    Although the 8800GTX was an amazing card the 2900XT paved the way for later Terascale cards that went on to win the hearts of many games. Loved the video man.

    • @gietie96
      @gietie96 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, I'll see what I can do :) The 2.5GB 570 was indeed quite an odball (just like the 3GB 580), but back in 2011 I felt the standard 1.28GB wasn't going to cut especially with the 6950/70 already having 2GB. I like to think it was an allright decision considering I haven't yet replaced them and games are definitely using more than 1.28GB now.

    • @F2FTech
      @F2FTech  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Dude please... DirectX12 hardware support doesn't exist even in Pascal, despite Maxwell being advertised as 12.1 compatible. We all know its software emulation only. Adding "DX12 support" to GTX570? XD Might as well add it to Geforce 2 also! XD
      Nvidia are the kings of false advertising.

    yea those old 8800 GTX's ran damn hot, ik with mine i repasted it some years later and even before that was always running it at 100% fan, yeah it was a bit loud, but it stopped being a damn space heater with max fan.
    recently repasted my old BFG 8800 GTX with thermal grizzy kryonaut, and she rarely goes above 60-65c now! crazy what temp reduction you can get with better pastes.

  • @MicroMacroUniverse

    Loved this video, i love comparing old cards in newer engines. I remember Ati "fanboys" at the time crying and saying "it gets better with newer drivers" or "newer games will take advantage of the huge-mega-super shader core of 2900 XT" ah lol. It's 2017 and still the "old style" 8800 is superior. Loved both cards. Thanks for the good work, i would LOVE a video were you compare these cards with other newer and heavier games or tech demos!!!i know DX11 it's a problem here, but there are some very good tech demos that are new and run in dx 10 cards. Sorry for bad english. Thanks and bye!!!

    Thank you for this interesting video! Do you think you could add a current generation entry level card like the Geforce GT 1030 or the Radeon RX 550 to the graphs? Also, concerning the power draw figure: the X axis clearly didn't start at zero, that means the wattage difference looks exaggerated huge. Please don't do this. :)

    • @F2FTech
      @F2FTech  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +André Bachmann Yeah it’ll be the first to tell you I suck at Excel. I’ll look into it for the next video, as that certainly wasn’t my intention. Unfortunately, I don’t own either of those cards, but I plan on doing aDX9/10 graphs along with DX11 and up. I’ll probably at some point test newer cards with older games, but the bottleneck can be real with certain games.

    Hey I have to call bullshit on of these benchmarks. The 8800GTX could not run DX10 on Crysis or other titles when you enabled DX10. When you would try and run DX10 on the 8800GTX you would get a black screen. I had 3 8800 GTXs and I know this for a fact because I bought the 8800 GTX so I could run DX10 and I was pissed because Nvidia had falsely advertised support for DX10 on the 8000 series. The first Nvidia cards that did actually support DX10 were the GTX 200 Series.

    • @F2FTech
      @F2FTech  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is the first DX10 GPU ever released. You were probably running Windows XP, hence why DX10 wasn’t working. Vista and up is required for DX10 to work. I stand by my work.

    Never liked Nvidia back then they took to much power.
    drivers were a bit buggy in some new just out games.
    ATI had it together.
    Now only time I heard bad things about and switch from NVidia to ATI was if you didn't do a fresh install of windows and just switched the cards.. NVidia 's drivers would screw up any change unless you went to 3Dfx or MatroxG400Max then everything was fine.
    I had a Gforce 2 32meg Creative labs and that card had insane power ...
    But Matrox had was better graphics by far.
    I actually just used NVidia drivers and put the Matrox Back in for insane smooth gaming with Matrox's incredible graphics and quality. I just used 3DFX glide or Open GL from Nvidia when gaming with the MatroxG400Max.
    a lot of people didn't know this trick which was simple.
    Matrox's D3D drivers were good visuals but frames were terrible in some games not all But Quake and a few others.. So I jut installed open GL or Glide drivers from other companies and WOW doubles MatroxG400Max gaming power by far with all the eye candy. Sad nobody just said back then I think Matrox would have done way better in sales.

    • @F2FTech
      @F2FTech  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      EVIL QTip Never had much experience with Matrox it Voodoo cards. My friends had them, but seems we always had NVIDIA or ATI cards. Sucks that I missed out.

    • @evilqtip7098
      @evilqtip7098 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, I was buying and buying everything because my friend owned the store so if I wanted to change anything I could easily.
      MatroxG400Max had such great quality back then and details from their Bump Mapping.
      The Voodoo2 cards way before I used those with the Matrox Mystix 4 meg card. Loved that mix.
      Vodoo5 was outstanding graphics for Colors in Quake arena and TombRaider just outstanding.
      But best Bump Mapping card at the time using other drivers than Matrox's d3D which was weak frame wise But open GL and glide drivers I used made MatroxG400Max fly and looks were uncompaired by any company Like Halflife 2 and Quake arena
      and TombRaider and many others.. Back then.
      Regret upgrading and selling my mobo
      But I went ATI afterwards they pleased me highly.

    Interesting. If I recall right the 2900 XT was launched at $399, while the 8800 GTX was $649 to $699 right? The 2900 XT was basically AMD's small chip, mid-range in size, competing against NV's huge chip and it did lose overall, slower by ~25%. But perf/$ it was decent.

      Yak Yeah the price did vary, but it was $599-$649. The 2900 XT was one the biggest chips ATI ever produced. The card had some major design issues, but most were fixed when they released the 3870. It was pretty much the same performance with half the die size. ATI/AMD pretty took the small chip approach for quite some time after that. Like you said, at its price point the 2900 XT still performed well and I really like the history that surrounds it.

      +Pillokun The good old MX cards. I had plenty of them because I was young and had no money. None of them performed very well. My 9500 Pro was the first GPU I was proud to own. Had an 8500 before that and it crapped out right after I sold it to a friend.
