We used to call that a Joy Bath. Joy was a popular dishwashing soap in the US in the early 80s. The trick was lather up, jump in, and get right back out. Just enough to get the lather off. The soap leftover residue repelled the sticky salt. Well, mostly. Joy seemed to be traditional and worked best.
The thing "rather special" you are looking for are close to WWII bunkers on that walk. There are a few on the island. Good scuba diving (soft corals and good marine life) although rather shallow in Radical Bay too. Also the remains of Moltke Wreck is a good shallow site near the old car ferry ramp. Kelso reef approx 65nm ENE offers fantastic reef diving. Cheers, BobbyB.
Very calm with a dragging anchor and shoals nearby. I can just imagine how dangerous that would be with a bigger sea or sudden squall. I do appreciate the insights into life at sea, such as how you keep clean.
Very cool i envy you. I know that you are very experienced. I kinda missed my call for the sea. I did work on a sea going tug and a boat that looks for oil. But being land locked i guess i will have to wait until my next life. But until then I will watch your videos. Thank you
I love that place . Grew up there in the 60' s. My family ' s ashes are in Alma Bay. Spent many hours in the Marlon Bar, Horseshoe bay. Cheers from Thailand.
All the place names you mentioned (apart from the Magnetic Island bays) named by Captain Cook. Magnetic Island named by him due to compass problems when he was in the vicinity.
I would not survive on the boat for long. I need to move quite a bit to feel OK. If I was forced to, I would improvise something to make the pushbike used for exercise. If so, it would be awesome to connect it to the propeller. If the boat is moving it would reduce the drag. In windless weather exercising for an hour would get the boat along for like 2km. Once it gets going it should be easy. Something at least to fight boredom.
Hi Barry, in re. to your leg you absolutely have to massage it, hold the swollen part of the body above the level of the heart several times a day. Sometimes, raising the swollen area during sleep can be helpful. Stroking the affected area toward the heart using firm, but not painful, pressure might help move fluid out of that area, also switch to vegetarian and eat a bowl of lettuce every night if you can buy some somewhere which cleans the blood and unblocks arteries.. Cut out sugar for the next few weeks which helps clean your blood and also purchase some EDTA tablets which are detox tablets and also unblock arteries, I took them for a month and got all my energy back when I was dead tired once. Stay away from any processed meats which are apparently not good to eat at all, with crap in them that make it impossible for your system to digest properly, anything with any chemicals in it is bad for your leg and your health!. Additives, colorant, etc I would even cut out coffee and replace with tea for the next few weeks.. Add raw garlic to your vegetable salads every day when you get some, which is a natural anti-biotic, stick to oil and balsamic vinegar dressing only! Also add humus and olives on rice in the morning which is better than bread! All the best!
I know you had to put the camera down to free up both hands for the pulling in of the anchor. Have you thought about getting one of those cameras you attach to your head/ball cap so you can still record? Great video Barry.
I have a pc game called Sailaway allows me to sail around the world in real time in real weather with other pc sailors. I own a nordic folkboat from 1946 and plan to sail to the Azores in the comfort of my living room. Wish me luck.
So funny Barry's drama school. We never see anything but open water and Barry's problems. I think he just sails around in a circle, then posts a video in the same spot.
Hello Sea Dog Skipper. If you drag with a Mason anchor and his boat is a steel ball, that makes me think that the size of your anchor and weight ARE NOT CORRECT, IF THE TYPE OF ANCHOR IS THE BEST FOLLOWING THE MANTUS.
He should just carry on, while he can. Just giving up because you’ve got a few ailments is the wrong attitude to have when you get a bit older. Keep going, Barry, you’ve got many years of sailing in you.
This may be a stupid question for anyone who is a sailor, but on sleeping while you're cruising solo. If you had your radar scoped in for maybe 3 miles and a A.I.S. system working could you not sleep for a couple hours at a time. On other vlogs l have seen 12 minute timers for sleeping. I think that would drive me bonkers. Any answers are appreciated. Another good video Barry Cheers Mate.
As a responsible sailor, no, you could not. As a solo sailor, you have to be aware at all times of everything going on in your area. Thus, in ten to twenty minute snooze breaks, you get up and do a quick look about for anything of concern. Be it a ship, island, or floating debris in the water, etc. I don't think radar would indicate floating logs or such. Plus one needs to be sure of weather changes and also make sure your going the correct direction. Two or three hours heading in the wrong direction, even just a couple of degrees could put you into bad places like shoals or on the rocks. Of course in the middle of the ocean, you could be a bit more generous. Hope this helps some. Peace
It's crucially important for single handers to be able to motor up on the anchor while simultaneously retrieving the rode with the windlass. Run control wires to the helm and a momentary on spring loaded switch. Failure to retrieve an anchor is one of the main causes of single handers losing their boat.
i just found you today, new sub, do you have a previous video talking about your dog onboard? i have 2 small and one large dog, ive already bought thier life jackets, i have a 24ft swing keel on the trailer, when im ready to go i will not leave them behind,
This dog is from his friends boat. He doesn't have a pet, except when a bird drops in on occasion. I also don't think he answers alot of comments usually either, but I could be wrong on that point. I believe his videos are almost, but not quite a year behind. Peace

Every time you post a video my first thought is, "he's still alive"
Yeah, we all love you dearly, Captain Barry.
I was just thinking the same thing. He just adds so much joy to my life with these adventure vids and I wish I could send it right back.
Best sailing channel on TH-cam 👍
Magnetic Island & your nerves of steel…what a combo!

The video sunset was beautiful but the hues on the Magnetic Island were even more spectacular.

You look much better after the haircut!
Thanks, Seadog.
You need a secondary windlass controller on your helm.
This video was quite polarizing really!!!
Awesome sunset…proof that there must be a godd
Enjoy your video! Mike from Missouri

Barry really is the original 'Grotty Yachty' 🤣🤣
@7 ," I was stomping around the boat naked" I wondered why that boat was going away so fast ! :)

You're killing the game, Barry.
Barry, you need a Parrot so you have someone to talk to besides a camera! You could teach it to do all your cussing for you!...
Don't go overboard magnetic island is very beautiful but all round that island is full of sharks lol
Stay safe.

Washing up liquid is great for getting the oily stink off the body. Not recommended for permanent usage though barry.
Would a fiberglass boat sail faster than a heavy steel boat ?
Ruang volcano in Indonesia is giving us some very Colorful Sun Rises , and Sun Sets !
No wind...... what to do??? ...ah I know CHILLY with lots of BEANS!
Great video
Nice video Barry 😎
After so much cruising, sould you go for the boat you have now or a slightly more modern boat like the "wind machine" in this video? Just curious.
Dogs are good people and usually hams on the camera

There's nothing like plunging into a nice bush!
As long as it’s well trimmed
👏👏👏
so stressfull keeping deep water under the keel, anchor dragging? headed for a grounding in swell,🤯
The home of dingos kolas and sharks lol
👍
😎
Is someone on the boat 3:17?
We are at that age, the one where you really have to listen to your body and admit that you are no longer a spritely 50!
