    Your English is very easy to understand. Thank you for showing me how easy it is to tune various lengths of wire. It is also good to see you using 300 ohms twin lead into the adapter. Dave AF5U

    I'm going to buy this tuner as well. I read it tunes better than Yaesu's own FC-50. I'll be pairing it to my my new FT-891 and MFJ 20M mobile antenna. Mabuhay from 2E0HLD.

      Do you have trouble tuning your 891 and mAT30 on 20-meters?? There's a video on TH-cam showing a problem. Never an SWR better than 3:1.

    I love your test but you still have a mismatch at the antenna feed point... i suggest use open line feeders such as a ladder line which closely match or approach your antenna"s feed point impedance, a BalUn will also help 73s mabuhay

      Yes om Maglito you are very correct 👍🏻😊... the test was just to see the capability of the tuner to tune difficult antennas (sort of like torture testing it hihi) thats why I made the antenna that way hihi ✌🏻😅.. 73 and Happy New Year 🎉🎊😊

    Do you have to re-tune every time you change frequency ?

  • @warrennetherton6011

    Jay--I am lost on how you can tell if this is tuning or not or what your SWR is. Is a red light supposed to flash or something if it won't tune? You transmit a test signal and say it is working ok. Are you looking at an SWR meter not in the video? I stared at the video and I see the s meter but that appears to me to be the incoming signal strength. Is it supposed to say something like untuneable? I have an ft897, which is similar and am trying to figure this out? At one point you said it looks like the signal is flat. Please clarify.

    • @du7jay
      @du7jay  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hello Warren, i have set the meter on my 857 to show both the signal strength and SWR,. so you will see that when on RX the meter shows signal strength. After pressing the tune button with the MAT30 enabled on TX, you wont be able to see any movement on the meter scale, that means your SWR is flat.... in the event that you have a bad SWR as also shown on this video you will see the HSWR on the upper right side of the display which means high swr. i hope this helps. 73 de du7jay

    Hello Jay
    Just watched your video as I have got a FT-857D myself and I was very interested in your use of 300 ohms twin lead for the antenna and what I am also interested in as to what is the part number of this 300 ohms twin lead antenna adapter called that is going into the back of the FT-857 called I have seen this before but could not find out were to buy one from or it part number.
    Thank you for the video Jay it is well done 73/s.

    Hi, i have the mat30 with ft891 but can't get swr below 2 on certain frequencies while on others, i get nice swr 1.0
    I wonder if one ore more relays in the tuner is faulty or there is a problem in the tuning algorithm. No matter what, the tuner is unable to tune certain combinations of R and X values which should be well within specs.
    Does your tuner always produce swr within 1.2 or less? Mine gives almost 2 on some frequencies 😒

    • @du7jay
      @du7jay  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello OM,i am not an expert on this tuner, I just happened to own one hihi,... this is my experience.. we have to understand that every time we tune an antenna the tuner saves it on its memory, Im not sure the extent of data it stores in its memory all I know is it stores it there,.. when you tune another antenna on that same frequency or band that it has already stored in its memory it will revert to that data and give us a fast tune even the swr is not really flat 1.0 as what we wanted,... i guess the solution to this is to reset/ delete all stored data every time we change to a different antenna in order for it to start fresh every time it tunes,... hahah i don't know if this makes sense but this is just what I observe,. 73 and stay safe always,. de es du7jay.

    • @ondrejpovalac9811
      @ondrejpovalac9811 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@du7jay hi, thanks for your reply. I am aware of the memory tuning mechanism, however this can be overwritten by long press ot the TNR button which forces the tuner to perform full tuning cycle... yet, I get swr of 2.0 on some frequencies, not less... on other frequencies i get 1.0.... it almost looks like the tuner doesn't like certain combinations of Z=R+X
      Does your tuner always get you on swr 1.2 or less no matter what the frequency is? Mine doesn't.
      73, Ondrej

      @@ondrejpovalac9811 ...hello om,. Im using a 80m doublet with open line feed and the tuner seems to work fine with it.

    • @meulia

      @@ondrejpovalac9811 I got similar confusing problem once. In my situation, I guess there was some RF that might came from my too short coax that ruin the external SWR meter reading. In my case, the tuner itself was fine, and but the SWR indicator fooled me. I have been using MAT 30 for almost 2 years with Yaesu FT-891 without problems for dipoles and multiband en-fed antenna. All my antennas are resonant, but it is nice to have a dedicated tuner that is ready when needed. 73, Iwan, YDØRTA

    The manual is terrible, you have to figure it out yourself. Why does the Mat-30 Relay's click off after moving 10Kcs? the noise level drops, and you have to return to hear. How do you read SWR on an FT-857? I can't see that on your display. What Power Level do you run your FT-857 at with the Mat-30?

    JAY: There's a TH-cam video on the 891's with the accompanying mAT-30 tuner showing there's a problem tuning the duo on 20-meters. The SWR is never better than a 3:1 throughout the entire 20-meter band. I have the same rigs and experiencing the same problem. Have you noticed something like this on your rig??🤔
