Not only UPSC, i think, for today's scenario, this is true for most of the exams held for govt posts. UPSC is in the discussion because it takes hell lot of time, but trust me, most of the aspirants waste their time in preparation of government exams and they are left depressed and frustrated, some after failure and some even after getting selection.

And at a time around 5000 serious candidates are there. 10 lakh will apply. Only 5 lakh will appear and serious candidates are again 5000. So please avoid word like "UPSC is a trap".

I wish I had seen such a video in 2011 & stopped myself before entering prepration for UPSC. I did till 2014 & realised that it's a trap. I am still wondering why do so many people get into it and waste their important years including me I wish I had continued with my high paying software Engineer job that I left for preparing for UPSC. Such videos may save many people from being wrongly influenced about upsc.. .
If you are strong in CSAT, then along with UPSC CSE you should also go for SSC CGL, RBI Grade B, State PCS, UPSC EPFO, RRB and SBI PO exams. GK and Current affairs in all these exams are not so deep and comprehensive like UPSC CSE. A UPSC aspirant can easily cope up with that level of GK and CA in other exams. But English, Maths and Reasoning are the main concerns in other exams. So, if you have an edge in UPSC's CSAT exam, you can easily crack other exams. Law (LLB) and MBA are also some backup plans in Pvt. sector. NLSAT exam can give you entry to the Best National Law University in India (NLSIU) and CAT exam gives you a chance to study in top IIMs in India. Always remember - क्या हुआ जो मैदान हार गए. अभी सब कुछ नहीं हारे. "वो अदम्य साहस और इच्छाशक्ति जो सर झुकाने और सजदा करने को तैयार नहीं"

What is the purpose of learning botany for an IAS/IPS officer. This country will always stay backward if the civilians dont question anything the government does..
Even few people in my life tried to push me into state psc and upsc. State psc,ssc cgl takes years to publish final result while in upsc you have to compete with doctors,engineers,iim grads etc. I don't know why people with much higher qualification still compete for this exam causing cut throat competition. And again this is obviously a good career option but not everything.

Mehnat kitni bhi kar lo. Lakhon logon ke exams mein 1000 seats mehnat nahi jua-satta hai. I have graduated from one of the top MBA exams in India. Mere saath wale jo top MBA se nahi nikle, wo bhi companies mein aage badh gye hain. IIT NEET nahi nikla to tier 2 and 3 colleges ka option hota hai. Aap fail hoke zero pe nahi aa jate ho. Kitne hi bachhe tier 3 engineering colleges se nikal ke zyada mehnat karke IIT wale packages kama rhe hain. UPSC mein rank nahi aayi to aap kuch nahi ho. Neeche ke level pe lage, to bureaucracy mein zindagi nikal jaegi but IAS ke level pe nahi phchoge chahe kitni mehnat kar lo. All of your examples are not just pass or fail. There is a lot of grey area in between unlike UPSC where you are learning a skillset, which has no real life application if you fail the exam. Mehnat karo, but thoda realistic hona bhi zaroori hai. Life mein successful hone ke kai raaste hain. Manzil successful hone ki ho sakti hai, but raaste change karne padein to karo.
