    The reason that this Grand Marquis has the PPG side window glass is because it was ordered with the optional "Laminated Security Side Glass" option which comes with this "PPG Safe and Sound" glass as they called it. Ford touted in the sales literature that as well as being more durable, that it would block 95% of UV rays as well as cut down on road noise from the outside. IIRC it was a nearly $300 extra option on these cars from new.

    Anthony, I am with you 100%! You can never get tired of the feel of driving a full frame, rear wheel drive, V8 American car. (I own a few) Its a ride that you can not duplicate! Don’t get me wrong, fuel economy, reliability and body panels (rust/fit&finish) today are much superior to cars of the 60’s/70’s/80’s, however it came with a trade off…..style and comfort!! Just sayin😊

    In Florida this is the best kept secret. I gave my daughter my GS when I inherited my late mom’s GS. I tow a small boat trailer and a small motorcycle trailer with absolutely no problem. The 4.6 liter is a rock solid power plant. These cars on the highway even with towing behind it will get easily 24 mpg. But…. Around town that drops significantly to about 16-18 mpg. They are highway road cruisers. Treat them well and you can easily get 300,000 miles out of them. You pointed out the trim. The glue fails. I took mine off and used a 3m brand eraser wheel to get the glue residue off. No big deal. In Florida you can get these cars all day long for 10,000 and under depending on miles and condition. They are built like tanks and a good first car for a new teenage driver. My daughter got,”T-boned” by a lady in a Mercedes. Thank god my daughter didn’t get a scratch on her but the A frame of her GS got bent so it went to the salvage yard. I love Grand Marquis.

    I'm a Grand Marquis and Town Car guy. There was an old saying, "get near Lincoln quality for 2/3s the price with a Mercury." That was truer in the 1970s than it was in this year of car. I had an 04 Ultimate MGM and an 04 Ultimate LTC. The seat comfort, sound insulation, and ride was better in the Lincoln. In the 70s, those items were much closer between the two. As for GS versus LS...my GS seats were more comfortable than the LS seats...both from 1990. At any rate, wonderful cars. I miss the once mighty marque.

    I've been driving Grand Marquis' for the past 25 years, long before they become "trendy" to own. I am pleased to see one such as this example that is well preserved. Unfortunately, these cars are no longer viable to purchase and own anymore. People want exuberant amounts of money for these. Even for the ones that have been butchered. About 10 years ago it used to be you could buy a 10 year old road worthy one with under 70k miles for well less than $5k. Now they're at $13k - 20k. I purchased an '08 less than a year old that came off a fleet lease for $14k with 14k miles. At the end of the day, it's still an old car. Unfortunately, the polymer bonds break down with age regardless of care and mileage. Especially with this era with the plastic intakes. Fuel and regular maintenance costs play major ownership factors. High book retail values for these are $2-3k.

    Nice car for sure! I have an '07 MGM GS myself very similar to this one. Its been a great car for me. I find the cloth seats more comfortable than the leather seats. The steel wheels are also more resistant to dents and corrosion than the aluminum wheels.

    Is it true you can swap the steering wheels on these if you wanted the buttons for radio and climate control (when equipped with a digital unit)? They are already wired for it and it would effectively be plug and play?

    • @RustyZipper
      @RustyZipper 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Requires some work. I put a Lincoln steering wheel on my ‘11 Crown Vic to obtain cruise control. The dealer had to essentially “turn on” the CC module within the settings. I don’t recall what was required to get the radio controls to sync because I have the basic cop 4 button radio. It wasn’t a whole ordeal best I can recall.

    • @MrKinglauro
      @MrKinglauro 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes that is correct. As I understand it it's plug-and-play but this unit doesn't have a digital climate control so you would only be gaining radio controls IF GS models are pre-wired. But the LS ones with the digital climate control are definitely pre-wired

I've always done it that way but yeah I couldn't believe how strict it's gotten. This type of car at it's age and what it is should be a secondary vehicle. It's nice and in good shape but to use it every day over time is impractical I know from personal experience that it costs a fortune to maintain these once they start to develop problems. The frames & front fenders on these all rust. They are very leak prone and they chew up front end components like bubble gum. The car guy's have elevated the panthers to Sainthood status. I owned a Buick Century, Old's 88, Coupe Deville & Mercury Cougar only surface rust. The Panther frames rusted like they were dipped in salt water.
