This is by far the most outstanding of the fantasy and fugue. No other is so powerful and dynamic and yet so transparent. It´s the counterpart to Pogorelich´s English Suites wich is also unique. Thank´s a lot for sharing.

it's too fast. You can't hear the tremolo's.

@@TellerMicha For me it's enough tremolo, but this my subjective opinion. it's always a question of taste.

This is a revelation for me. I’ve heard this piece many times played by other great pianist. This is a very passionate rendition with a sense of journey the listener goes through. I’ll be return to this many times. Thanks !

Alexis Weissengerg and Grigory Sokolov are arguably the greatest pianists ever. Truly unique amongst the many gifted pianists, past and present, both of them.

He is the only pianist who knows how to play Bach's harpsichord works on the piano. Everything, everything he interprets, he does like nobody else. He said that Bach was his favorite composer and the most difficult to interpret. He was right. But he understood perfectly.

Thanks for the upload! Amazing interpretation with a great structural integrity and strong musical image. I feel like it was a bit inspired by Landowska, but anyway Weissenberg remains very unique. The way that he plays the subject of the fugue - I don't get that feeling from any other pianist. So simple, elegant and touching.

The fugue is somewhat more driven than on his LP of roughly the same time, recorded for Angel. I believe the edition is by Emil von Sauer, and is available from Kalmus. While there can never be a definitive performance of this or any piece of truly great music, Weisenberg's dæmonic energy, technical prowess, intellectual integrity, and passionate heart in this piece have always set the high water mark for me.

Weissenberg's Bach piano transcriptions is one of my favorite discs of all time. His interpretations and execution are unmatched. Bach is serious music - no romance here - it doesn't belong. Yet his playing is absolutely beautiful to listen to. For Bach on the piano, there is only him, and Glen Gould.

I don't know if anyone mentioned yet or not:
But have you noticed that Weissenberg's interpretation of Bach has its own specific signature? It is so unique.
It's sounds in a romantic way, the way that Horowitz would perform it, but yet it's not Horowitz; it's Weissenberg.

Frankly, I am not impressed. Mushy left hand. Blurry right hand. Listen to the old Gulda version. Every note as clear as a bell, and a driving clockwork like beat.

Neither recording has been digitally remastered, or, if they have been, not much improvement in audio is noticeable, unlike, say, the Vladimir Ashkenazy early '70s recording of all three Rachmaninov piano concerti.
