Best way to read TMI/TID:
City of Bones (TMI #1)
City of Ashes (TMI #2)
City of Glass (TMI #3)
Clockwork Angel (TID #1)
Clockwork Prince (TID #2)
Clockwork Princess (TID #3)
City of Fallen Angels (TMI #4)
City of Lost Souls (TMI #5)
City of Heavenly Fire (TMI #6)
your thrift stores are a million times better than mine. The ones in my area only seem to receive cookbooks from the seventies, tom clancy, and spanish romance novels
for the mortal instruments/infernal devices, it is best to read them in this order:
City of Bones
City of Ashes
City of Glass
Clockwork Angel
Clockwork Prince
Clockwork Princess
City of Fallen Angels
City of Lost Souls
City of Heavenly Fire
I totally recommend those series because they are amazing! Also Cassandra Clare just came out with the first book of a new series from the shadow world called Lady Midnight and I totally recommend reading that too because all of those books are amazing!!
The Infernal Devices series IS written in a different timeline however as you read on with TMI series quite a few references are made about TID and it also helps you to understand things about Magnus Bane's past, Jace's family history and Shadowhunter history in general. I read TID after TMI and I regretted it because I didn't understand any of the TID references and felt like I really missed out on those "HA!" moments, so you are on the right track :)
Added you in Goodreads! :) Shadow of the Wind is one of my faves.
"The knife of never letting go" by Patrick Ness is just amazing! I read it few years ago when literature teacher reccommened it to me. I think you will enjoy every minute of reading! :)
Read the Shadowhunters series as they were published. I also recommend getting the Bane Chronicles.
Can I just say that I love that you've made a book channel? Because I do. I might've squealed a little when you announced it
That was basically my reaction too haha
Yes! Read Cassandra Clare's books in the order they published! It adds a whole new layer to both of them that's totally worth the extra effort. (Love Will Herondale so much!) Also, the Lunar Chronicles were AWESOME books! My personal favorite was Cress and the end of Winter.
Thanks for that tip! I've read the first book two years ago and I wanted to read the other books, but I just had so many other books to read that I just didn't get to it and I probably would have read them in a completely wrong order 🙈
I'll definitely do that! I'm excited to see where the series go! :)
Totally agree about Will Herondale (and reading them in that order)
Bird Box and You are two of my favorite books that I read this year! I think you'll enjoy those...
The Thursday Next series by Jasper Fforde is about an alternate universe and the main character is a literary detective who finds out she can go inside novels. Soooo good. Also if you are looking for horror check out The Passage by Justin Cronin, kinda like The Strain series by Guillermo del Toro but less gory.
I read Gone Girl before the movie came out and it was 1000% better than the movie. it has some slow bits but the suspense is there
Hey Emily! Arrived here from your first channel because I love books and I really like you! Hope this channel grows as much as the beauty one, you deserve it xx
Thank you :)
The Black Prism is amazing! Hope you enjoy it. 😊
I'm really excited to read it! For some reason I've been pushing back reading big Fantasy series I know I will love!
The shadow of the wind is THE BOOK 😍 I read it in Spanish and I fell in love with it! everyone should read it!!!
Ready Player One is soooo good! Gone Girl is definitely worth the read too!
I'm so excited about this channel. Only thing I love as much as makeup hauls are book hauls!!!!
I've been dying to read it!! :D
Cassandra Clare has a reading order on her website! But I think it's the 3 first TMI books, then TID, then the last 3 TMI books! Then Lady Midnight, of course
Good! :)
City of Glass is where the series starts getting really amazing :) Also, the Lunar Chronicles is one of my favorites! Cress and Winter (the last book) are so good and breathtaking!
I was on Amazon adding books to my cart as I watched this. A couple of things...
+ re: Cassandra Clare books: I would read one series at a time (in order): The Mortal Instruments or The Infernal Devices.
+ The Storied Life of A. J. Fikry: A Novel and Cake Face are free on Kindle Unlimited if you have Amazon Prime.
Gone girl is definitely worth the read, the film was alright in comparison.
Emily, you need to read Outlander!! It's amazing!
I read the Mortal Instruments/Infernal Devices series' in the way you said (first 3 mortal instruments, then 3 infernal devices, then carried on the mortal instruments) and I liked reading them that way. My boyfriend read them before me and he recommended doing it that way and I liked it. I found that reading the first few MI books made the ID books easier to understand, and then there are references to the ID books in the following MI books that I loved because the ID books were fresh in my mind). Sorry if this comment made no sense I'm tired haha
love your book haul , so curious to see the reviews for some of the books.
BTW for the mortal instruments you should read them in the order that have been published (I did not know that and first I marathon through the mortal instruments and then I read clockwork series and I was spoiled a lot)
I just finished everything everything and it was amazing! I don't read YA very often but I'm so glad I made and exception for this one.
My most recent historical fiction was The Tiger Queens: The Women of Genghis Khan by Stephanie Thornton. It was so well written and paced. It was fantastic!
I haven't really wandered into booktube too much (chapterstacks is one of the few booktubers I follow) but love your beauty channel and so glad I checked you out here! Screenshotted (is that a word?) a bunch of titles to check out, am currently reading AJ Fikry, and LOVED Mistborn - actually recommended by my husband! So glad to find a new booktuber to follow here and on goodreads! xoxo
I can't wait to read them all!! :)
If you have not read it one of my favorite suspense/horror/mystery books Night Film by Marisha Pessl. Its about journalist who is trying to find out why the daughter of a cult film maker died. Its one of those books that stays with you for a long time after you finish it.
Night Games by Richard Laymon is actually one of the most disturbing but best books I´ve ever read! I just love the story and it just doesnt get boring because very creepy and exciting things keep on happening! I really recommend you to read it, it has the most shocking plot twist... gosh.
Also: I just love that you started to booktube because I´m always looking for good booktubers to watch and I´ve always loved your videos!
If you're looking for books under 200 pages you need to check out Mitch Albom, he's one of my favourite authors, he wrote Tuesdays with Morrie which is probably his most known book. For shorter books of his The Five People you Meet in Heaven is a great one, and even though it's pretty long you need to read The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto. Seriously, these books changed my life, all of them are funny but deeply moving at the same time.
Great haul! I haven't read this book yet, but based on the concept and the types of books you like, I think you'd probably really enjoy Smoke by Dan Vyleta.
Also, there's a new-ish app called Litsy that is like Instagram and Goodreads combined. It's a super fun, supportive community, and I think you'd have fun with it! (I'm kind of obsessed!)
Ember in the ashes was so good!! And the remedy was good, just a little strange!
I have the same mistborn set as you and even though the covers aren't as pretty as the UK edition, they're super floppy and the spine doesn't break, unlike the uk version which is a lot more stiff!
That's a good point!
Some of these books look so good! I'm not a big historical fiction fan, but I loved Between Shades of Gray! Also, I read A Darker Shade of Magic off of your recommendation and oh my goodness I LOVED it! I can't wait to continue the series and read more from V.E. Schwab! Her writing style is just so unique and amazing! :)
It's so hard to explain but her writing is just... wow! :)
Yay I love this!! My sis and I are watching this video together 💙
love love love the shadow of the wind, you must read the trilogy, great
Your picks looked soo good! Love the new channel, the idea and everything. Love u Emily ❤️
Thank you :)
To really enjoy Cassie Clare's books you should read the first three book in the Mortal Instruments, then the Infernal Devices trilogy and then the last three books of the MI series.
The Mortal Instruments Series is SO fantastic! They get so much better the further you get. Def one of my all time favorite series' And Living dead Girl is also a fantastic read
I just hauled "You", but I think I'm gonna save it until October!
We're all going to read it in October! I hope it's as good as everyone says :)
It is!
Great book!!
I have a thing about deckle edges too. Lol I know tons of ppl who love that that feature on books. I listened to YOU by Caroline Kepnes and it was the creepiest thing ever!!!!! I think you will really enjoy it. Great book haul!
My friend recently recommended Everything Everything to me, I haven't started it yet but I'm excited to see what you think of it!
and since you're reading creepy books, you should check out Choker by Elizabeth Woods (or at least read a summary) - it's deceptively straightforward but the ending freaked me tf out and STILL weirds me out years later haha
Thats a great collection! Happy Reading :)
I read Infernal Devices before Mortal Instruments and liked/understand it fine.
THEY ARE BOTH SO AMAZING
ooooh I am so stoked you're doing book tube stuff! I actually work in a Coles bookstore so I literally live for this stuff :P
The Rest Of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness's wonderful!! I loved the concept of the book and I thought it was wonderfully written :) and its a staff pick of mine!
The Remedy by Suzzane Young is AMAZING. 10000x better than the original series. I hope you like it!
For the mortal instruments (I am a massive fan and may have staff picked it...) I recommend reading books 1-5 first, then read the Infernal Devices trilogy (clockwork angel, clockwork prince and clockwork princess) THEN read the 6th book in the mortal instruments (city of heavenly fire) A pretty large majority of the book community agrees that Infernal devices trilogy is the current best thing Cassandra Clare has written and I agree as well. The reason I'd read it like that is because the infernal devices DOES tie back into the main series of Mortal instruments but you don't really see a huge tie in until the 6th book in mortal instruments and OMG everything suddenly becomes SO clear. (it also really helps you lay some ground work for her new series thats a spin off of mortal instruments which is called Lady Midnight (The Dark Artifices) and that book is wonderful.
Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon was a good book. I enjoyed it and the ending actually threw me a little bit tbh. I hope you enjoy it!
I would love to recommend more books to you to read! but I feel like I have way too many to put into an already insanely long comment like this, so I sent you a friend request on GoodReads. Hopefully talk to you there!
Happy reading ^_^
Feel free to leave as many insanely long comments as you want ;)
I'll definitely read them in that order then!
I enjoyed the Cassandra Claire books, like a cuppa of hot cocoa rather than a nice strong cup of java~
Deb InPEI ii
I think you'd probably really like A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro. Really cool premise: 2 teens, who are actual descendants of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson, get together to solve a murder that happens at their boarding school.
I've been looking for "Everything, Everything" on Bookoutlet forever!
Hopefully it will be there again soon! They get new things everyday :D
Just found your videos & I am obsessed! I love Shades of Grey! So good! :) Love your videos! x
If you're looking for a scary-ish type book for October I really recommend Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter! Also what lipstick are you wearing?! It's gorgeous :)
It's the ELF Matte Lip Color in Tea Rose :)
I had no idea Value Village has books!!!! I think I only went there once when I was a teen but now that I know they have books I need to go!!!! I'm so happy you're doing this book channel! By the way I can't stand when books have those raw edges either!!!!
Girl run there! Some are better than others but I've been pretty lucky so far! Their books are max 4.99 but then when you buy 4 the 5 one is free so the max you'll pay is 4$ each!!! :D
I tend to review new adult, women's fiction, and romance and since you said you're not a fan of instalove I think you'd really like Mud Vein by Tarryn Fisher. It's very different from other new adult books. It does have love within the story, but what makes it unique is that it's about the grittier side of love--it's not a love story, but it's about love. If that makes any sense.
It's in my top 2 favorite books.
If you ever need recommendations within new adult or women's fiction, I'd be more than happy to help you out (:
Feel free to leave as many suggestions as you want... can never have too many :P
You should definitely read Gone Girl before watching the movie, the book is amazing! It's one of my favorites :)
You should check out some of Jorge Luis Borges's short stories, he can get you more tangled in a fantasy world in five pages than a lot of authors can in 500! I think "Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius" is probably one of his best known ones and there are pdfs online. His stories really play with your sense of trusting the authority of the author to be true, it's really unnerving.
You should check out Tarryn Fisher! All of her books are great! ❤️
If you like fantasy books, you HAVE to read Robin Hobb. she's my favorite author. You have to read her books by order though, start with Assassin's Apprentice. There are currently 15 books that are connected to each other (and another trilogy that isn't, "soldier's son". Didn't like that one as much). You won't regret it! Brandon Sanderson is awesome too, and really good with releasing new stuff. Read his Wax and Wayne books next, they continue in the same world as Most born.
"mistborn", sorry.
I have a couple of her book on my TBR but I need to get to them soon!
+LifewithEmilyFox great hope you enjoy them! make sure you read them in order of publication, there are major spoilers! 😉
living dead girl is so good! i read it all in 3 hours in the middle of the night. so. good.
I couldn't put it down... I was just... shocked!
Wolf In White Van was spectacular
I read all Colleen Hoover's books, and it was amazing, they're all amazing.
Awesome book haul! I read salt to the sea by Ruta Sepetys and it was soo good! I'm currently reading the first book in the mistborn trilogy :D I definitely felt the same way about Cinder, but I heard the series gets better! Everything Everything was really good. I am very interested in You, I hope you love it. YES OMG I HATE DECKLED EDGES! IT IS THE WORST. YESSSS AN EMBER IN THE ASHES! JUST FINISHED IT AND LOVED IT SO MUCH!
That's the word I was looking for (Deckled) It's so annoying!!
I need to read it ASAP!
Book buying is just as addictive as buying makeup! 📚💄❤️
Definitely! Especially when you find good deals :P
Shadow of the wind is one of my all-time favourite books!
I read the first three Mortal Instruments books and wasn't all too keen on the characters but loved the world, so I can't wait to hear your thoughts on the Clockwork Angel book! =)
Oh, and regarding Gone Girl; I enjoyed the characters and the way the book was written more than the plot necessarily, I definitely recommend giving it a read!
Armada - I think I'm in the minority on that... I really liked it! If you like it, try "Ender's Game".
Red Rising - one of my fave trilogies! Even my mom marathoned it.
VE Schwab - "Vicious". Omg, I love.
You - I'm waiting until October to read it.
What readathon are you doing? I'm participating in one with a similar theme for this month.
I've read Ender's Game! I like the beginning but the ending went a bit weird lol
It's "A year a thon" readathon of the month! :)
I am so glad you started this new channel..!!
Me too :D
You should read salt to the sea by ruta sepytus....it's really good
I almost died when I saw the Mortal Instruments books! I didn't real the other books but those are GOOD! 💙
If you want a good fantasy series.. read the Black Jewels trilogy by Anne Bishop! There's more books about the same world, with the same characters that are not necessarily dependent on each other. If that makes sense?? Living Dead Girl is sad but good too ;)
And I have to say that I LOVE that you started a book channel! You can just see your excitement and that's something I can relate to soooo much!
Thanks for some ideas, keep them hauls coming! Have you ever read anything from Stephen King or Dean Koontz? If you like scary with a mixture of weird and twisted psychology here and there you will like them! I've loved their books since I was about 12 (so 20 years now!) Xxx
Never but I've been wanting to read some Stephen King (any idea which one I need to try?) and will check Dea Koontz out! :)
I second that! I love Dean Koontz! He must be crazy for the creepy things he comes up with and he has SOOOOO many great ones!
LifewithEmilyFox I was never disappointed with anything from King or Koontz but here are some of my favourites:
King - Misery, Salem's Lot, Christine, The Dark Half, The Stand, It, The Shining, Insomnia and all his short stories
Koontz - Demon Seed, The Funhouse, Night Chills, The Husband, Watchers, Phantoms, Tick Tock, The Mask, Dragon Tears...
Andrea Belec Exactly!
Awesome haul!!
So many books 💕
Where do you normally thrift your books? I never seem to find any good...
I highly recommend Colleen Hoover books they're amazing!
Have you read The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss? My cousin gave it to me and I had no idea what it was about and then I found myself completely absorbed in it for 8 straight hours yesterday lol
+Samantha Michaels I really want to read it but people have been waiting for the third one for 6 years lol I'll wait until there's a release date :p
+LifewithEmilyFox oh lol I didn't even know. Not as bad as the wait for the 6th game of thrones book though
+Samantha Michaels I also just realized you mentioned name of the wind in this video LOL I guess I got distracted since I was washing my makeup brushes while watching ;P
I have read almost all of Colleen Hoover's books and my favorite definitely is Hopeless or Maybe Someday. DEFINITELY read maybe someday. Confess is also really good.
Will do :)
wow. I would love to buy that many books! enjoy dear
I just found your book channel!
First, I do recommend Gone girl, I read it after watching it and I still liked it a lot, it's too interesting to be dissappointing.
About The Shadow of the Wind, I read it when I was like 14-15 and I had a huge book-crush on Carlos Ruiz-Zafón, read all of his books (I'm spanish) and after a couple... they're almost all the same and get boring, he just describes a lot and says not so much. If you liked The Shadow of the Wind I really recommend not continuing with the series (I hated the second part and didn't continue) and not really reading the rest of his books. Maybe The Prince of the Mist. It's a bit more juvenile but I liked it a lot. Marina is also good but it's just The Shadow of the Wind for teenagers.
I have yet to watch the rest of your videos, but since you said you like Fantasy, have you already considered reading The Name of the Wind, by Patrick Rothfuss? It's one of my favorite books if not the one, I can read it again and again without getting tired!
Also The Elegance of the Hedgehog, by Muriel Barbery, is another one I can read one time after another and not get tired. The original language is french, btw!
I hope my taste in books matches yours as finely as it does about lipsticks! :)
read the mortal instruments series first, then the infernal devices and then read the dark artifices :) amazing amazing books
If you're looking for a good historical fiction you should pick up Prisoner of Night and Fog. It's set during WW2 and it's a story about Hitler's niece and a whole mystery surrounding Hitler and her father and there's also some YA situations involving a young Jewish journalist. :D
The Mistborn series is pretty good, but I just didn't love it. I can't exactly put my finger on why. I hope you enjoy them though and all of your other awesome books. I think it is so cool that a beauty TH-camr reads it makes you more relateable for sure :) If you are taking suggestions I suggest One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez! It's amazing!!!
Honestly even though I do beauty videos (and love it) I just don't see myself as a "beauty guru" but just a normal girl trying to help out others choose which products they should try next haha
I'll definitely add that book to my TBR :)
LifewithEmilyFox Thanks for replying I love both of your channels so much :) and you won't regret it if you read it
I recommend The Archived by V.Schwab! :)
I want to read it but I'm confused. Is the third book out or not? :S
Aw, unfortunately not yet. I'm just satisfied with book1 so I don't mind not completing them. :D
You should read The Collector by John Fowles. It`s pretty disturbing...haha
i'm so excited that you're doing book tube videos now!! yay!! i know you said you don't like romance, but the vampire academy series is sooo good! i know it sounds lame, but TRUST me the story is amazing. just give it a go and tell us what you think :)
The covers have always made me stay away but I'll give it a shot :)
Please do.! It's one of my favorite series :D
omg right!! the covers at first totally made me not want to buy them, but then my friend recommended the series to me and i ended up LOVING it! also keep in mind that, just like the mortal instruments, the first book isn't the best of the series :)
I like to read love stories but I dislike reading instalove stories, if that even makes sense. but anyway, the point is, Colleen Hoover is really good at it. It's not the love story itself that will make you like her books it's everything surrounding that story that will make you love it. PS: you should read It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover. One of her best book so far. My favorite by her is Maybe Someday. And also, I recommend you read books by Stephen King. He's amazing!
This is probably an obvious rec but Stephen King for horror! I read Salem's Lot recently which has vampires. Carrie, It, and The Shining are all classics if you haven't read those. Your channel is making me want to buy books which is terrible because my shelf is full & the library is right down the road 😩
I haven't read any of his books! I need to finally do it :D
Hey Em!
I am seriously LOVING this new channel and I am making lists as I go! If you want an amazing fantasy series that is fully completed you should read "The Wheels of Time" by Robert Jordan (he died and it was completed by Brandon Sanderson). It is 14 (massive) books and once you get into it you will be a diehard fan as I am sure thousands (including myself lol) are.
I've heard of it! 14 books though... :P
Did you get all these books at the thrift store? My thrift store only has really old books
Either thrift store or bookoutlet online!
Wow you got great deals!!
Oh. My. God. So many books! I'd forgotten how few books I can get here in my country.
I think I'll join your readathon though... Sounds fun and will help get my tbr a bit smaller.
I would really recommend you, if you want to start reading Colleen Hoover, to begin with either her Slammed trilogy or Maybe Someday standalone... Even reading Hopeless instead of Ugly Love, while I love all the books by her I've read I'd say Ugly Love isn't a favorite. And if you don't gravitate towards romance reads mmmm then I think the others I mentioned would maybe leave a better impression on you so you try more contemporary reads afterwards. :)
I didn't realize until recently that I could buy books for much cheaper than I thought and it's life changing! My library really sucks but thrifting, bookdepositary and bookoutlet are my life now :P
+LifewithEmilyFox years ago a blogger and myself made a campaign so that book depo would ship to our country. It was an awesome experience when they got back to us letting us know that they would start because of us. I wish we had book outlet here. Back when I lived in Canada the only bookstore I knew about was Chapters :( Enjoy your new books!
Hey Emily, you should read The Light Between Oceans by M. L. Stefan. It's what I'm reading right now and it's really good so far
I just found it last night at Vallue Village!! :D
J'ai beaucoup aimé AJ Fikry! Pis je pense que ja vais aller faire un tour au Village des valeurs moi aussi!!!
J'étais tellement surprise quand quelqu'un me l'a conseillé! J'ai trouvé plein de bons livres et je vais y retourner ce mois-ci! :)
What thrift store do you go to? So many AMAZING stories :D
Value Village!
I left you a comment in another video telling you to read the name of the wind lol. Yes! we've been waiting for so loong :(
I just don't want to start unless they announce it's coming out within the year you know... I don't want to torture myself :P
Haha yeah! I get it. I probably would've done the exact same thing if I had known it was gonna take so long :p Now I'm already hooked and it's too late
If into historical books inloved Sarah key but cant remember the author
intensity by Dean koontz...scary/creepy
Bird Box is terrifying and awesome
Great video
Ugly Love is NOT the best CoHo book, and it's definitely the most insta-lovey one. I'd suggest Maybe Someday
Good to know! I won't judge her on this one ;)
Brandon Sanderson has quickly become one of my favorite authors of all time and I just finished the Mistborn trilogy, it was absolute perfection and I actually cried a little when it was over because I didn't want it to end which has never happened with any books so I guess that should say something about them. I want to get my hands on "The Black Prism" so badly!! I am currently reading Weeks's Night Angel trilogy and so far so good.
beautyandbookmarks.blogspot.com
Watching this video 6 years laters is SO FUNNY knowing that she hated half of those books XD
I NEED THE REST OF US JUST LIVE HERE!
I've just posted a '20 I need to read before 20' and I'd love for you to check it out :)
I left you a comment in another video telling you to read the name of the wind lol. Yes! we've been waiting for so loong :(
