This isn’t that nice. Men act like it’s a surprise or unusual accomplishment when women aren’t one dimensional. Like you don’t say all this to men. You just leave comments about the content. And eloquence and whatnot is a potentially ableist and bias filled take. No one is less intellectual if they have a condition altering speech or a vernacular like AAVE which some great American writers wrote in. I’m just being honest about a common topic among women-as one myself-that comes up in a academia, social media, our personal friend groups, and studies from researchers for years now. It’s more respectful to just engage with us like normal people(men just get comments on books and not annoying recommendations to read the same five men either-comment sections are a tragedy at times)
I am impressed by the selection of books here. Since you mentioned that Cat still finishes books she does not particularly enjoy, maybe an episode about this? Or your pet peeves in books? I love all conversations about books; bring it on! 🥰
Finally! Filipino celebs who talk and vlog about books! Please read Kristin Hannah's The Four Winds and Ruta Sepetys works if you want more war-related books with women as the main characters. :)
Seven Days in June and The Nightingale are so good! Try reading A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara, The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah, The Guest List by Lucy Foley, Behind Her Eyes by Sarah Pinborough, Dark Matter by Blake Crouch, Razorblade Tears by S.A Cosby
The Push, Tomorrow, Tomorrow and Tomorrow, The Nightingale and The Great Alone wow, I’ve read them and I couldn’t agree more with you ladies. Great selection❤
I'm thrilled to know that you both liked the book “The Nightingale”that was one of my favorite reads😊, looking forward to all your book recommendations as an ardent reader like myself❤
I super love this episode. Nowadays, i rarely meet people who love reading. I feel like i found two new friends through you! More book contents soon! ♥️♥️♥️♥️
I love reading mystery/thriller books too! Patricia Cornwell and John Grisham are some of the authors that I explored in that genre. Their case and environment depiction are so spot on. There's also a John Grisham novel where three prisoners take control of the plot. I already forgot the titles since the books are in a different location at the moment. 😅 You might want to check them out.
The Nightingale is one of my fav books! I always recommend that as well to friends. I also read The Great Alone early this year which prompted me to buy more Kristin Hannah books. I also highly recommend The Night Circus (probably my fav book that I’ve read in my adulthood). I love how the writing induced my imagination with the writing.
@@NicoleCordoves I loved The Nightingale more maybe because it was from an era that I am not familiar. War time is hard to imagine and this book was good in setting the scene and struggles of that time period.
Some book recommendations that you might be interested to read: Americanah by Chimamanda; First Woman by Jennifer Makumbi; The Handmaid's tale and The Testaments by Margaret Atwood; Pachinko by Min Jin Lee; The Mountain Sing and The Dust Child by Nguyen Phan Que Mai 😍
love this episode...please make it a regular...and would love if you both could have a book club with fans...like a certain book for a month....it would be enjoyable putting on the comments about reactions, quotes and stuff...
I actually have "The Nightingale" at my bookshelf, but have yet to read it. Thanks to this, I might start reading it as well. I do hope it ends well *gulp*
I recommend self-help book po-like atomic habits, 7 habits of highly effective people, The subtle way of not giving a fuck and many more. I'm more fond to these books po and it was really helpful for me, having quarter life crises 😅. I hope, these will add to your book lists po. ❤
kristin hannah never dissapoints talaga, i super love the great alone, the push also is a good read! seven days in june is already in my tbr! napansin ko lang si cat thriller addict din hehe
I recommend a Kindle for portability of reading books :) You guys made me want to read more books after watching your vlog. Maybe it will get me out of my slump. Hope to see more videos like this
Love this episode i remember suring College days mahilig talaga ako mag basa now at nagwowork na ako bibihira na. Pero watching these two empowering women parang gusto ko na uli buklatin un mga books ko na inaamag na sa shelf ko.
Try kindle! I was in a reading slump for over 10 years that I thought I had quit for good. But I was gifted a kindle. It has then reignited my love for reading.
I really love this episode! More of this please. I was soo focused listening to every detail of your book recos and it got me interested to read The Push, Great Alone and Virgin Suicides. I love themes discussing the realities of being human - the good, the bad and the gray area. If you have time, you can both enjoy The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov (Alma Classics/Penguin Classics). It is about the devil who visited Moscow wrecking havoc among the literary elite who are full of themselves. This read's not to be taken too seriously since it is downright outrageous, funny, whimsical (to a point where some of the parts dont make sense at all) but spiritually enlightening. It is definitely a roller coaster ride! Other recos: Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver - social issues Motherthing by Ainslie hogarth - disturbing and psychological The Secret History by Donna Tartt - psychological and dark Hoping for a book club/community led by Nicole and Cat. Enjoy 😊❤
Luv luv thissss!! Really appreciate and support local book clubs (as the few of it we have). Thank you for empowering reading and being an inspo to so many! I wonder reading to all youth in the ph would do.
Hi, Nicole & Cat! You might also want to check out Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty, Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides, White Oleander by Janet Fitch and Bag of Bones by Stephen King. Happy reading! 📚
@@NicoleCordoves falling leaves was the second English book I’ve read. The first one was her book as well, Chinese Cinderella, the prequel of Falling leaves. No wonder these women are beyond eloquent and intellectual. The long-term practice of wide reading really reaps all the fruits of acquired wisdom.
Agreed
