I'm sure they will come up with a reason in future episodes, but I like to believe that it's one of those living things that just sticks with you. We have seen them get exhausted from using their powers, maybe ghosts need time to recharge as well. I mean, it seems like haunting can take a lot out of a person, erm… ghost.
