    3:04 Is that "Giant Who Stole Mountains" future Justice League villain Kanjar Ro? Sure looks like him.

    DC had the best sci-fi comics of that period. Excellent selection of covers Fred. Some of them have become iconic of the genre. And great choice for the soundtrack: Mars, The Bringer of War by Gustav Holst. Nice touch!

    Man, I love this stuff. Makes me a bit homesick though. Especially that November 1954 issue of Mystery in Space 🛸 The Square Earth. Thanks for the memories xilFderF. 👍🏼

    MOM! what do you mean you threw them all out cause you thought I didn't want them any more!!
    True story.

    • @FredFlix
      @FredFlix  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Also true: A low I.Q. guy who had 10,000 mint (never read) comics from 1955 to 1965, including almost all silver age keys, contacted a dealer in the '90s and said he'd sell them all for one buck apiece. The dealer asks for three days to come up with the money. When he does, the mom answers the door and says, "I threw them all away two days ago."

      @@FredFlix Yikes!!
      With me it was coming back from college and mom telling me she'd decided to have a clean out of all that old stuff from my childhood that was taking up all that space and that I was far too old for now anyway. She also got rid of my Peanuts books, at least she gave them to our Church for a second-hand junk sale (apparently the comics weren't considered "church worthy" material).
      My parents had an ambivalent relationship with comics, they always encouraged me to read, which I would have done anyway, they just preferred I not read that stuff 'cause they thought it would rot my mind.
      Maybe they did!

    • @FawleyJude
      @FawleyJude 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My mom threw out my comics because she thought I should read something classier, like books. She bought a set of books from Encyclopedia Britannica that had kid's literature. I looked at a couple, got bored, then discovered that they had comics in the newspaper. A real life saver.

    Back then in the "Atomic Age" of comic books, the stories could really expand on one's childhood imagination.
    Some stories were so good they could even make excellent movies or TV shows about them today!

    • @jameretief8327
      @jameretief8327 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      vinkleman remembered that too. Topps stores had a comic book dispenser in its inner doors where you put in a dime and 2 pennies for a comic. It did not give change or credits toward another comic. Of course back then no self respecting kid didn't have dimes and pennies weighing down his pocket when going comic buying!

    Those scifi, horror, and crime comics were ahead of their time. Think about how many were tossed out in the trash. Once the censorship and quack doctors wrote off comics as poison, it was a wrap. History just erased. Its the same with 45 singles. Im talking those rare cuts. Gone. Just like that. If only people knew the impact and the value back then...🤷Could you post some horror covers or some giallo? Thanks man 🍻
