Very cool! Have you considered adding landmarks like cities? Or maybe just a selection of little icons that you could place. Holy sites, historic battles, ports, forts that kind of thing? Even if it's just for headcannon. You'd suddenly have a nifty and easy-to-use mapmaking software. The DnD crowd is always looking for that stuff.
Maybe connected to the cards, like a "place city" card or "place religious site" card? Also a sandbox mode would be nice to make it more useable as a mapmaking tool.
The ability to place ports with a range on them could be cool. If you have a port you can expand to any landmass within its range even if the territory in non-contiguous. This could be the main way of expanding to islands or across seas. A port getting destroyed or blockaded could lead to the territory in its range becoming independent or taking a defense nerf so that territory could more easily be conquered by a foreign power. On the flip side you could destroy enemy ports to expand into their territory for a reduced expansion cost. A similar mechanic could be implemented with bridges to enable expansion across rivers. Non-contiguous territorial expansion should be impossible without one of these structures.
This reminds me of a game we used to play with my brother as kids. We basically took a sheet of paper, preferably a big one, and started drawing random continents and islands with rivers, lakes, mountains etc. Then each of us picked a spot for his capital city, from which we would draw roads, in turns, about 1 cm at a time. Or we could found a new city in places reached by roads, which would take 2 turns. Apart from roads we could also establish sea routes in the same way and reach new lands overseas. Wherever we came close to each other, we would draw a border. I think we could also 'upgrade' cities, which meant making the dot on the map bigger 😛 We created all these rules from scratch and called it 'The Senseless Game', as there wasn't really any way to win or lose, neither was the expansion restricted by any economic rules. The goal was simply to make a cool looking map with our nice little empires on it. The only restriction was drawing our stuff in turns, so neither of us would expand faster than the other. It was like 20 years ago or more, yet I still have fond memories of our little game and still remember all these rules. Maybe even some of our maps still survived stashed away somewhere.
This is amazing! I’ve played many, many, many map making games (Fantasy Sandbox and WorldBox) and after a while it feels like I’m just watching, not doing anything as I see a giant blob form. This game though, depends on the actions and decisions of the maker of the map! More than just dropping a giant crab or changing the temperature of the world, but deciding who are the players, what they’re doing, and the history of the world you make! Love it and I can’t wait! (Also, will there be a way to present deserts? I see that mountains and rivers are already here, but that way Egypt can’t become a superpower of the ancient world from the sands around it!)
Nice to see that I can do now in game what I used to do with pencil and paper. :) One thing I would recommend is to make borders between countries sharper, as sooner or later we will create many nations and some of them might get colors that are rather similar. Maybe you could make it so that border of territory is a line that uses color that no country can paint in (players could select what that color would be) to make it more clear? Also, I've noticed that if we use Unite card on the country we draw it for, that country will stay on the map, but will no longer be selectable. Plus, it would be great, if the strength of Expansion cards depended on the size of selected nation. It's a bit tiring having to use several Large Expansion cards just to conquer country one fifth of the size of my nation.
Okay, nvm... SO MANY SPLITS!?! I JUST WANT NICE BORDERS AHHHHHH!!! ... Maybe have more options? Like you can draw more than one card to play? That way we can avoid splitting one nation 5 times in a row... Also, I encountered a glitch that caused a whole nation to get dusted by clicking union their self.
Have you considered adding a color gradient to add depth to the ocean? Maybe similar colors to the base color you already have so the land is still the most obvious? Maybe for a naval update??? THIS IS SO COOL!!!
not even an hour into it and im having a blast. at the start there was a big empire, then there was a huge uprising, and in the heat of the civil war BOTH SIDES have their own civil wars. and all that tension in the alps
This looks cool af, I really like the map detail and the whole premise seems pretty cool. I wish you the best of luck with this, hoping it pans out cause I'd certainly be down to play.
okay, i just played it and i think it's good, got to turn 139 and just began making up all sorts of crazy historical events in my head as the game went on. i do think there's some issues with gameplay, but the game's in alpha so i don't mind that much. one thing i'd like to see is the ability to trade a union card for an expansion or new nation one. also, more freedom with drawing land; such as an eraser and a finalise button to decide when you're finished painting borders.
I'm definitely planning on making a map for the entire Earth, but that is a big time commitment, so I'm probably gonna save it for when I release the full finished game
Unless i'm missing a feature it would be really nice to be able to make the brush size smaller because sometimes i want to make a border exactly on the river and it just goes over.
There is a major issue with it. I consistently got 20 splits in a row, MANY times. Could you add an option to refuse a card? It's extremely aggravating.
Oh uhh I'm not sure. Whatever the trackpad equivalent of a scroll is maybe. I can definitely add some keyboard shortcuts for zooming in and out in the next update tho too lol
There's currently 5 maps in the game, and this is just the mediterranean map. I do plan to make an entire Earth map as well as others for the full game whenever I get to that point in development
Would be awesome to be able to skip a card, or have a sandbox mode where you can pick which card you get. Very cool though. Lag gets pretty bad far in though
hello do you have a guide to downloading the game? I'm not entirely sure what to do to download it and get it running, having a lot of issues in that department
You should be able to download the zip file on my itch.io page in the description, and then unzip it by right clicking on it and hitting extract. You should then be given a regular unzipped folder with the game inside it. Hope that helps
Wow this is a cool game, I'm really interested and want to play it but unfortunately I'm using a phone so I guess I'll stick to watching the gameplays instead, still I like the concept of the game and would definitely watch how your game going to update in the future through the videos.
This is absolutely perfect and I love the concept so much, but it hurts that I can’t down load it on mobile, I would love you to make it onto mobile eventually atleast, this game is too good to not be.
The concept certainly has potential, but I feel like there will eventually need to be a mechanic to balance the RGN of the cards. I feel like a game with all luck and no skill does get stale faster. What mechanic would that be? I'm not entirely sure. It'd have to be something that fits with the political aspect of the game, isn't random, but still preserves the games simplistic concept, depending on if you want to keep the game simple or not
Very interesting concept! Looks like I wasn't the only one that liked to draw fictional nations on pieces of paper when bored as a kid.
I'm still doing this
I did it on MS paint lol

Are you telling me that mapping just got easier than ever?
Holy smokes, absolute game changer on mapping.

I have been waiting years for this type of game to come out and you have done it! I love the idea and the way its implemented!
you could code something to prevent the same card from being drawn twice in a row that was its more randomized
or have it possible but at a really low chance
Very interesting can't wait to see any updates if you're planning to realizing any
Looks really cool! I've always wanted a game where the main focus is creating your own history. High hopes for the future:)
This is actually pretty damn cool, I'm excited to see how it develops.

That's the dream
Ages of conflict but you could play as one of the nations instead of just looking at them?
Very cool! Will it have a timelapse sort of mode where you can go back through the world's turns and see how it changed over time?
That is a feature I plan to add in the future
could you please add a whole earth map? I think pcs would handle it and it would be awesome :D

i can play this instead of doodling maps on my school assignments lol

Would there be a way to make ur nation power infinite or nah
You think there will be a full world map at some point?
I played it today and here is my feedback:
It's really fun! Only slight problem I have is that long ruler and nation names don't show up on the menu
this would be great for ai nations in rp games
Would be awesome to be able to skip a card, or have a sandbox mode where you can pick which card you get. Very cool though. Lag gets pretty bad far in though
hold up.. his cooking is this fire???
Please make a world map, like a map that encompasses the entire world

So um I have no idea why but it won't let me download, any ideas y'all?
When will this be out

how do I create a seperate nation from the original? I had a glitch where I only had one nation and it pulled the merge card that deleted everything
