The way this show is shameless about cutting costs I honestly have to respect it. One episode is mostly just camera sliding across literal manga panels.
Kare Kano never had budget issues. It's got schedule issues due to the artistic divergences between Anno and the manga author that made him quit the Project (but nowadays there are clues that he may have never left completely). That made the animation schedule mess up too. BUT! As for Evangelion, this became sort of a stereotype: some of the weird directing choices in the last cour are clearly artistic, and even many actual evident production holes were covered using unhortodox creative solutions (like the paper cutouts sequences or the live action cuts -honestly if you lack so much budget you cut the episode, you don't normally put live action clips, let's be real-. Heck, the second last episode is fully animated and well directed although off-topic. The truth imho is that KareKano doesn't go from an amazing show to a terrible trainwreck, it goes from an amazing show to a slightly less amazing show. I really liked your video and your opinion is valid but part of the reasoning is based on what are kind of legends (although easily reasonably believable ones, seeing how GAINAX always had messy productions xD). And it's not like I tell you this as "raaargh I'm a rabid fan how you dare you miscreant!!!") I watched the show some times, last one years ago, and I shared 99% of your points. Then I rewatched it like 1 month ago and ... I honestly had to reconsider or at least rethink many beliefs I had
Kare Kano: A tale where a girl and a boy fall in love with each other, but also they heal each other's trauma and shortcomings. The girl does more in this part. SPOILER(It can be found in Wiki): Before they get married because of a shock pregnancy from Yukino, Arima finally resolves his parental issues with his own biological parents. Sadly the anime ended SUPER ABRUPTLY, because the director didn't want to do it anymore.
Those damn popsicle sticks from episode 19. but actually, after ep 19, Anno and the mangaka had a falling out (over the Comedy I think), and Anno left. The director that took over for episode 19 till the end seems to be the reason for the lack of quality (funding probably got cut after Anno left). The Director later did FLCL. But I liked this show regardless and watched it dubbed. could you review Eureka Seven?
The special animation in some of the later episodes aside. i was surprised to say this was a enjoyable show for the most part. i was extremely disappointed with the ending (and so was the author) apparently in the manga it was more focused on romance. while the anime has alot of comedy in it. so the author was upset they butchered his vision of the show. Thanks for talking about this! - another series had memory issue with romance *Isshuukan Friends* another i hope more people to talk about is The Daughter of 20 Faces it also has a older art style but a interesting start. personally at a certain point it went downhill. maybe not necessarily bad. just not what i wanted.
I never got why do some people think the manga focused more on the romance while the anime focused on the comedy while in reality they're basically the same ! Anno just exaggerated the comedy and some of the dialogues to fit with his direction style but otherwise they're probably the same
