Look at Islam, don't look at Muslims, Islam is perfect and Muslims are not, Muslims will always be tempted by Satan until they commit sins, but Allah is merciful and always asks Allah for protection.
Islam is not for Arabs, Asians, Africans, Americans, Europeans, etc., Islam is for humans

      Narrated Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri:
Once Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) went out to the Musalla (to offer the prayer) of `Id-al-Adha or Al-Fitr prayer. Then he passed by the women and said, "O women! Give alms, as I have seen that the majority of the dwellers of Hell-fire were you (women)." They asked, "Why is it so, O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) ?" He replied, "You curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands. I have not seen anyone more deficient in intelligence and religion than you. A cautious sensible man could be led astray by some of you." The women asked, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! What is deficient in our intelligence and religion?" He said, "Is not the evidence of two women equal to the witness of one man?" They replied in the affirmative. He said, "This is the deficiency in her intelligence. Isn't it true that a woman can neither pray nor fast during her menses?" The women replied in the affirmative. He said, "This is the deficiency in her religion."

Infatuation and attraction do not usually develop in the heart except because of letting one’s gaze wander freely; failing to lower the gaze and refrain from looking at that which is prohibited; and doing that which strengthens this infatuation, such as listening to haraam songs, reading or watching love stories, letting one’s thoughts wander, and letting the infatuation take root, especially if one’s heart is spiritually weak and devoid of remembrance of Allah, may He be exalted.

@@apbmilitariesshe’s clearly old enough to be his mom, chill. In older peoples perspectives they look at youngsters as children even though they are adults. Also, with regards to lowering the gaze, this is to be done so you dont get attracted to them, which is clearly not the case here. Its okay to look at someone. If it wasnt allowed you cant even have a basic conversation or debate with anyone from the opposite gender, heck remove teachers from schools and make people drive with blindfolds on. Islam sets out rules which are meant to be for our protection and assistance, not to be read in an unreasonable way. Its inevitable to look at people. If you start feeling forbidden thoughts like feeling the need to touch someone or developing feelings for them or something worse like harrassing them, then lower your eyes to protect yourself and the other person from fitnah. Its not that difficult to comprehend. What is not allowed to be seen are the awrah of the opp gender, good luck lowering your gaze from that, considering how prevalent revealing it is these days. As a woman, I just change the channel when it switches to wrestling or boxing where men dont cover properly. Otherwise, we dont have much to turn against. Plus we women dont get attracted to the opp gender as easily as men do. Speaking for myself, never in my life have I felt attracted to a man or even had a crush like some people do, doesnt mean people dont, its just that I dont stare at people despite being goodlooking. I dont hang out with the opp gender unless for work reasons but I have my boundaries and dont get personal with men. Its one of the biggest reasons why women cover to protect themselves from strange men’s gazes and are comfortable in their space without being leered at or feeling exposed or an eye candy for others (ofc hijab has multiple other benefits too which most women understand but thats not the point). I was hired for my work ethic and professionalism not my looks or beauty, considering no man knows what i look like besides my mehrams.

@@purplelove3666 I highly disagree for example lowering your gaze would mean no watching porn and it has been proved that watching porn actually makes you see others as objects and in reality most content of porn are actually rape so yeah…not lowering your gaze make rape less criminal because you consume this content.
Talking about marital rape the same occur if you don’t lower your gaze and become a slave to your own desires you will probably not listen to your spouse desires.
You do realize that you CAN be married and STILL not lower your gaze. Right ?
That’s why adultery exist and even worst incest…I agree on the fact that rape is a sadistic act but it’s extremely common too, so thinking that there’s no link between rape and not lowering your gaze is not logical.
Lowering your gaze not only protect your own heart but make you respect others and especially women who are constantly sexualized and objectified in our society.

18:11 its such a beautiful thing to hear that these two gentlemen see no diffrence in respecting/sexualising 2 diffrently dressed women. Often in this world modestly covered women (whether its a hijabi or justma modest outfit) will get sexualised and harassed regardless of their dress and therefore lowering the gaze is more important than dressing modestly in society. Whether men do it intentionally or not, excessive staring (let alone the thoughts that may come with it) is easily noticeable by most women and makes us EXTREMELY uncomfortable, whether this is done with a supposed flirtatious or creepy intent. I think this whole staring thing is a core component to the development of the male gaze and the fact that most women feel like they're constantly being surveyed by a male gaze even when there is no one in the room. now obvs uncomfrtable staring can be experinced by both genders but the centuries long history of invasive staring of women is what has developed it as a distinct phenomenon (e.g. we have to by shy/polite recipients of unwelcome attention)

And as to what Kurt said at the end, we Muslims do believe in a Diety Who will hold us accountable for our actions. For example the same case you both mentioned, you both lower your gaze. But the difference comes from why. Like you feel its intrinsic, but we Muslims do as a submission to Allah. You must be believing that you are not accountable for your actions. But we believe we will be, rewarded for good. So the core belief of why you do is different. And the end result too, as we believe this is not our final abode. Allah has sent us the Quran so that we abide by it and enter heaven, which is the final abode for the believers. And the rewarding is based on our deeds and intentions. And I think that gives a meaning to this life. Personally I feel like if you do a good thing and its just like ' okay, good for you ', there is no purpose of this life then. Just live and die ? And what next then ?

Once you see nothing wrong with what you do, you will take the next step. You will continue doing that, aided by Satan, until you fall into sin.
It starts with a minor temptation that you can get out of, as long as you don’t minimize it, then it gets stronger, step by step, until you cannot get out of it. People don’t realize that falling into sin is gradual. We shouldn’t be prideful, believing that we are stronger and better than falling into certain situations.

What gabe said and his explanations were so well thought of mashallah and it rlly did answer the questions. I don’t rlly like how Kurt kept saying things were similar like the fact that he thinks the universe is god or smt is the base of where he goes wrong and were Muslims will all not agree with because we have a Creator and that creator is all knowing and never wrong and is the one who created everything. Because we can’t just appear on earth and that’s that it 100% makes sense that we have been created and the universe has been created by Allah because nothing can just appear. Also we pray 5 times a day and follow the rulings of the Quran and follow how Muhammad peace be upon him lived. Like no going to clubs and not falling for shaytans whispers as in its ok to just drink alcohol, be arrogant, be selfish, do drugs… and obviously we’re human beings so we are not perfect and that’s why this is a test were Allah tells us to avoid those sins that he clearly wrote in the Quran and seek his forgiveness if we sinned in this dunya. He wants us to know that the fast pleasures of this dunya is nothing good (like for example drinking alcohol is rlly bad for you and that’s why it’s forbidden and also eating pigs is forbidden because researchers found thy they do lead to parasites in the brain and they are a very dirty animal)(everything that is forbidden for us to do written in the Quran all have a reasoning for it) compared to how heaven will be if we seek forgiveness and are able to enter heaven with Allahs will.

In the Qur'an, "lowering one's gaze" (Arabic: غَضَّ بَصَرِهِ, ghadda basarih) means to cast down or avert one's gaze from something that is forbidden or inappropriate. This concept is mentioned in several verses of the Qur'an, particularly in relation to modesty and chastity.
Surah Al-Noor (24: 30-31), Allah commands believers to:
"Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and guard their private parts. That is purer for them. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what they do. And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their private parts..."
In this context, lowering one's gaze means avoiding looking at members of the opposite sex with lust or desire, as well as refraining from gazing at forbidden things such as pornography or immodest images.
The purpose of lowering one's gaze is to maintain modesty, chastity, and spiritual purity, and to avoid situations that may lead to temptation or sin. It's a way of showing respect for oneself, to others, and to Allah.
    Wallaahu A'lam

I AM IN MY MID 60 NOW. WHEN I ARRIVED IN THE U.S. AS A TEENAGER IN 70s, FROM PAKISTAN, I HADNT THE FAINTEST IDEA THAT WHITE AMERICAN TEENAGERS WILL BE DISCUSSING ISLAM. LET ALONE, ACTUALLY ACCEPTING IT AS A TRUE RELIGION. LET ME TELL YOU, YOU HAVE MADE THE MOST IMPORTANT DECISION OF UOUR EXISTENCE. MY FAMILY HAS A RUN ON OF WALI ALLAH, MEANING FRIEND OF ALLAH. I BELIEVE, I AM ALSO ONE OF THEM. ALLAH HAS GIVEN ME A SPECIAL LIFE EXTRAORDINARY EXPERIENCE, MANY TIMES OVER. SO, IF ANYONE SAYS TO ME, THAT I PROMOUNCE THAT ALLAH DOES NOT EXIDT OR THEY WILL KILL ME. I WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO DO THAT. I WILL SIMPLY TELL THEM, DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO. THIS IS THE LEVEL OF MY CONVICTION IN ALLAH AND ISLAM. ALL I CAN SAY YO UOU MY FRIEND, UOU HAVE GOT THE RIGHT ONE, BABY! PEACE ABD LOVE, MY SONS. ❤️

A reply to Kurt; the Diety is teaching you, essentially, something it took time for you to figure out. You said that you "figured out" that looking lustfully at women made you feel bad, so you stopped. God promises us that the things he's teaching us in the Quran are all for our benefit, God doesn't benefit at all. Take a different example in fasting, or prayer, or charity to the poor, God is saying make these things a regularity in your life, for your own benefit. If someone figures some of these things out later in life, when he's 30, 40, 50 years old, he's wasted time not doing the things that benefit him for all that time. And the things God says to abstain from; alcohol, gambling, adulatory/fornication have already ruined him by the time he's figured out it's bad for him. These things were already known 1500 years ago and we don't live long enough, nor are we smart enough to figure out everything by trial and error, over our very short lives. Better to use the wisdom passed down over millennium, that has been proven to be true over and over. A believer in Allah doesn't have to keep re-inventing the wheel in terms of morality, he uses the blueprint of past. And there's wisdom in that.

For Jews, the headscarf was a symbol of purity and honor that pagan women did not have. They also made sure that their heads were covered while praying. In fact, the tradition of covering the morning prayer with a special rectangular fabric cloth called tallit, made of silk or wool with tassels on the edges, continues among Jews.

    Mashallah, brother Gabe nailed it.
And I mean no disrespect, but I feel like what the agnostic (I didn't catch his name) is doing, is that he is taking his morality from religion (probably Christianity) and then disconnecting it from God and acting like it was his own idea in the first place.
For example, if someone grew up in a society that had never been exposed to religious teachings, and they were all atheists/agnostics, would they believe that lusting after women is bad? Would they believe that they should lower the gaze?
If we look at the western society today, despite the fact that it was built upon Christianity, they still don't believe in those things that religion teaches, and so that proves that religion does infact significantly change how individuals and societies behave.
