    Yes, totally agree you should purge the old and use the new, then never go into the cycle of over buying so that you end up with the same problem again. Use things at its peak, use until its finished, buy new then use the new right away until finish etc etc That's what I've recently been doing, saving a lot of money and feeling good about not having waste.

      100% I am really shifting to wanting to almost start over with just the stuff that’s 2-3 years old but yikes that would be a massive change in my collection & idk if I’m *quite* ready for that!! But I want to try to focus more on newer items and see how that feels 😊

    I say just declutter them. My mentality has changed recently to only keep what I love. I don’t want to force myself to use things just to use them or “make them work”. Interested to see what you’ll be keeping.

    • @RebeccaMorgan

      Totally agree with this shift in mentality!

    I was trying to finish one lip gloss I really didn't care for, when I realised that all the lip stuff I actually really like keeps lying in the drawer, then I threw out that gloss. I felt so much happier and free then. So while trying to use what we already have and not buying so much is important, I think it is equally as important to let ourselves throw out stuff that is old and doesnt spark joy anymore :)

    • @RebeccaMorgan
      @RebeccaMorgan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is so great, I definitely know that feeling. Good for you for getting rid of the gloss that wasn’t working for you so you could actually enjoy things you love so much more!!

    I think fenty palette can be a good nail polish palette.It'll probably go very fast that way and if you didnt like them as nail colors you can let it go.

    See if you can depot your favorite good performing shades from the palettes and just throw the others away. So you can still use and pan the ones you love, and combine them with the new products.
    Edit: see now that someone already suggested this🤣

    I do think you can declutter a few of the older products, but with the items you decide to keep, you can try to use old and new in conjunction! I find layering shimmers or certain mattes helps spark inspiration for unique color stories.
    But I support you in any direction you chose!

    I tend to purge older items. By using the older products, you can’t use your favorite products. I only have 25 palettes (20 large& 5 mini) and four singles. That isn’t that many in the beauty space. However, there are only 52 weeks in a year. I can only wear each palette two weeks out of the year. Two weeks….. Do I want to have this beautiful palette and only wear it for two weeks? I need to purge some palettes. I want to wear my makeup for more than two weeks next year.

    I think with the fenty palette if you have any shades that you still love maybe depot them into a magnetic palette but all the other shades is probably better to declutter tahn to waste your time with eyeshadows that are not that good instead of the rest of your collection . I think that if you enjoyed playing with the modern renaissance palette maybe just give it a bit more attention this month and see if there are any shades that you love that you don't have in your collection ! If you have all the shades in other palettes that you prefer just declutter it :) everything else seems like it's time to leave your collection ! You've been doing such a great job with using up so many of your products! If you don't like these give yourself the change to pass them on and focus on products you love 😊

      I have this exact Fenty palette and I’ve completely gutted it. The shades sit in a plastic tray you can pry out and then the pans from the tray come out fairly easily with standard depotting techniques. There’s a bit of glue in the bottom but the pans are magnetic. Good luck if you decide to depot!

    I really like this concept and just bringing things you're iffy about and using them to see what works and what doesn't. I like using my liquid lipsticks as a lip tint. I'll put some onto the center of my lips and then blend it out with a finger or q-tip. The nice thing about liquid lipsticks is that they last a long time. :) So that's my little hack. Thanks for another relaxing video

    The unfortunate reality of overbuying makeup is that if you ever want to get back to a point where everything is new and in it's prime, you literally can not buy anything for a long while. I did not purchase makeup for almost two years to help work through most of my collection. Now I am at a point where some categories are in check but there are still loads I refuse to purchase for until my current stock is finished or expires. I haven't brought an eyeshadow into my collection since 2019...

    • @RebeccaMorgan
      @RebeccaMorgan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are so right! Any amount of new coming in will set back completing older items, so it is a cycle. Way to go not purchasing any palettes since 2019 and successfully doing a 2 year no buy, that is impressive!!

    I declutter everything really old (4/5+ years) If I had all that time to use it and haven’t I don’t love it or need it. I suppose if I loved something that was old and still worked wonderfully I might but I haven’t come across this scenario yet!

    I would definitely declutter the brow pen, it looks like it’s completely useless. I wouldn’t risk using the highlighter if the scent has changed. On the other hand, I really like how the flower beauty blush looks on you! It really complements your skin and hair tone in my opinion ☺️

    I think it can be hard to let things go because as you mentioned in a different video you're still stuck with what's now trash and having to dispose of it. Of course you can just toss it but to do the right thing and find the proper way to recycle it takes time and effort. As some others have said, I would hold on the ABH palette a little longer. Not that you want to but you could probably finish a few shades in there since it's pretty well loved. As for the foundation, have you tried mixing it with any of your skin tints? It'll sheer the coverage and help you use it up.

  • @joorourke8134

    I'm thinking about getting rid of maybe 400 eyeshadow palettes (out of over 500), and maybe 50 of each blushes, highlighters, and bronzers. I think I could get down to 3 face palettes if I was being honest with myself. Maybe keep 5 lipsticks because that's all I seem to use, and there are only maybe 10 foundations that I gravitate toward that are also sorta new. I only use 2 concealers out of the overstuffed drawer I have of them. It all *gestures vaguely* feels overwhelming and makes me not want to use any of it now except for the few things I have in my bathroom. At some point, having a big collection stopped being really fun to play with, and it started to feel like an anchor. It's just something I've been thinking about, nothing set in stone.

    • @RebeccaMorgan
      @RebeccaMorgan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it feels overwhelming I totally understand the desire to basically start over! Makeup is supposed to be fun so do whatever it is that helps you feel happiest with your own collection!

    I respect whatever decision you make for all of these products, but please just trash that mascara today. It’s not worth your time to deal with a flaky mess after you’ve already spent a lot of time trying to make it work.

  • @historianlaura

    If something has changed in texture, smell, performance that is a big game changer for me they are instant declutter. Things that are a big struggle to use - looking at you eye brow pen. Again it isn’t your only one life is short say bye bye. The only item of all them I would keep would be the ABH modern renaissance. I would keep it but next year use it as a along side focusing on other newer palettes then part ways (unless it changes before your deadline)
    Your mind set has changed so much. You’re actively bringing less in - even so we all buy products that just don’t for us from time to time. You’re still curating your collection and you should not feel bad about parting with items at this point.

    The only products I can’t just throw in the trash when they are old are barely used eyeshadow palettes. Once their quality is gone though it’s in the bin. ****But on an important note, please don’t use old cream blushes under your eyes. If for no other reason because it may cause milla to pop up. Thanks for such a fun video.

    • @RebeccaMorgan
      @RebeccaMorgan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s what I’ve been thinking about for next years project pan. There are a lot of older products I can’t seem to part with so good to find that compromise 😊

  • @freckledklutz

    I tried to pan my modern ren last year and I got to 10/14 and very close to all of them but I got eye irritation with a couple shades and called it done. So be wary of that as mine was a similar age. And I would purge these especially if you have set it aside and don't miss it it isn't worth it to feel guilty over products that are super old and are changing in formula. I am all for a good purge! My too faced concealer come the end of December is going - I can't get the stopper out and its the last 1/5 maybe so I am going to consider it good due to age and how hard I have worked on it. I don't think I have any super old palettes anymore but this year a lot of old items got finished and it felt so good!

    • @RebeccaMorgan
      @RebeccaMorgan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh no eye irritation at any point is not worth it, good idea to get rid of it! I haven’t noticed anything like that with mine but I don’t really want to risk continuing to use it with the thought in the back of my mind. It is going to feel so good to say goodbye to that Too Faced concealer I bet!!

    For especially eye and lip products, you may also want to consider the bacterial growth that would occur in the span of 5-7 years. I think it's worth decluttering those products in a finite timeframe instead of trying to finish all the product.

    • @RebeccaMorgan
      @RebeccaMorgan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @mariahmoo

    I think that unless you have someone to give them to or the performance is really suffering, if it's not otherwise a space issue then keep them. Even if you use each thing only a handful of times more before it goes bad, at least you are not throwing away makeup that you can still use and enjoy even if just a little bit. Part of what I really enjoy about your approach is not just continually decluttering and buying new, but really trying to get the most use out of the things you've brought into your life before letting them go into the trash.

    I think you should declutter all of it and focus on the newer things that you love. Otherwise your new things will get old while you’re using expired products that you don’t like or doesn’t perform.

  • @jilliancampbell6742
    @jilliancampbell6742 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I’m in the boat of declutter the OLD. those eyeshadow palettes are probably not safe to use anymore given their age, but especially if you notice a change in performance, texture, color, etc. and the one that smells weird… get rid of it.
    I was surprised you don’t like the brow pen! The footage makes it look like it gives such a natural fill!!! It looks on camera like it’s a good match, and looks really natural.
    Liquid blush - get rid of it. By the time it’s a season you’d want to wear it again, it’ll be that much older. And if it’s already the oldest illiquid blush you have… it’s probably expired.

      It is very disappointing 😭 I tried the BFF mascara formula when it first launched and had them open for over a year (I know, let’s not talk about that) before they got dry like this!

  • @snehamishra2702
    @snehamishra2702 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think you should keep the fenty palette for your nail polishes. Throughout the year, I saw it performed really well on your nails. Some shades that are performing good, you should depot them along with the shades you want to keep as a nail polish topper (I don't think every shade performs good as a nail polish topper? hence depotting the ones your like)
    Also about the Modern Renaissance palette, i think you should keep if it performs really well because it is a beautiful colour story imo.
    Mix thar flower beauty blush bomb with other liquid blushes, maybe brown and look how beautiful it performs, i do the same thing🐒for the rest of everything, it's about to purge them out of your collection.

  • @cassf2328

    With the nyx foundation,if you have to force yourself to use it, I believe you can give yourself a break and concede it was a bad purchase and purge it. If you don't like it and it doesn't do it for you, why insist. Spend the time using samples, testers and find the best next thing to add to your collection.

    You put a lot of effort into thoughtful consumption. All of these products are either old or were instant duds! If someone broke into your house and someone stole them all would you pay a ransom to get any of them back? Even if that random was $5?

    • @RebeccaMorgan
      @RebeccaMorgan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s a good scenario to think of! Definitely wouldn’t be looking to bring back any of these products tbh!

      It does tend to look good on camera and especially right after application. So it’s nice to wear for shorter days. I am so torn because I really don’t enjoy it after a few hours wear but you are right 😊 it’s definitely not a bad product, just not a perfect for me product haha
