If you want to know what Catholics truly believe, then ask a Catholic source, don't rely on what your lay pastor tells you. Catholics don't worship idols nor "worship" the Virgin Mary. We venerate her. She is the mother of Christ, the mother of God. If Christ is God, then the vessel, his mother, had to be immaculate. Christ is divine and could not be born of a sinful woman, this is why she is venerated, she is given singular grace from the Eternal Father. If you do not believe in this, why are you here....? The Catholic church is the one true church given to us by Jesus and handed down for the last 2000 years. There is only one "church". All other so-called churches are Christian lay communities. All protestants denominations are schismatic. You do not have the mass, and you do not have the sacraments of the church.
I am a Catholic and don't worship Our Lady, l honour Her as the Mother of God. As far as status, we pray in front of them cause they represent the saints. Don't you have a picture of a photo of your love one well it's the same as having a picture of statue of our Mother of God and the saints we pray to. God is not pleased to see his Mother mocked.
