I disagree on the drop waist dress as a short torso person, it feels as the waist line drops to our hips and make us look bulky when we have a slim high waist, removing all curves, quite unflattering. a fitted one colour tone dress is best
I was wondering about this too. I have short torso and although I have a bit of waist but it is not very define and my hip is wide.. I don't think this kind of dresses look good on me

I have been watching your videos for a while and this is the best one I've seen so far. I finally realized why I always look so awkward in cropped tops and high-waisted jeans even though I am 5'1. Keep up the good work!!
Thanks so much Chi! I am finally learning how-to dress my petite (5ft 1in) hourglass frame. I just retired from my job and will be going through my entire closet to update my looks. Please keep posting! Your advice is really helping me.
This was very good. My friend and I are the same height. 5"4- 120 lbs. She has short legs and a long torso. She looks great in spaghetti strap dresses and the same dress looks weird on me. I look good in skinny jeans while they don't suit her as much.
Really helpful! I have this body type, and these tips are great. It's challenging with fitted jackets or dresses, because when the waist line of the garment is hitting your high hip instead of your waist, thats almost impossible to alter. For jackets, I just dont button them. But for dresses, i just started sewing again. On most patterns, i am removing up to 4 inches from the neck to waist portion! I guess for models its not so much of a problem because they are so thin. Thanks!
Me too Virginia... I just started sewing again and I have the same problem. I practically have to redraft the pattern from shoulders, bust dart to armhole.
@@robinagaines6388 So far I have found enough room below the dart that shortening the overall neck/waist doesnt get into the dart area. I dont think i could rework the arm hole - that is major! Some patterns come with a petite option. That helps, I still have to adjust but only by folding at the natural waistline. Happy sewing!
Dresses are hard to find when you're petite, hourglass-shaped and also have a short torso. There's always too much fabric at the back, I call it the backsack. What works best for dresses are dresses that don't have a natural waistline, and add a waistline myself by adding a thin belt at around navel-height.
Chin. Thanks to your advice I wore something I had never worn. A STRAPLESS JUMPSUIT. With wide leg, I went to a party yesterday and I was the prettiest 🥰🥰🥰🥰
I don’t do a lot of crop tops but have a couple of short, almost bolero type embroidered jackets that I love. I do; however, wear them usually with black pants and black top under size it’s the jacket that really pops. The black monochromatic under helps camouflage my short waist so I hope I’m ok.
I'm 5'3, midsized hourglass (and living in Denmark where everybody else is tall), meaning most dropped waistlines and shift dresses makes me appear larger then I am.
This is great advice. I wish someone had explained this to me 40 years ago. I have a short torso and long legs (and to make it even worse: a large bust). I do avoid cropped jackets, high rise pants, wide belts and tucking in....but it has taken years and lots of waisted money to come to this conclusion.
This advice is so helpful for me. I'm petit, with a shorter torso and longer legs. I always know certain things (like tucking shirts) don't look right, and now I better understand why.

It seems Nicole Richie’s dressing from the examples you gave..doesn’t mind showing her torso..she seems to be about accentuating her longer legs!
While I agree that cropped jackets with pants is a hard no, I love a cropped jacket with a sheath (skimming, not full on body-con) dress. I am short torso, long leg, plus size, busty, and just under 5’4”. I’m old enough to know what works for me (57), yet still obstinate enough to try new looks which usually don’t work. You are providing a great service - I wish something like this had been available to me 30 years ago as I stumbled through adult fashion. Around 2010 I started to get my fashion feet back under me! I hope that your younger audience takes full advantage of the information you share!
The problem with mid rise to me is they work their way down. My high waist requires a trouser that goes around my waist and not my hips. The dent of my waist keeps the trousers up.
i just,,, my legs are 119 cm and my upper torso is 44 cm, its more frustrating to shop for sets because the pants usually ends up being too short while the shirt is perfectly fitted, OR sometimes the waist part fits perfectly but its too short for my legs, then once i get one size larger, the waist is just too big but thr length is fine h e l p
I remember when I use to live by these types of tips but as i've learned my body a bit more the more I realize how much I prefer high waisted jeans compared to midrise, and I also wear crop tops they don't look as bad as how I thought they would.
Please add more examples of what to wear for this type. I have so much trouble finding nice looks bc my tummy w love handles is also big plus being petite.
I am 5' tall and I have a short torso with a high rise(10") and long legs. I also have an overweight apple shape body, with a large(DDD) bust. All of the tips seem to clash with each other. I read through your blog and I'm still at a loss.
Maybe try paneled shirts with multiple seams, including princess seams. Also try shirts with vertical pleats, like tuxedo style button ups, and dresses and skirts that have a godet style skirt. Just a thought. Good luck.
HELP I DONT UNDERSTAND?? For example, she said do not wear high rise pants, wear monochrome etc to make it balance, but then right after showed Nicole pulling off the exact opposite (wearing high rise, colour block outfit- which did not balance) and then said she's gorgeous?? I thought that's a bad example? What is it she's trying to convey? WEAR OR NOT WEAR

Thank You so much! I love your example of the stars but also how Nicole Richie still tucks in her tops her legs look even longer. Though I have short torso longer tops never looked good on me. Certain crops not too much have always worked best especially with blazers. IDK why, lol. I am looking for your video about wardrobe basics. Thank You so much I am so glad I found you. I am 5 ft and quite slim body type is closest to hourglass. :-)
do people who have a short torso tend to NOT be able to wear empire waist tops? The gathering that is supposed to go under the bust ends up always hitting the middle of my bust, so I can't wear it. Part of why I watched this was to see if you mention this issue. When it comes to bras, I would always have to make the straps longer.
I love your informative videos. One suggestion, however...when I have watched several with earphones on the variance in volume, for example your music, or when you are narrating model photos makes volume difficult...constantly turning it up and down. Short people can easily look much heavier by not dressing for your body type. I love the acknowledgment that all women under 5’4” aren’t necessarily waifs.
i want to wear bf jeans and baggy clothes (as some people call it 'skater girl' aesthetic) but im not sure if it will look good on me since i have an inverted triangle AND short torso body. :(
I would not wear both in a combination, unless you just want a comfy outfit to chill in. If you like baggy tops, then pair with tighter bottom. For bf jeans, I’d pair with a fitted top.
I’m 5’5 short waisted with long legs. I can never find pants that hit at just the right ankle length. Always too short. Any recommendations? Also would buy petite tops and blouses work to avoid shirts being too long over the waist?
I am Mos grl's height as well and I gave up on trying to find pants because they are always too short. and jeans are always uncomfortable so I got tired of dressing dorky and frumpy and decided to just wear vintage dresses every day.

I have a short torso long legs but also an apple shape (due to short torso) but still find that hiding the waist like these tips looks bad. I have found that actually still showing of the waist still looks best. The trick I have found is to search (endlessly) for a line type clothes that flare at the lowest area possible on the waist and having a mid thick sinching in. Two thick it looks bad, too thin doesn’t emphases the waist
So good! Sounds like a weird question but what about workout gear? I know croptops are a no and know I know why! I am a fitness coach and do need some photos of me in workout gear but need flattering outfits!
Kimberly Platt, if you are in amazing shape and want to show off that bod that you work so hard for, I say wear any fitness clothes you want. But if you want to stay away from high rise leggings, then you can wear the ones that sit below the navel. They look great also. You can also wear a top amd bottom that are the same color (low contrast) so that you look like one lean column if skin is not showing between pants and bra. If it’s a bra you are wearing instead of a longer tighter top then keep it close to your skin color. If you’re fair, a light pink won’t divide your body. If your darker skin toned, maybe a darker color. And if you are not large busted a shorter torso is not really so obvious anyway. Wear different outfits, take selfies, and then compare them. You’ll know which one looks better.
If you want to know how this looks for short or long , check out celebrities in bikinis . Cameron Diaz has a very short torso , hence long legs) Claire Danes has a long torso hence short legs . Most petite women , 5ft 3 and under are in proportion . 😊
Hi Sandy- half tuck is great for short waisted girls. Or you can also do a full tuck but pull out the edge of the clothes and fold it over so that it won't shorten your torso too much- I'll do a quick video to demonstrate that!
@@PetiteDressing Thank you so much. I look forward to it. I just discovered you channel and absolutely love all the information and examples you provide. Such a great resource!
These models are all really young and thin. How about showing us for the senior lady .. I personally have shorter legs and diffidently don’t have the skinny legs. More like athletic calf’s. Just a thought because you have such lovely ideas
Hello Chi, amazing video....but my problem is different...I have equal proportion of torso and leg, which is 30"...I'm 5 feet mostly apple shaped girl..can you please help me to find my type of clothes..???
Thank you! So, it depends on your goal- do you want your torso/leg look equal, or would you prefer to have legs appear longer? If the latter, then all my styling videos on how to elongate legs should help!
High low tops can work good for your shape! You want the middle to be shorter and two sides to be longer, giving you the "tucking" effect but without shortening your torso!
Thanks again for more of these informative videos. I realize you are probably talking across your camera. The sound of your voice is very harsh and loud with echos. When you talk over a clip your voice sounded much better probably due to you being close to the mic.
I have 70 cm the torso and 80 the legs .does that mean that i have long legs and short torso ? What the everege between the legs and the torso on sm shold be ?
I’m not petite, I’m 5’10” but I have a short torso and long legs. I’m also a slim hourglass shape and feel most comfortable when my waist is defined. So I love crop tops but high waisted jeans do look odd on me sometimes. What should I do about this? Can I define my waist and equalize my proportions at the same time?
Hi Sydney- yes, you can go with a top with cinched waist (like a wrap top or peplum top) which is regular length- that way they will not shorten your torso while still highlighting your waist!
I am 5'3 and a half, and I have long limbs with a short torso. people always think I'm a lot taller than I am. I wish I was more in proportion and didn't appear taller :(
Hi Chi amazing styles I like that you show the celebrities again and the way they dress and my favorite is Sarah Jessica Parker I love the way she styles her clothes and I love her styles and that is why I started to like fashion more when she defined the style for us lovely ladies out there and she a amazing fashion icon. If you want to know how this looks for short or long , check out celebrities in bikinis . Cameron Diaz has a very short torso , hence long legs) Claire Danes has a long torso hence short legs . Most petite women , 5ft 3 and under are in proportion . 😊
160-162 That is no petite
I have a short torso and I'm plus size, but 4'11" and an hourglass. It's so hard to dress me sometimes.
Would love more videos on how short waisted can find styles that the can half tuck or full tuck a shirt.
Hi Kathy, good advice!
I have cows, not calves! 😉
I'm a grown ass woman and this is somehow the first time I'm understanding why petite pants are too short for me even though I'm only 5'2"
It's great to hear that, I hope this video helped you! ☺️
Hii...iam very upset about my short torso.😣
My height is 5"7
I am also very lean body figur& it's looks not great
There are ways to balance it out.
To me it sounds awesome! Think Cameron Diaz! Just work those long beautiful legs. Keep in mind that most models are lean rectangle shapes.
i’m 5 foot 2 and whenever i buy petite leggings (xs or s) they’re always so short on my legs, so annoying !
I have a very short torso, waist to bust, it’s a nightmare! Thanks for this video.
This is me your so spot on 😊
Love this video! So helpful
Hii I wonder if you could give any advice on styling hi-low tops for short torso and long legs 🥰
High low tops can work good for your shape! You want the middle to be shorter and two sides to be longer, giving you the "tucking" effect but without shortening your torso!
@@PetiteDressing Thank you so much for taking time and helping me. And I really ❤ your styling tips
Thanks for the interesting video from Ulrike from Germany with short torso
I'm 5'9 but I have long legs and shot torso how should I dress up with korean fashion help me plz😞
Thanks again for more of these informative videos. I realize you are probably talking across your camera. The sound of your voice is very harsh and loud with echos. When you talk over a clip your voice sounded much better probably due to you being close to the mic.
Thanks Mary that’s helpful to know!
I have 70 cm the torso and 80 the legs .does that mean that i have long legs and short torso ? What the everege between the legs and the torso on sm shold be ?
okay but I can't live without high waisted pants because Im chubby and need to look slimmer 😔😔
High waist is my fave!
Where can I buy petite clothes from?
Asos
I think my bust sits on my waistline 😂! Finding dresses and tops are a nightmare, but I look dang good in skinny jeans and heels 👠!😁
Am i the only short torso long legs that likes showing how long their legs actually are?
What if you have a short torso and apple body shape? My high waisted pants almost touch my bra.
And whar if you have short and small torso and long and strong legs? A quite tall Pearl shaped woman?
I am 5’1 and I need petite short pants to fit properly.
My daughter is short I’m short she has a long waist and I have short waist
Depending on method, isquare different?!

Sending love to everyone❤
I'm 5"2 too
Would this tips still work if you less than 5' I'm 4'7
Hi Edith you should combine these tips with my other videos on how to style shorter girls!
It has nothing to do with height but body shape. My friend is 5"9 and no torso.
shit i just bought two new high waisted jeans
When you have short legs and short torso
I think that sounds balanced!
What if your also apple shaped?
That might mean the belly could be more noticeable... I just did a new apple shape styling video- check it out!
I’m an hourglass figure and short waisted it’s so hard to style out clothes and look normal 😔
What percent of body does long legs cover.
it sucks because clothes that i can't wear because of my proportions are what's most flattering for my shape
I totally hear you!
I think it’s supposed to be “a short torso” not just “short torso”, the title isn’t grammatically correct so I didn’t understand at first.
I am short waisted, petite at 5,1 and pear shaped, it's a challenge to remember all the rules sometimes 🙈
Hi, I totally hear where you are coming from!
My torso is somewhat balanced, it’s only SLIGHTLY shorter. Why am I always in between categories? 🤣
I am 5'3 and a half, and I have long limbs with a short torso. people always think I'm a lot taller than I am. I wish I was more in proportion and didn't appear taller :(
well, that's opposite for me im 5'2 and has a long legs i'm happy bc i appear to be tall 😂
What if you’re a hourglass shape with a short torso? 😅
Can I suggest that you use the phrase "Women with 'a' short torso" instead of "women with short torso"? It sounds like a condition without the "a".
Noted!
No one believes me when I say I’m 5’3.” They think I’m 5’6.” Short torso long legs.
I'm 5ft but I have a short torso and long legs
Hi 👋
Does a long torso, mean you have a long waist and short torso, short waist ? Does a long rise, mean you have short legs ?
Hi Chi amazing styles I like that you show the celebrities again and the way they dress and my favorite is Sarah Jessica Parker I love the way she styles her clothes and I love her styles and that is why I started to like fashion more when she defined the style for us lovely ladies out there and she a amazing fashion icon. Nicole Richie is great when she tucks her top in and shows how the pants look and the pointy toe high heels look elegant. Thank you Chi for a great video as all ways and have a great weekend. Love XO💕
Thank you love!
