    Thanks so much for this! Mrs. Bennet in the hands of a gifted actress is irresistible in any language.

    This is a very lively and enjoyable adapatation. The costumes are all wrong of course, but one soon gets used to that. Thank you very much for posting the series.

    _Here I am, watching the series for the third time and I just heard “Elizabeth” say something I’ve never heard from any other adaptation. When “Charlotte” mentioned the £10.000 and “Lizzy” said, “Did he ever work for it?” Which lead up to Lizzy ridiculing Darcy for merely “inheriting” from an Estate - the beginning of Assumptions on both sides_

    Thanks for uploading. It's great to see how this story has been interpreted.
    Not liking the super-cheap costumes and sets, but everything else is good so far.

    It looks like Mary got some of Kitty's lines. I heard of this in a book about Jane Austen in pop culture, but had never seen this Dutch adaptation before. I do appreciate the English subtitles (although I can pick up the occasional word or phrase as cognates from having studied Scandinavian languages).

      I have never been able to decide which is the uglier jawbreaking language, Dutch or Polish, both with strings of unpronounceable consonants and guttural noises.

    Why do productions want to get rid of one of the daughters? Is it that much more expensive to have all the characters in the show? Ruined it slightly for me.

      It seems to be a production from a public funded channel and therefore budget indeed must have been tight. You may also see that the costumes are probably not that expensive as well as the sets used.🧐

    The screen play is very clever, despite its liberties with the source material.

    modern audiences dont alway understand just how rude Darcy was. So I think them saying all the stuff he saod later in private here too is PERFECT!
    But i hate when they have him ask her to dance on the same night...
    it dose not make any sense!

    • @IndomitableT
      @IndomitableT 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That was probably a choice to save time, and move the story forward in this script.☺️

    Re-watching this today, and seeing two sets of subtitles - the original ones and a second set superimposed over the first. Is the 2nd set supposed to be a more accurate translation, perhaps? Makes good listening while I sit and crochet at my desk. (Although at least I'm not waiting for "the Man" -- he's at the computer desk right next to mine!)

      Turn off the closed captioning feature - then you should only see 1 set.

    _This has absolutely nothing to do with anything, but listening to this Opening monologue of “Lizzy” brings an unexpected interest in languages. This will be my second time watching this full Mini 🎩 Series, and while I’m happy for the translation, I’m also grateful for knowing Pride & Prejudice like the back of my hand. Not understanding one word that’s being spoken(I’m learning😉 a word here and there)in this adaptation I’m still able to enjoy the expressions from the characters, listen to and appreciate the Dutch language, but not constantly rely on the subtitles_

    And at least the sisters and their friends are appropriately bundled up for blustery fall weather when they walk to Meryton! (Too many film/TV adaptations of Pride & Prejudice seem to pretend that all the scenes take place in warm, sunny weather requiring nothing beyond a cropped jacket or light shawl outside.)

    Waar is Kitty? Funny to see "English people" with dutch behaviour XD And translation is not always correct, like when the mother says "het is al de tweede keer dat ie met haar danst" (he's dancing already second time with her), translation says "this is their 4th dance".

    • @Darcyfied

      Kitty is weggelaten. Het script is overigens echt Engels, nl. van de BBC, alleen vertaald natuurlijk.

    Lizzy voices more critical views of society than I think Jane Austen would put in her mouth.

    • @Darcyfied
      @Darcyfied  7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yeah they were generally less true to the literal text in the 1960s. Same for other versions back then.

    • @IndomitableT

      Consider that this may have been the way Jane Austen actually thought before she found words to actually write a story. There are no previous manuscripts of the books to be found, and it is believed they were burned, along with many many letters, when she died, most probably by her sister Cassandra. It has been argued among Jane Austen scholars that her stories are not about romance at all … the stories are about money, economics and trade between men and women, which actually made the world go around in those days. It may sound harsh, however I suppose it is there to be read in the many layers of Jane Austen’s prose.😌

    Mr Bennet is a lot worse than the English version, or rather they condensed his lines so we get a more honest version. Mrs Bennent isn't so silly for the same reason. She is a lot more proactive in both versions.
    I think Austin would like this version. She would have loved to be able to use her lines. Lizzie has a vibe of "Oooooh how I wish I could sat that, but the editor would make me take that out." She gets a chance to really say it in this version.
