(SM64DS) Behind the Waterfall Balloon Star 0xB presses

- Hey, it's been a while !
In this video, I collect the Balloon star in Behind the Waterfall in 0xB presses. This is an improvement in every category ! For RIG categories, it is a thousand-year-timesave, and for non-RIG categories, this saves half a B press for 1.1 and 1 B press for 1.0 ! (previous 1xB TAS: • (SM64DS) Behind the Wa... )
This improvement was found by Really_Tall who found that a balloon bounce sets you up vertically for a Quantum Tunnel. From there, I just needed to position myself above the spot and clip through.
Honorable mention to arca9 who suggested the idea of using balloon mario in the first place, and tested a bunch of other strats using sniffits and goombas before having this idea.
It's a small thing but it's nice to share it :) I upload mainly when I have cool things to post, and since I focused on other things, I didn't have anything to post for a while.
So yeah, I'll keep posting every once in a while when I have cool stuff.
Anyways, that's all for me ! Love ya 🥰
"a thousand year timesave" oh my god
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Timesave on RIG Categories
Dang, beat me to it.
That HAS to be the record for "biggest time save of all time"
@@throwaway1743Alternatively you could save your time by just not playing… lol
Oh sweet! Can't wait for a 150 star tas where it's just the characters phasing through walls and ground!
Reality is simply a suggestion
iirc the 150 star tas isn't going to have tunneling in it due to the fact that it would kinda trivialize a lot of shit and completely reset the routing and tasing process (and also just be far less interesting to both tas and watch lol)
the goal of a tas is to go inhumanly fast, trvializing the game was never a problem the way I see it
"Hey Mario can you grab this star for me?"
"Yeah sure lemme just turn into a balloon real quick so I can phase into the ground and fall out of the sky"
Cheers for TASing this! Nice to have it properly 0x now :)
My baby! It has finally left limbo! It has been TASed 😍 I recall when it was a seemingly unviable idea

Woah. I was just watching your any% tas. Cool to see this
This star is now fast enough to be in the tas btw !
@@adealtasI thought it was 0 Star?
@@Sqidzies well to be honest it's not 100% confirmed that you can Quantum Tunnel to get oob everywhere without the B button. But yeah, I rather meant the category 50 stars BBC
Wait I thought you were talking about with b button my bad
ADEAL IS BACK
This is a wicked save by Really_Tall! Wish you awesomeness as it comes.
Super Mario: The Thousand-Year Timesave
>24h sm64 abc timesave fans eating good this weekend
That is fudging cool, i wish to play all games like this with fusion mode, just like megamind and his escape route
I wonder how many Quantum tunnels per level are in this game
More than you could count. For every two triangles that meet, you can tunnel through if they are aligned properly, which is the case most of the time. It's just so incredibly precise that it never happens. We've literally never seen it happen unintentionally
@@adealtas wasn't there that one time liberty clipped through the lobby stairs without explanation and was theorized to likely be due to accidental tunneling? though then again that wasn't actually recorded so I suppose it still wasn't seen lol
@@crumpet575 yeah, since it wasn't recorded, it's the best explanation we have but we haven't even managed to reproduce it with quantum tunneling
that's so cool omg
millenium timesave holy fuck
I could do this RTA :tf:
incredible
I didn’t know there was a balloon power up in Mario 64 ds 😰

hey, do you think you're ever coming back to NSMBW ultra-jumpless? it was definitely my favorite content for a while.
I'm not done with 5-Tower, but I'm not sure if I'll do any other level.
i always believed
UPWARP!!!!!
Here's a glitch I found: you can get Yoshi into Battle Fort by going into first person on the block and looking up so the camera is in the wall and ground pounding and if the camera is in the right spot you clip right through the block
What is an RIG category? Google is being unhelpful.
RIG is a glitch that lets you lick objects remotely (like licking the star in this level from the ground level) but it takes in average 1000 years to execute (not even exaggerating), so it's very controversial
@@adealtas Does RIG stand for anything?
@@ZipplyZane Remote Interaction Glitch
@@adealtas I have a proposal for the controversy. As I understand it, minimum X speedruns in the RTA world don't actually count a lower number unless it is actually used in the run.
For example, a minimum coin run on some game might require 14 coins in the world record. If something is found that would make it take 13 coins, the record still wouldn't change until someone actually completes a run with 13 coins.
So I suggest that, while the tactics is fine, it doesn't change the record until someone actually uses it in a run.
That's said, it can still count in a _theorerical_ run. And so a faster method would still obsolete that theoretical run.
@@ZipplyZane Many of the strats in these challenges aren't humanly doable anyway, it's mostly TASes. But "non-RIG categories" and "RIG categories" are pretty much the divide you're suggesting
:0
how is there a thousand year timesave, what strategy took a thousand years to do???
You need to wait for a 32 bit integer to overflow
@@defaultusername1145 I thought they had to wait for the seal on the thousand-year door to weaken to the point of breaking
Zero A Presses 64 DS huh?
B is jump in 64 DS, A becomes a punch button.
