I hear ya.......same here, killed a couple thousand in screens & digitizers trying to learn this on my own with limited instructional resources (ipad air 2 screen, no less).....the vacuum time in my laminator was one of the major keys to my success.
Somebody has a Pace MBT-350! That’s what I’m talking about. That’s s great unit! That sure is a neat manual vacuum machine Justin. I’m not big on automation when it comes down to doing ticky work. It is much better to have control over that piece you are focused on and manual is better for me anyhow. If the machine does it, it just cuts your satisfaction factor out! Opinions vary. That’s okay too!😊👍🏻
No, not OCA cutting here unless its an emergency =D And at that point, Im sure I would use some sort of smaller paper cutter that holds the OCA like paper, prob would not use scissors or anything.
Hi guys!!! What i did with mines was i added an extra vacuum pump to the actual machine i want to home depot bought some plumbing hose and added the pump this aded a lot more pressure on to that oca if any of you need help or pictures of what i did let me know
It's all fine but isn't it safer to apply OCA on the glass instead? This sure won't work for polarizer, or rather it will but shouldn't be done that way since the effect won't be correct but for OCA shouldn't really matter. Also, in case of issues with picking up OCA sheet and having to press on the top of the machine, it's just easier to put something in between display/glass and OCA temporarily (i often put another OCA sheet horizontally).
You can absolutely do glass first, but I personally prefer to apply directly to the display myself, In my experiences it prevents the degassing between paint and glass layers on the glass, I found some old refurbishing guides from Japan a few years back that had an entire section explaining the pitfalls of this type of degassing on displays at the intersection point where glass meets paint caused by improper rolling of the oca onto the glass, which the display roll does not have. There is about a 14-20um dip from the paint where air can be trapped during rolling that won't press or autoclave out, causing those oh so nice side bubbles that usually show up the next day on refurbs. Ill see if i cant find the pdf file or link to post in the description on here if i can still locate it. It was an interesting read, more importantly, its cool to see how the professional companies regard the process and its complexity. TLDR: OCA to Glass is perfectly fine to do if you are having good luck with it.
It may depend on the glass. I do recall something like that with older S4 and S5 where I could spot that the paint is thicker. I was just taught that way as a safer method. AMOLED aside, LCD screens are sometimes more fragile and seeing how much you push down on them (and how i damaged couple when cleaning from old OCA) make me cautious. Still, i'm newbie in OCA refubs. You could do a separate video about polarizers, on how to apply them, which side is the side with glue, why display is still not as dark as it should be (mainly AMOLEDs) as this info is hard to find.
Ill try it out, never had any issues with anything moving around? Seems like it could throw it off a bit. A buddy of mine Hector he actually cut one of the silicone pads to put in there like i do and says he likes that as well. Just not sure because I haven't tried his method.
Ditto, I just take a can of air duster and just blip it at the edge to kick the OCA up a little, works great! I always roll to the glass, never to the LCD.....but I am doing the ipad air 2 screen.....
Man, the learning process on this was a pain in the ass. I had to figure all this out on my own. LOL. Wish you made this video 2 years ago. LOL.

The 4 screws on top if you adjust will bring the roller up slightly I have it set up now so every time no pressure needed it picks up polarizer or oca
I just noticed that OCAMaster has a spring hinge when I have found putting a business card to raise the post helps eliminate bottom bubbles.
Hi Justin,
What is your opinion for refurbishing with LOCA instead of OCA?
Whats that little tri-pod thingie you have your web-cam mounted to?

Hey Justin.
I have a question do you cut the oca? How do you do that? Can u give me some tips or send me a video how u do this? Thanks you

I don't understand how only 91 people have liked this..
This cant be done with a Edge Display right?

KOOOL... can i see it
Okay Mister smartypants, how do I do this with a 46" screen? :P
very, very carefully XD hahahaha
Look who's feeling mo bettah.

Pro tip: you don't have to press on top. Just blow a little air in the side by mouth.

Just blow from 8-10 inches away. Won't disturb anything. Like you are blown your bangs off of your face.
