Glad I came across your channel. I’m land locked now and haven’t salt water fished in years. This video reminded me when my dad and I would go fishing in 78 and 79 around St Luis pass at the bridge on the Surfside side catching specs. Thanks , enjoyed watching. Did subscribe.
Subscribed because you are extremely good at making videos and you handle fish properly. Not squeezing the trout and rubbing off their slime coats. Getting fish back in the water super quick and properly. I’d kill to have your boat and equipment. Great work Ross! Tight lines!
great video... just wanted to thank you. my son and I had an awesome fishing trip at south padre island, tx. because of your videos and information, we caught trout all week. i have never caught that many trout. i do appreciate you sharing your wealth of information. videos... my son is hooked for life now.. FISH ON...>--------/
That trout was a beast. I’ve lost several large trout as well in that area. I lost a behemoth just north of that right across the Reynolds plant. Right across the plant in the cove. I no longer have a boat so I’ve decided to get a yak. I can still access some great spots with it. Also allows me to fish out here where I live in Houston. I grew up fishing in Mustang and Port Aransas area. I no longer fish like I used to so I watch your videos to get my fix. Lol. Tight lines Brother.
Looks like the Reds & Trout approve of the new popping cork! Oh... don't feel bad.... my mind wanders a lot too. Nice trout at the end!! Thanks for sharing.
I wish I had a boat. I work right next to where you are fishing. And I’ve always told my friends “now that’s where the fish are at!!” Lol. Good catch my friend
Hello Mr. RedfishRoss I would like to say thank you for your both fishing videos im a big fan keep up the good work and love the awesome work on catching fish.
Those gator trout are a whole different animal. They always go nuts right at the boat/kayak/shoreline and make you hold your breath hoping they don't come off.
Had a friend stopped by the other and he saw that same exact setup on one of my rods and asked me what it was and I said it's a "RFR rig". He goes "RFR gig"? I said Red Fish Ross... get with the program dude! I sure like to give it a good go but the winds down here in the Tampa area are brutal right now but sooner or later I'm going to get on the water. Thanks for your great videos .
Well we didn't catch a lot. But I did get my PB trout this morning on a TTF killer flats minnow xl in the East Beast color. 22 inches. Not a huge trout but not bad. The wind was 20-30mph. We were drifting pretty fast even with a sock.
That was a nice trout I used to lose some years ago when I used to fish in the coast and someone told me that when you get close to a boat or the bank always keep your rods facing down and do not let the fish come out of the water if he comes out of the water he will shake his head and get that hook right out and it looks like that's what happened there, good luck keep on fishing...
Excellent video. I've been fishing popping corks, Cajun Thunder-types and maulers for 40 years and still picked up a good tip or two from ya'. Like the multi-twitch pause multi-twitch pause that works. I need to vary my cadence and include yours. Also, I know your anguish at losing that really large trout, have had it happen too often on their jumps, and I remember those as much if not more than large fish landed. And so often, it seems they'll shadow a cork-twitched lure all the way to the boat and often hitting as I lift it out to make the next cast. It ends up surprising both of us, with them often the winner and me saying what you did.
You Sir do a Great Video! None of that crazy studio music in the back ground. Just the sounds of the trip! Thanks for sharing and doing such a good video
Well your video is one of the best Ive seen! Love things just being natural. Never killed a Deer or Caught a Fish with Hard Rock playing in the Back Ground! LOL Once again Great work!
Wow, when you get excited about the size of a fish it must be a really good sized fish. It's too bad he shook off the hook. Thanks for bringing us along.
Bought the Piscifun Torrent also Seems like a good reel Happy so far I knew you'd give a good honest review and when you were fine with it, I figured for $40 I couldn't go wrong

What are the features that make it so attractive to the fish? That way I can find similar features near my neck of the woods? Thanks.
ariel martinez Hey thanks Ariel , this is a good summer time spot because of the good grass and sand bottom and more importantly it's very close to very deep water.
My dad and I love your channel! He is the one who told me about you and I haven't missed a video yet haha. I caught my biggest trout on this lure without the cork last year, it's good to see you killing fish on it! Never comment but just wanted you to know
Not sure if this helps you, it helped me. When any fish jumps at the surface, just as they break the water, point your rod down. I was always told to just stick it in the water. Be it trout, bass, tarpon, or ladyfish. Since I learned that trick as a teen I've never lost a fish to a breaching head shake.
What size jig heads do you usually use under popping corks? Some people say that 1/4 oz heads can be too heavy and cause too fast of a drop after a couple of pops and that 1/8 oz or maybe even 1/16 oz are better. They say it effects the action of the soft plastic or at least the drop rate. It may effect the action of certain soft plastics but I don't know if it will matter with gulp shrimp considering their action is nonexistent. Thanks.
Bob Gill Hey Bob , yes I agree about the 1/4 oz dropping to fast , I use 1/8 oz for everything. Gulps are not as buoyant as soft plastics so you could probably even use a 1/16 oz with them. In my opinion rate of fall is critical for drawing more strikes. Tight Lines !

Just wanted to tell you I like the fact that you released those beautiful trouts. I like to do the same though I sometimes keep my limit but keep fishing after just because their great fighters. P.s. just found those Bomber corks at Walmart. Finally found them at a good price.✌🏻
Thanks will be subbing your channel. I even saw way back when your wife caught that monster trout. I’ll be at a nice fishing lodge on Thanksgiving and the day after. Can’t wait to put those corks to use. Hope you have a great & safe Thanksgiving. GOD BLESS! And keep them fishing vids coming.✌🏻
I do like using a popping cork with a live bait , haven't tried it with a lure although I know a guy who use that technique specifically for Spanish mackerel
I don’t comment much, but I really enjoyed the video. Heading to Edisto SC this summer for some of the same and I’d like another casting rod/reel. Would you recommend the torrent in that price range or would you go with something else? Also, how did the popping cork hold up?
Onetime75 Hey thanks , glad you liked the video. I had a corrosion issue with the pinion gear bearing but if you keep it oiled up good it’s a solid reel at that price. The corks are awesome , really durable.
I love your video RedfishRoss. I'm trying to help my son catch his first Redfish. He has caught plenty of trout but has yet to catch a redfish in Hilton Head. What tides do you like to fish. Maybe we will try that soft plastic instead of DOA and Voodu shrimp
Greg Young Hey Greg , great to hear you are getting your son into fishing. Our tides here in Texas are so minimal I don’t pay any attention to them. I think your son will have better luck with a paddle tail soft plastic than with the shrimp style bait. Tight Lines !
+RedfishRoss thanks for your reply! My last question is, do you get better action from the cork with braid on the reel vs mono? Right now I have mono on the reel with mono leader, due to the area I fish here in Jacksonville with a lot of structure inshore.

Outfield Coach Drills Thanks Coach , I did not in this video , but lately I have been experimenting with some Procure Shrimp scent , can’t say it helps but it certainly doesn’t hurt.
Wow! Was that a trout or a tarpon? Oh well, another time and day. Gives you something to look forward to. Be careful with those flex line corks. I tried a couple of those a while back and after a while the line would rust and break where the clamp is. Lost a nice red that way. How's the new reel doing? Great vid. Thanks for the trip.
Hey Ross, that's an interesting kind of said I have never seen before. Still an amateur and saltwater fishing and probably will be for the rest of my life hahaha. And my question is what kind of lures or is that at the very end of that popping cork, the only thing I noticed was the pumpkin seed and chartreuse colors on it but if you would tell me the brand style and weight of that jig head that would be great information for me to copycat if you don't mind.
Did you change the leader throughout the day ?? I sometimes lose fish because I forget to check if it's bitten from the previous bite , and sometimes when I hook a good one, the line pops 😭😭
Chloe millers Fabulous cheeks The most important thing is to have your bait caster tuned right and secondly with a cork you want to make more of a lob cast. If you try and throw it hard you run into problems.
Ross Best There’s a lot of factors involved , but weather is a big one , cloudy days and a falling barometer with some wind are the best for top water. Water temperature is another , when the water gets cold it’s harder to catch them on top.
Thanks for taking time to explain the tackle you’re using for the day. Helps us beginner anglers.
Thanks for watching J.R.

I use Voodo Shrimp and DOA in Hilton Head....get redfish, flounder, trout and sheephead
could you make a video on removing different kinds of hooks or what to do when the hook is deep especially on the smaller fish.
Just cut the line to get the fish a chance. Trying to remove a gutted hook will most likely kill them.
+RedfishRoss is that a loop knot tied to the jig head?
great video also!!
Derrick Gordon Hey Derrick , yes I always use a loop knot when I’m using a leader because it gives the lure more freedom of movement.
+RedfishRoss thanks for your reply! My last question is, do you get better action from the cork with braid on the reel vs mono? Right now I have mono on the reel with mono leader, due to the area I fish here in Jacksonville with a lot of structure inshore.
Derrick Gordon I prefer mono with these big corks because they catch a lot of air when you cast them and braid backlashes easily.
Thanks and I appreciate your help so much! Happy Holidays to you and your family!!

Mike McDonald Hey thanks for the info , so far so good on the reel . I have never seen a trout that big jump that high ! It was awesome.
RedfishRoss It definitely looked awesome.
Hector Coria Hey Hector , the lure is a Down South Super Model and the jig head is a 1/8 ounce Strike King.
RedfishRoss , gotcha, where did you find to buy that plastic lure at? Was it like Academy or Bass Pro Shop?
Hector Coria Yes I get them at Academy.
RedfishRoss thank you and much appreciated
I noticed you let fish swim pass the Bow and land them behind you? Does this help landing them?
Yes it does , because the bow is higher than the sides. Thanks for watching Joseph.
@@redfishross Thank You for your videos! You are a wonderful fisherman!
Nice rig.
jay love Hey thanks Jay.
That is a nice boat. What kind is it?
David Kalb Jr. Thanks David it’s a14.5 Shoalwater Cat.
Did you change the leader throughout the day ?? I sometimes lose fish because I forget to check if it's bitten from the previous bite , and sometimes when I hook a good one, the line pops 😭😭
Marcos Reyna Hey Marcos , I use fluorocarbon because it's very tuff , but I do check for nicks and if I feel any I change the leader.
love your videos! do you use a power pole or just reposition with the trolling motor often? thanks and tight lines!
Malcolm Lochiel Hey Malcom , I just use the trolling motor.
Wow love this video
David Baker Thanks , glad you liked the video.
Good video. What lure were you using
Chris Vinesett Hey Chris , it was a Plum Chartreuse Down South Super Model.
How are you able to throw a popping cork with a baitcaster?. Two baitcasters i have do nothing but backlash.
Chloe millers Fabulous cheeks The most important thing is to have your bait caster tuned right and secondly with a cork you want to make more of a lob cast. If you try and throw it hard you run into problems.
When going for Reds how do you determine to throw Topwater or bottom?
Ross Best There’s a lot of factors involved , but weather is a big one , cloudy days and a falling barometer with some wind are the best for top water. Water temperature is another , when the water gets cold it’s harder to catch them on top.
I used it’s awesome 👍👍👍👍👍👍niceeeeeee
Should be called "Redfish Boss"
Frontier Specialized Hey thanks for watching !
"That's a good one" x 50, LOL
Nice footage sir ,is that a 3/0 or 4/0 1/8 Jughead ?
Danny Harvey Thanks Danny , I believe it’s a 4/0.
Jesus that was a good trout at the end👍🏻
Valentin Cerda Yea that was a Stud !
How do you like the lews tp1? I'm thinking about getting one. Thanks
Strippin' Drag fishing TV I really like it , especially the grips they use , you can fish it all day and still comfortable in your hand.
Does it hold in Saltwater long term?
How do you cast that popping cork on a baitcaster so easily? No backlashes or anything!
Duc Tran The trick is to not throw it too hard , use an easy lob type cast.
@@redfishross Like a sideways cast? I can't tell from the video. Great content by the way!
Duc Tran Not sideways , just a normal cast but slower and easier.
Mr. Ross what's your take on the Lews TP-1 after using it for a while.
Flats Fishing I like it , it’s super light weight but still has good backbone.
TY👌
Awesome video...
Thanks Freddy !
