I bought the Midori 5 year journal with the cream colored embroidered cover last year and I love it! I used it almost every day (I did have to "catch up" a couple of times; I knew what I wanted to write for each day, but didn't have time to get out my fountain pen on that particular day). I used the same fountain pen and ink color all last year and now I've switched to a new pen and ink for 2023. I love the way the paper handles my fountain pen ink. I can't compare it to Hobonichi because I've never owned a Hobonichi journal/planner. P.S. I LOVE "show and tell"! Never feel bad about sharing whatever sparks your interest. The amount of work you've done in your journal is just amazing! I loved the little "flip" at the end.

I was fortunate to live in Japan for about 5 years in the 90's. Just loved it, loved the little stationary shops, the 1 Yen shops ( probably more now ). The food was out of this world, saschimi being my favorite. The people were so nice . Remember meeting a group of Japanese women for lunch at the end of it everyone pulled out their little hobonichi calender to schedule the next lunch. Unfortunately never mastered the language and had to rely on landmarks, and gestures to get around. Ended up with a collection of vintage Kokeshi dollls which I treasure. Domo Arigatou gozaimasu Mits-san. Love your channel
I’m doing the hobo five this year first time. I’m loving the blank pages they put in really enjoying it so far. Next year want to get a regular hobonichi journal to try but English version. I didn’t realize I had option when I ordered the 5 year so I can’t read the quotes. I bought it from Amazon.
Mits the yarn is in the order of the days which is cool too. And it is a memory of opening them. I have started my personal journal I am thinking of doing memory journaling but I don't want to start unless I am sure
I am on the last year of my 5 year. I really like the paper in the Hobonichi. I had a Midori 3 year but I didnt like the paper as much. I was trying to use them at the same time but for differnet focuses and I ended up not continuing in the midori. The midori was also a hard cover and the Hobonichi is a soft cover. The soft cover for me hasa such a pleasing feel in the hand. The hard cover feels more like a real book and maybe that mde it less "fun" .
I have no experience with the 5-year Hobonichi, but it's worth grabbing this year since it will be the last one with original tomoe river paper. I always have trouble getting into 2023 new books. I have grown fond of my 2022 companions.
I think the 5 years are really a matter of the paper preference. The hobo has the TRP I believe? The Midori has their signature paper which I adore just as much. Both are great for fountain pens. I recently got the Midori Hibino 2pages per day A6, and it has TRP which is nuts! Had to try it lol! I have the A5 Midori 1p1d with the Midori paper which I think I may prefer just a weeeeee bit
What tape runner are you using? I'd been using a Kyuoko one (I TOTALLY butchered the spelling lol) and it died on me mid spread last night 🤣 I liked it, but the one you're using looks just effortless! Is it the dot liner?
