    Just brought one off watching your great review. Brought around half dozen knifes after one of your reviews.

    I bought one two weeks ago and love it. It does all the bushcraft needed. Chopping, batons wood carves features and strikes a ferro rod to light fires.

    FINALLY someone reviewed this knife with the TPE handle. Good going Brian. Of course Schrade had this months ago, but seem to be slow getting it out there.

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose
      @SurvivalOnPurpose  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks.I really like the grippiness (is that a word?) of this handle . The only issue I have found is that if it gets hit too hard repeatedly, like maybe could happen if a teenager was trying to learn to throw a knife, the backing on the TPE could break and the softer TPE material won't support itself. Don't ask me how I know this ;-) Since that's a rather extreme example I totally recommend this knife. I really like it.

    I really like what Schrade is doing now. They aren't perfect yet, but they're really improving. I'd like to see this in a straight edge instead of a recurve but it still looks like a good blade for the money....Good review.

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose
      @SurvivalOnPurpose  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, I think Schrade is working really hard to introduce some really solid gear at prices most folks can afford. I wasn't too sure about the recurve blade either, but I really like this one. The biggest drawback I can see is it may be a little trickier to sharpen, but there are enough different sharpening tools out now that that isn't a deal breaker to me.

    tfr51 It looks like the 2014 model SCHF9 is now made of the same steel - 8Cr13MoV High Carbon Stainless Steel - with a velcro retention strap and a buckle closure on the pouch. And it's a slightly larger blade. At least that what the Schrade website shows. I did find a few listed on Amazon as 1095 still.

      Just FYI, I also saw the SCHF9 in Carbon Steel at Academy Sports yesterday. It's also on their website at Academy.com

      I just emailed Tayler Brand's the response was it is 1095 there website listed it as 8Cr13mov but it might be a error I did put a question at amazon if it would spark being struck by a flint and the answer is yes so I will be looking at getting this knife

    I have the SCHF9. I was actually thinking about reviewing it when I saw this video. I think Schrade has put out some pretty good stuff at good prices lately. Nice video! Keep em coming.

  • @SurvivalOnPurpose

    +Daniel Weaver They are the same except for the handles, so I think either one would be a good choice if you like this knife.

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose
      @SurvivalOnPurpose  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think so. Schrade told me it is the same as an SCHF10 with different handle scales. They look the same as the handle on the SCHF9.

    You review guys always pick the hardest place to baton a log;)
    Sure wish they would upgrade that with the new handle designs, it would make an awesome addition to the new frontier line. Can't wait to get the 55 & to see some more vids from ya on it, also those 56's look like winners to me. So many good knives so little money LOL.

    Hey Bryan,
    I know I keep coming back to your older vids, it's now 3/5/16 and I still LOVE this knife! After about 10 minutes of work grinding off that horrible gimping on the bottom of the handle and smoothing out the bump it has become my go to knife for medium cutting tasks. The recurve really helps with making feathers, carving and similar type tasks. And even though it's 8cr13mov the deep hollow grind makes it amazingly sharp and easy to touch up. I love the tip design of the F26 even more than the F51, and the F26 has more cutting edge. I wish Schrade would go back to this blade design and give it a new handle design like the F51. Still loving this blade!

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose

      +True Blade it has always been one of my favorites too.

    I was thinking of buying SCHF9 but after watching Tactical's review of SCHF9 and this, I think I'll get SCHF26, it seems big and heavy enough to do chopping and batoning.
    Cheers!

    I will be honest, I've seen a lot of reviews on youtube, and I'm really picky on what to buy for the money. I bought a cheap mtech knife for totally abusing it in the woods. and I can't kill the thing. but you sold me on the Schrade, I will defiantly be buying one. great review brother. now for the real serious conversation. I thought you would have tried to char the silica gel. lol take care my friend

    This is the same schf10, except with different handle scales. I wonder why schrade renamed this knife instead of just giving you handle scale options.

    The SCHF9 is a much better knife, same blade profile and made with 1095 steel. Looks like the sheath is made cheaper also, no snaps for retention or buckle on the pouch. The SCHF9 is between $35 and $40.

    Good review. I've been looking for a good fixed blade knife, and I settled on the schf26. It's pretty hefty.

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose
      @SurvivalOnPurpose  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thin that's a good choice Curtis. It is one of my favorite Schrades so far. It is hefty but it's also well balanced. Like I said, if the recurve blade doesn't bother you, it is a really good all around knife.

    My cousin got this knife and after about 5 days of almost no use at all he brought it so my house and we went up in the woods to test it out some more and after some light chopping the blade started to chip and chip and chip. Probably was just a faulty knife. I liked it a lot other than that though.

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose
      @SurvivalOnPurpose  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Outdoor Pioneers Sounds like something that Schrade would like to know about. They are very proactive about the quality of their products. I haven't heard of other issues with this knife, I have 2 and both are doing fine after several months use. Maybe there was just a problem with your blade. It's under warranty, I'm sure.

    • @outdoorpioneers8977
      @outdoorpioneers8977 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes we are going to send it back to get a new one. Im sure it was just a faulty knife. Seems to be awesome!

    I have this knife the ergonomics are great and for the money it's hard to beat . Get out your Dremel tool and some carbide bits and do some modifications to it that fits your needs . Make a new sheath for it or modify the one that comes with it . I bought mine used for $10 at a Goodwill store . If you beat on it and it breaks you haven't lost anything 🤔

    I have SCHF9 and it’s awesome knife for batoning! The 1095 models are excellent knives, I would not purchase stainless models. Brian does excellent reviews on all Schrade knives however I just prefer carbon steel unless it’s mora stainless steels. Any reason why Schrade using stainless on majority of knives? I understand hollow grind is cheaper to create.

    Does the Schf 26 has identical grind on both sides? I bough the Schf10 2 weeks ago and the knife has about 2 mm difference on the grid. I ask Schrade and they told me that it is normal. Any way the knife cuts i am guessing the knife was made by hand and they didn't feel like scraping the blank.

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose
      @SurvivalOnPurpose  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      pretty sure it wasn't made by hand. Sounds like a screw up to me. The grind should be even

    • @MickyMouseLimited
      @MickyMouseLimited 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did call the warranty department and they told me that it is normal and knife is not defective.Resharpening was a bid confusing because of the 2 mm difference but on the end work sharp did its magic.

      Thanks Mountainman. The sheath is nothing fancy, but I like it better than the plastic on on the SCHF27 I reviewed previously. The pocket on the sheath comes in handy.

    Does it hold a sharp edge long, even if it's stainless steel? How long, compared to the 1095 carbon steel, for example of the SCHF51?

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose
      @SurvivalOnPurpose  7 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @AirSofter241
    @AirSofter241 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    okay, this looks like a pretty sweet deal, I'm just confused at the price. It's great that its only 30 or 35 dollars but theres another knife called the schf10 which seems almost exactly like this one only a different handle design. Literally it's exactly the same but the schf10 is 40 or 45 dollars. It's not much of a difference, I just want to know why.

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose
      @SurvivalOnPurpose  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the SCHF26 is the replace not for the SCHF10, which is no longer listed on Schrade's website. The only real difference I can see is the SCHF
      10 has micarta handle scales and the SCHF26 has TPE. Which is a little softer. There is also an SCHF9, which is similar but a little bigger. Hope this helps. - Bryan

    This is the knife I wanted. The SCHF10 with the handle material of the SCHF9...I bought the 10 and then a month later Schrade comes out with this knife...
    Does anyone have any info on the handle material? Do you prefer this rubber ring or micarta? The schf10 is $7 more expensive on Amazon compared to the schf26.
    Also, Schrade if your listening, make ALL of your knife sheaths MOLLE compatible please!

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose
      @SurvivalOnPurpose  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      D Harlo I think they both have pros and cons. I'll tell you if you plan on throwing your knife (and I have no idea why anyone would want to do that), you can tear up the softer handle material if you miss a lot. My son pretty much trashed mine learning to throw it....Er, I mean know a guy who did ;-)

      Honestly, I think most of the sheaths on any of the decent sub $50 knives are not much to brag about. They get the job done is about all you can say. When you are trying to stay on that price point and still produce a decent knife,there isn't much left to go into the sheath. I have kydex sheaths that cost as much as this knife.
