Growing Gourds- Part 2

I want to craft with daisy gourds. If I dry them, cut them in half and clean them out, then coat them with polyurethane clear, will they last?

i live in vermont..and i grew some bird house gords and some got very large.....so i collected bout 35 gords..and i put them on a wooden skid..covered it with hay..placed all the gords on it...covered it with a tarp...my question is will they survive the winter and cure...???
