because of his playoff success. But that was couple years ago (missed playoffs last year).
By your logic, if we decide the best player right now, should we say 3 best players right now are Giannis, Harden and Luka (MVP frontrunners)? Probably not, right? Because playoff success matters, Kawhi is clearly the reigning finals MVP right now and unless he plays terrible in regular season (not gonna happen) you have to wait till post season to see who comes out on top. Because that's what matters.
