Like in the Yuri origin story, she doesn't believe that to gain power you need a hero, you need a victim. She tries to make Nanno a victim to her revolution. And in her revolution, there was just chaos and revenge. But for Nanno's resolution, she wants the students to gain back power and independence. And rather through violence, it was through liberation.
And you know how Nanno teaches lessons, right? By letting people turn her into a victim of something fucked up on their own volition. 3rd season, I can't wait.
This entire episode - from the classical score to the cinematography - was a masterpiece. The actress who plays Nanno has also really come into her own. She plays the character like a boss and you can see how she was inspired by manga and anime.
I love the "cinematic quality" of this episode. I mean, it looks gorgeous in black and white. I feel they rised the bar of quality, and it looks more than a tv episode, and more like a short movie. Seriously, the camera angles, the contrast, the subltle colors, the aspect ratio.....I mean they could say it's pretentious, but I feel the creators showed how to make a quality series without an astronomical budget.
Another intresting thing to point out is that the whole episode was in black and white and the ratio was set to 3:4 as a way to show how old the school was established and how outdated everything was
What I get from the ending scene is that even Nanno the godly being that going from one school to another for punishing bad people, doesn't really know if what she did is actually right or wrong. She just did what she thought was right and so does Yuri.
Yeah I feel that too. Also, I feel this is where she began to have doubts, because before this she was always able to believe 100% in her own moral principle, never questioned what she did to the people around her, because she felt she wasn't one of them and she had a job to do, so she shouldn't care anyway whether the people like it or not. But with Yuri in her life, she suddenly had to deal with the fact her immortality and superpowers don't exempt her from judgement itself, because look at Yuri- she is like Nanno, but she behaves like a tantrum throwing child, like the ones Nanno usually punishes, and now Nanno had to punish her too. It broke the invisible wall that seperated Nanno and her likes from everyone around them.
This episode reflects the problems in Thai schools with a lot of regulations. There's been a laggard that hasn't evolved since then until now it's not developed, it's very sad.
I have no idea why I laughed when I saw all the Nannos in the repentance room. In my head I thought it was funny that she never really got out, but more and more of her just kept showing up 😅
That's what I love about Nanno though, she is more than her powers, she is very creative and fearless. She knows how to use her powers to such excellent effect as to create a mystique and aura of showmanship, leaves people's heads boggled. Yuri is more like I have powers so lets get killing, she has no nuance.
So when nanno walked in she was in color (good) and the redemption room is pitch black (bad) while the school, which represents the world, is black and white, not good not bad. Yuri was too focused on revenge and getting back at the teachers (the bad guys) at any cost which caused the kids (the “good” guys) to turn just as bad, if not worse, then the teachers.
They kinda make nanno realize that no one is truly all “good” or all In the right. Rather than one or the other, it’s a scale which can be shifted depending on prospective. Those kids were the “good guys” and thought they were still the good guys even after killing the teacher, all because she was a “bad guy” when at the end of the day, you still killed someone, you still did wrong
There are 2 things I like about this ep, also this is my most favorite ep in season 2, Nanno flex her power instead of trigger and create scenery for ppl to fck themself, and Nanno finally shows Yuri who is the boss

I mean, when you think about it, the reason Nanno is so fearless is because she knows she will make it out of anything, and its not her job to make it out anyway, its her job to give the criminals enough rope to hang themselves with, and putting herself in their power really makes the demon in them come out to play. If you know you are indestructible, or at least recurring and timeless, then you can throw yourself at any wall again and again and just wait till it cracks.

There are some schools like this in China, the parents let the school take the kids away from home, until the kids become a kid who follow the rules. in school,the teacher will beat them, do awful things to the students, keep them in a small dark room, not giving them food.the headmaster didn't get a punishment yet
I’m Thai, came from a school that’s basically the less extreme version of this. They care about their reputation more than anything, and they always have these ridiculous rules, and the principle is basically a king/queen. Sometimes there are punishments for the smallest of things, or things that doesn’t really matter like your braids not being tight enough, or your skirt being 1 cm too short (which btw, would already be longer than your knees). A lot of private schools in Thailand in particular are just like this.
I have heard that a lot of things shown in this show are supposed to be catharsis for people in Thailand, that their youngsters and even older generations are yearning for release and justice. Whenever someone says this is unbelievable, this cannot be this prevalent in any place, Thai people confirm that things really are that bad there, that is why this show spoke to so many viewers. In regards to some school issues touched on in this show I can't say too much since the school I went to is a private one, not to mention religious, and the experience is much different than a public school. I'm sure it's still happening though, sadly. There was a rally led by students for students in bangkok, which some of my classmates actually gave a speech in, and it was a really big deal at the time to the point where my school had to send kids home early before it was supposed to take place (my school had almost never done this). Not a lot came of it from what I remember, but personally I thought it was such a brave move when we consider the circumstances. To avoid exposing my school I'm not gonna go into details, but man did that event showed how greedy and frankly stupid our principal was lol. For my school I'd say yes with an asterick, I've graduated already but my cousin is still there, she told me they were more relaxed with uniform and hair related rules since the school went back to on campus after covid, but my cousin is in the English-based program and I was in the Thai-based one. Apparently the Eng based side of things were always a bit more lenient, and teachers let you get away with more. That said, my school wasn't terrible in comparison, there are far worse out there.

I actually find this season has been consistently good in terms of episodes and the change of style for each one helps. Season 1 had better writing,but was also way more inconsistent when it comes to episode quality. Funnily enough,I do think both seasons are about the same for me,but S2`s highs are definitely more memorable. First few episodes of Season 1 though...great stuff.
Yuri only knows violence and chaos. She has no interest in teaching lessons, because, in order for a lesson to be learned, the person being taught has to be left alive in the end to even remember what the lesson was. Yuri always shows up to sabotage Nanno's plans by having people killed. It's not about making a "revolution" out of "victims", it's simply about being destructive by seeking revenge and power endlessly. That's how she died: once she was a victim of a horrible torture, she paired up with her oppressors to get revenge, oppressing other people in the proccess, stole their material to make money out of it herself, then got attacked by the thugs she and her partners in crime hired to do the dirty job for them.
I think in this episode we really see the power gap between Yuri and Nanno. Yuri was pissed because she realised her plan didn’t work out and Nanno had to save the day, and Nanno’s display showed how much more powerful she is than Yuri.

There really is such a thing that happens in Thailand, for example, it is forbidden to have long hair because "if you're going to make your hair a cubit long The people in trouble are parents who have to buy shampoo.
