🙇🏻♀️A little T/N: I just realized rewatching the video that I may have made a mistake, twice! I think I completely misunderstood when the host Washizaki san used the word 落ちる“ochiru” (in this video he uses it at 2:58 and 5:05), given the context of Yuuma’s failed jokes I used the most common translation “to fail” but then I heard him using it all throughout the events, and found out that there’s another meaning used only in the entertainment industry, where 落ち “ochi” as a noun indicates when they close a skit with a joke that makes the audience laugh, so it’s kind of the opposite, it’s actually closing a joke successfully, while for failing they use the verb “suberu”. So I believe my translation still gives the idea in that specific context (like, at 5:05 Washizaki san says “did we close this successfully? Not sure about it” while I wrote “was this a total failure? Not sure about it”, both give the idea of what he meant) but literally is not really correct. Just wanted to make this clear in case some of you use these videos to practice Japanese listening skills 😌 if you’re here for a laugh you won’t notice 😆 If there’s someone who can confirm this, or if you have anything to add, feel free to do it. I didn't know about the alternative meaning, so despite understanding it, I just thought the same as failing. Which I thought was strange because the jokes weren't failing. I didn't use the subs, I just listen instead. But reading this comment made me go back and read the subs.
@@THETRIVIALTHINGS I think it’s completely normal, when I watch something raw (or even when I read a book in another language) I always think I more or less understood everything, but if I stop and analyze I realize there are so many little things I’ve missed! That’s what I love the most about translating, and at the same time the scariest part of it…particularly with Japanese, which also has a lot of cultural nuances…but I’m a masochist and enjoy it overall 🤣
