Best is an arbitrary term as it does not take into account varying factors that may modify another's experience in the equation differently to one's own. In my limited experience with online chess teachers I've come across three that stand out so far and each for different aspects of their personality and playstyle. Ben Finegold and Eric Rosen along with GingerGM compliment each other really well as their patterns of action are quite diverse and between them they cover many bases. Three must check out teachers for anyone new to online chess and instructional twitch streamers posting on TH-cam. Disclaimer: I still have much to learn so correct any errors I may have made and also point me in the right direction regarding consistent online teachers that others have found helpful please and thanks :)
I agree. I often struggle when they just give me opening and don't say anything about our objectives for the game. I imagine for most semi-decent players its obvious, but as an 800 rated new player, I find it very helpful if they lay out basic objectives to work towards. really orients me
I have just recently gotten back into chess after 20+ years. Back in the day, I used the London system as learned from the Andrew Soltis book. It's nice to see the system has evolved since then! I especially like this newest incarnation of the Jobava. Ginger is an absolute treasure in his solid teaching style! Thank You sir!
I'm a brand new player (about 2 months playing), and I've been trying to learn the london as my very first opening for white. Thanks so much for putting out such amazing content, I've learned so much!
This is a most rocking opening primer, another brilliancy of what I would call the British Chess School. I do not recall who once upon and long ago (with reference to the Najdorf/Scheveningen so-called "English Attack") coined the pun "It [the English Attack] is popular with the British because of its limited positional aims". Having once learned all the Sic Najdorf, the Modern Benoni and the KID from Dr. John Nunn's books I never considered it a "pun", but more guideline for how to approach opening theory - concrete, tactical and down to the point. @GingerGM is very much in line with that best practice. I salute thee, Simon (and recently bought your book about the "The Killer Dutch Rebooted")! Yours truly, Dee (/dou).
I don’t think I’ve ever commented on a video. Mainly because no one cares what I think about a video. But I have to say, I watched this video earlier today and implemented it into my games. I’m also a 1.d4 player and this is by far the easiest and most effective opening. I love how Simon talks about different lines that often is not discussed in other videos. Thanks Ginger GM!
Rule 1: Play d4 and Nc3 Rule 2: Against c5 Nb5 is good (e3 first, beware of Qa5+, secure knight with a4) Rule 3: Against Bf5 (copycat) play f3, g4 and h4 (Harry!!) Rule 4: After capture on d4 White can aim to castle queenside and attack Rule 5: e4 gambitting is fun (reverse Albin Countergambit)
I tried the pawn storm against Bf5 on lichess and it absolutely demolishes people. About the DVD: There is quite a bit of repetition - maybe a little too much, if you watch it in one sitting. However, for the first time after watching an opening series, I feel 100 % able to answer every black setup. Usually I have to go over the more complicated lines multiple times and refresh that knowledge from time to time. Not this time. So maybe the repetition served it's purpose after all and it's a sign of the simplicity of this opening.
I like Simon a lot - but this DvD is abysmal, very little explanation, often the justification for a complete defecit in material is 'Just play simple chess' and complex lines are rounded off, not with concrete analysis, but by nebulous phrases such as 'White just gets on with it and mates Black.' Lines do not concur with engine evaluations and I feel that the 'repetitions' you refer to are merely there to distract the viewer away from the utter lack of useful content. I think Simon is great, and I hope this DvD was just an oversight rather than something desperately pumped out for some money. I bought it to support Simon, but chess-wise... I'm not sure if I wouldn't have been able to produce that.
I brought it right away based on my extremely positive experience with the previous tour DVDs of The London System, Master method 1 and 2, Positional sacrifice. Thank you for your hard work.
Just started watching this guy yesterday. Amazing. Want to buy this course. Question for you: I'm only 1000 elo, would you recommend this or will it be to advanced? Really appreciate any advice, thank you.
It's probably irrelevant but your accent and Mr. Keith teaching ielts have sth in common, really clear, easy to understand but somehow very unique. Ty for such good content, my friend told me to play this as it's less played.
Been looking for variations in accelerated London system that were more fun and attacking. Didn't like all the variations you have to know playing E4, this is exactly the opening I've been looking for!
The London is very interesting for beginners because if offers a standard setup against almost everything black plays against. Now you know, we are going to need a longer game on the Jobava variation of the London System. 👀
12:38 the main line is actually Nc6, not Bg4. It is a more flexible move, not commiting the bishop too early in which case white gets a good game after h3.
hello simon. i've been watching your videos since january 2016, you and your videos helped me out of a massive depression i was in at the time. so thank you for that! any chance of a sale coming on anytime soon?
Pawnstorm. Bring it on! Let me tell you, I played against the 3... Bf5 system as you recommended. It went exactly as you suggested. My opponent was a young boy with very low rating compared to mine. He never thought more than a few seconds on the position. But easily defended himself. I finally got the breakthrough and Houdinin analyzed it as ~+2 for White (+/-), but the best case scenario was that I have 1 bishop against 2 pawns + 1 rook for each side. The worst case scenario that happened in my game is that my King found no rest at f2, and the black Queen and a rook infiltrated my 2nd row, and I lost. I never saw something like that a completely nervous wreck, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder kid easily defends himself against all the threats. Let me say: Nb5 is nice, but again, futile, and the pawn storm... just losing the place where my king hides taken that he never castled. So, I am puzzled.
Jobava London rocks. gets your opponent off balance every time and has so many attacking possibilities. thanks for the great video. I might buy the 'Day Vay Day' :)
Hi, GM Ginger. I DO LOVE your job. You teach a very aggressive chess from MOVE 1.. I thing you are one of the BEST CHESS TEACHE IN THE WORLD. You Rules are fantastic to remember and your videos are very useful and FUNNY! !Only a thing. At min 7 20'' after 1 d4 Nf6 2. Nc3 d5 3.Bf4 c6 4.e3 e6? 5.Nb5 Na6 6.c3 Nd7, you recommend 7,Bd3. But after 7...c4 may be White loses a piece because Bishiop can't defend Knight. It is possible? Probably I was wrong somewhere.
Thanks for another instructive video! I've also watched your previous youtube videos (london and your black lion videos) and they've all been fun to watch and are very helpful!
As a new chess player I started playing this and didnt even know what it was called 🤣🤣🤣 all i knew was that when i started playing it whenever given the opportunity my elo went from 250 to 650 in about a day lmao. Glad i found a video showing me some middle game lines, thanks for all your help!!!
great introduction, great way to teach the ideas in an understandable way. Fun included. Even with virtually no time at my hands, I think this will soon be my first invest into improving my chess.
hello ginger I like your videos especially how to play the london system. I would like to buy one of your courses but as I do not understand English very well my question would be if these videos can be subtitled in Spanish .
Simon, in your previous video about 1. d4 Nf6 2. Bf4 g6, you indicated that White's primary middlegame idea is to play on the queenside (via moves like Ne5, Be2, and g4, especially if Black has played h5), which makes perfect sense. However, in the position at 6:39, Black has not made committal queenside moves, so such a strategy would be less effective. I would probably aim for an eventual e4 advance in that position, but what do you think? Thanks a ton.
Seems like a great opening, but I often think about what would happen if nf6 would start chasing after bf4. I mean, black's pawn structure would end up being a mess, but black can just castle queen's side and just keep on with the attack. Of course I'm missing something. That's the sole purpose of this comment
Had to buy the download, now, as an inexperienced player, I'm sure this will help me improve my game. Excellent explanations in this video, looking forward to the rest. Any recommendation for something similar from black's side?
Ginger GM is the best teacher of openings, because he teaches the middle game plans for the openings he covers!

@@ninetynine1237 I agree -- I'd add that John Bartholomew can be a good resource as well
Imo it's because they want you to buy their course. Glad I've found this channel today. 1st video I'll be watching. Really looking forward to it

Chess is the biggest rabbithole of all time! Great video.
"A knight on the rim is dim, where can the knight go? Nowhere." Brilliant yet comical quotes by GingerGM!!

I am honestly just buying the DVD because you provide so much free content.
Haven't watched GingerGM in ages, I'd forgotten how great he is
Rule 1: Play d4 and Nc3
Rule 2: Against c5 Nb5 is good (e3 first, beware of Qa5+, secure knight with a4)
Rule 3: Against Bf5 (copycat) play f3, g4 and h4 (Harry!!)

I picked up the London just a while ago and this really helped me, great great video
I showed this Jobava London System at my Chess Club last night and quite a few like the it! Keep up the good work Simon.
This guy's awesome man!!! Love his attacking strategies... very much the way I prefer myself!
I tried the pawn storm against Bf5 on lichess and it absolutely demolishes people.

Yeah lol I got owned by this push in 2022..
I just love your enthusiasm. It is infectious. I am enjoying using the Jobava!
GM Williams is a very good teacher...i bought his BF4 London system at ChessBase shop and it is awesome. Keep the good work.
The opening to these videos is the most epic opening found on TH-cam. PERIOD. It is not even open for discussion.
You have a great talent for padding your presentation with excess verbiage. You have a great career in writing school essays.
I actually thought he conveyed a lot of ideas in a short 20min span, and did so with a lot of character. Rather enjoyed the video.
You’re excellent at leaving a first virtual impression as an unlikeable person
It's probably irrelevant but your accent and Mr. Keith teaching ielts have sth in common, really clear, easy to understand but somehow very unique. Ty for such good content, my friend told me to play this as it's less played.

Wow GM... I haven't watched you in a few weeks and just thought of refresher on the London and hey presto!
Just bought the digital download, looking forward to watching it!
Wow , Gingergm is the first suggestion when you enter 'ginger' on YT , even ahead of Gingerbread Man
I love this guy and his videos, he's a really chess maniac.
Finally I found the name of the opening I use!!! I was going insane and starting to think I invented d4 nc3 bf4
Love it! Looking for another London-type opening. Subscribed!
This has honestly given me over 100 ratings points - thanks so much. It's incredibly useful

love it so much. bought! It's also a steal for 20 bucks if you compare it to what others charge for their videos!
14:07 is my favorite moment of any chess video ever "Are you any locos?"
"Maybe you have lifes or jobs outside of chess" -- I wish!
Always so instructional - thanks Simon! Love your playing style 🌪💥🔥
hello simon. i've been watching your videos since january 2016, you and your videos helped me out of a massive depression i was in at the time. so thank you for that! any chance of a sale coming on anytime soon?
*Lazy is Good, let's not fool ourselves* :)
thats my cousin in the profile pic, hey kamau ulipotelea wapi bana?
Simple fundamentals hard to go wrong with those
"Lazy is good, lets not fool ourselves"
GODLIKE
I love this opening. So quick!
Courses are great I’m loving the black lion course that I bought! Seriously considering buying this one as well
Watched the whole video but it still seems unclear whether there is any additional information, maybe on a DVD or so .... :-D
Your breakdown is very helpful for me
Pawnstorm. Bring it on! Let me tell you, I played against the 3... Bf5 system as you recommended. It went exactly as you suggested. My opponent was a young boy with very low rating compared to mine. Gerhard Symons do you have any idea how fucking cursed this comment is

I am from Georgia and thank you GInger
🤪Very "loco" London playing! Thank you!🤘
Love this one. Since I'm using London System in Blitz.
Hello, thank you for the wonderful video's. At 7:20, what if they play ...c4, possibly followed by ...Bd7?
Incredible detail. New sub here. Ty
Thanks for another instructive video! I've also watched your previous youtube videos (london and your black lion videos) and they've all been fun to watch and are very helpful!
Thank you for a great, well presented and informative video
Everybody loves JOBAVA
I dont do downloads well but if it ever comes out in book or cd form I will most certainly buy it.
As a new chess player I started playing this and didnt even know what it was called 🤣🤣🤣 all i knew was that when i started playing it whenever given the opportunity my elo went from 250 to 650 in about a day lmao. Glad i found a video showing me some middle game lines, thanks for all your help!!!
my opponent just played this against me, and i go on youtube and find this video...coincidence? i think not
gingerminati
Many thanks, GM Simon Williams.
I do think having already learned the main line London opening I would like to get this to give me another option another opening to attack
I love this. Thanks
you are a gd teacher thanks i have a chess comp and i have been trying the London but it still beats me lol
Great video. I'd love to hear more about how to play the London vs opponents who castle queenside.
Purchased, will try in Bunratty :)
I loved that comment "those busy people with a life outside of Chess", ha ha.
Very instructive video.
Winning with this opening is as satisfying as the DVD logo hitting the corner
This is when ginger goes crazy posting video every day
Excellent content here
Simon - I do hope that we will see you stream some Jobava games so we can see you stand by this course in action :-)
Awsome Simon. I'm getting this now. Hope you give something against the benoni also.
Great video thanks GingerGM
Me gustaría tener este curso en español,sería genial.....el ataque jobava es interesantísimo.
Saludos desde Lima maestro.
Greetings from Perú
I"m ordering it now!!!
thanks for ur great effort very nice video indeed!
To the people saying that this is just the Veresov with Bf4 instead of Bg5 - is the Ruy Lopez then just the Guico Piano with Bb5 instead of Bc4?
Just bought the deeveedee! Can’t wait to watch it
Bloody legend, thanks mate!
great introduction, great way to teach the ideas in an understandable way. Fun included. Even with virtually no time at my hands, I think this will soon be my first invest into improving my chess.
thank you for this opening
Is there a DVD that goes into this in more detail? I didn't quite catch whether there was a corresponding 6 hour video.
7:23 why does black not play Bishop to d7 to try and get rid of the knight on b5?
You got a new sub
Release more DVDS! We will buy :D
hello ginger I like your videos especially how to play the london system. I would like to buy one of your courses but as I do not understand English very well my question would be if these videos can be subtitled in Spanish .

I like the plans! Will put it practice a.s.a.p.
I like it even more that you will visit Amsterdam. When are you coming over? ;)
I though for about 3 milliseconds before buying this. Absolute must buy.
e4 blows my mind
What you play after d4 d5 Nc3 Nf6 Bf4 e6 e3 Bb4 ?
Video starts at 1:54 :)
Dear Ginger, it's the ALBIN (not Albian) counter gambit. Cheers
Seems like a great opening, but I often think about what would happen if nf6 would start chasing after bf4. Hi Simon, I was looking at some of Jobava's games and came across the one against Anand where he lost. I was wondering if you could evaluate strategies for white after a novelty (not sure) at move 11. for white to play Bxb5 instead of 0-0 that Jobava played. Thank you. You rock Sir.
