- Sun Dragon has started a knit-a-long in April 2022 for the Ranunculus sweater by Midori Hirose, and I'll be attempting to keep up with some videos that can assist the pattern. I will try not to reveal too much of the pattern, you can get your own copy from the pattern writer on Ravelry (about $6.50):
www.ravelry.co...
We love this pattern in the shop because it is so customizable, you can make it on any yarn from a lace weight to worsted weight, can alter the neckline, sleeve length, and torso length, and since it's designed to have enormous positive ease, you can do all of it on a size 10 needle, often without testing your gauge.
This video is the sixth in the series, laying out as clearly as I can the German Short Rows found on page 7 of the updated pattern. I will not be walking you through all the rows, but rather laying the groundwork so you can follow her instruction in the written pattern.
I'll be doing my best to build a playlist of videos that I've already make that could be helpful as well.
Consider subscribing, suggest videos you want to see below, and check out the Sun Dragon Sideshow, Liz and I are always making fun things. We will be talking a lot about the Ranunculus as well during this knit-a-long over there:

I can't tell you how much I appreciate you!
Thank you, thank you, thank you, from St. John’s , Newfoundland, Canada! The fact that you do so many videos, and give so much help, without any monetary gain, while running your own yarn shop…. It is just over the moon! I’m confident that I can, and am doing my first Ranunculus, and will do more.
What a gift you are giving to knitters all over the world. I love you and God Bless You. ❤️🧶💪
Wow, thank you! ❤️
Thank you. I'm late to the Ranunculus party. I don't know if I could do short rows without your expert video!
You are so welcome! Glad I can help :) ❤️❤️
You are so good at making this clear without extra words or rambling. Just enough for thorough understanding and context. Thanks!
These great videos have helped me SO very much! I am now on my 9th Ranunculus and still refer to them to jog my memory.💜🧶
Great video! Thank you
Wonderful!
I’m following and finding it easy peasy.
Wish me luck!
Thank you for the reminder to slip with yarn in front. It is a great pattern and it does explain it when it tells you what SL-gsr is before you start the short rows but I may have forgotten to do that 😅
Thank you for explaining each section so clearly!!! Love your demonstrations and positive energy!!
I've never understood GSR before. Thank you for such clear instructions!
I have not bought the pattern yet as I was intimidated by the complexity, but after finding you I am really thinking about doing so. Thank you for all your work and the patience it takes to make these for us.
일용이 언니 고마워요...덕분에 잘 배우고 있어요....
Oh my good lord you are saving my sanity. Your video guides are wonderful! I as a fairly beginner knitter decided to attempt the ranunculus. Without your videos I would have thrown my wool and needles far far away. So, 4 hours and about 20 restarts later I have finished round 8, yippee, I think I have done ok. Turn the page and WTF 😱 no idea what the pattern is telling me, however you once again have explained so clearly what I am meant to do. A massive thank you from newbie knitter in Scotland. X
Yay for our sanity!! 😂❤
Woot woot. This video was PERFECT!
Vielen Dank, ich denke jetzt kann ich endlich den Ranunculus beginnen 👍🙏
Thank you so much. I would never had gotten this from the pattern.
Glad I could help!
I wish I could hug you! You are an angel.
Thank you for all of your help I may finally finish this after months and months of frogging
Thank you for the videos they are a blessing . you are a great instructor , I can see u enjoy what ur doing . Thank u again !
You are a wonderful teacher! I appreciate your detailed instruction. I have done german short rowns in many sweaters and always thought I might be doing something wrong because one side was wonkier than the other. Thanks for saying yours is like that too - now I know that is just how it is and it isn't me!
Very helpful!!! This is my 2nd Ranunculus and I remember stumbling and tripping over many of these early sections. You made it so helpful to fly through my beginning of my linen garment.
Your a life saver again!! I never got this from
The pattern! Thank you 😊
Excellent explanation! Thank You! This is my 2nd Ranunculus; it's amazing how much I forgot...lol!
I’m starting section 3 now. Your channel is the only reason I am attempting this pattern. Thank you
Me too!
Thank you for your wonderful verbal and wonderful video help through each section. 😀😇
thank you! exactly what i needed.
I’m sorry I missed your April Ranunculus knit along but stumbled upon your very helpful videos just in time to start my first Ranunculus……thank you!! I am now a subscriber!!!
Thanks for all of your Ranunculus videos. They videos are extremely helpful!
I started to do this and I do combination knitting so my purl stitches were different with the lead in the back instead of the front. Also I had yarn that wanted to split and I was using two strands. Not the best………………but I made it. Yea!
Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos! So helpful
Thank you so much for this. I bought the pattern and have been just sitting and starring at it in confusion. LOL.
This is so helpful …thank you! Working the short rows as I watch this!
Just bought the pattern. I’m excited.
Your videos are very helpful thank you!
Thank you so much for your detailed explanation! I was able to get thru this section quickly and accurately! Now on to Sec 3 ☺️
You got this ❤️❤️❤️
Muito obrigada pela explicação!
Great supplement to the pattern. Thanks 😊
Thank you so much for the videos they are very thoughtful, I just bought the pattern now I’m going to knit the top
This was very helpful thank you 🙏
so happy that you showed the continental style too, the American style back and forth with the yarn is just so confusing to me...
Ok I am going to try this keep your 🤞
Thank you!
You're welcome! ❤️
Thanks
thank you!! 🥰
You’re welcome 😊❤️
Thanks!
Hello! I have just discovered your channel and it has been my salvation with the Ranunculus. Thanks a lot for your time and explanations. You are a good teacher :-) I haved started the Ranunculus twice without confidence: It seems to me that at the beginning there are few stiches casting on... will it be enough for passing my head?
Hi! Check out the early videos in this series, I believe I talk about the different necks/collar options. Depending on the fiber you use (some plant fibers don’t have much give) it should indeed pass over your head. It is meant to have a wide neckline, believe it or not. The 30 stitch cast on quickly becomes 60 following the instructions. My assistant casts on 90 and skips the first set of increases after the ribbing.
@@SunDragonTipsTricks Hi! It must be the yarn! I am knitting with cotton so, following your sugestion, I will cast on also 90. Thanks again for your help!
@@SunDragonTipsTricks Hi ! What type of cast on your assistant used for 90 sts . ? Thank you 🙏
OK! Made it through the increades! Yay! I need to change needles from my 16" now, because it's smaller. Savvy? Can I take one cleansing row before beginning GSRs? Thx.
Please do the videos for Continental knitters 🙏
Hi there- wish I had the time and energy! midori’s videos that accompany the pattern are filmed from a continental point of view, that may help
I am so hooked t following your knit along on ranunculus Hw do I get them in order. Short rows….oh no! Thank you so much…
if you look at my list of videos on my main page, they should be in order. TH-cam may mess up if they play in the right order, I may not be able to tell you how to fix that. In theory, if you go to the Ranunculus playlist on my main page, they should play in order
So looking forward to all of your videos on this pattern!! I am currently on Section 3 Row 7 which is (K2tog, K3) 30 times, was wondering if the K2tog is the loop and the 1st stitch?? Thank you sooo much
Yes, just like row 3, the single stitch and the loop are knitted back together- this video goes over the mechanics in general, though not that row in specific:
Knitting: Ranunculus Knit-a-Long assistance, part 7: Insert RHN instruction in Yoke
th-cam.com/video/LRTKDZ7H9Rw/w-d-xo.html
@@SunDragonTipsTricks thank goodness! that’s what I thought but since she didn’t put a note like she did on Row 3, I decided to stop and see what help I would find on TH-cam… and I found you 😊🙏!!!
Does anyone know if you want to omit the short rows in the front - do you simply skip those rows and move onto the yoke or do you need to still do something with those rows - thank you!
Hi there! Thank you for your videos. I bought the Ranunculus pattern and I'm finding it a little confusing since it has several (CAST ONs) CO Round 1, CO Round 2, CO Round 3, ETC....Do you think you can help me understand that beginning part of the pattern?
Hi ! I have videos aimed at each cast on if that is helpful- go to my channel and look for the Ranunculus playlist ❤️
Hello, so thankful to find your channel. I have already knit my 1st Ranunculus sweater. I find the neck too high in the front. I am starting my 2nd sweater now and I am wondering if you can tell me - if I omit the short rows in the front do I need to replace those rows? In other words do I have to knit 7 plain rows in the front to replace the front short rows?
My best guess is try it without any short rows in the front- any number of rows will add to the girth. You can try a few rows just to give the pattern stitches some space from the ribbing, but if you knit 7 rows straight you may find the whole sweater sits a little higher on the neck. Just a guess though……. 🤔🤔🤔
Hi can I just do short rows to back without causing a hole?😊
Help your video really helped and I am following the pattern but the front marker does not appear to be centre I have taken it back and done row 11 again but again the front marker does not appear to be centre where am I going wrong please😢
Hi Carol, without seeing your work I won’t totally be able to assess- however if you have 90 stitches, row 11 after knitting back to the beginning of round marker and slipping it is knit 16, knit the gsr, knit 28: 16+1+28= 45, half of 90. If you don’t have 90 stitches, the last instructions on page 6 has instructions after your cast on/ribbing to increase your stitch count. ❤️
When do you change ge needles from 8 to 10. Also do you use magic loop. Some details on these subjects would be much appreciated. She does no say when to change he needles
Ohh my dear sweet kind teacher….I surely wish you left your lovely rings in the jewelry box during tutorials. 🙃
Hi there- I do recognize my rings can be a distraction for some, they are an integral part of me and who I am, and others recognize me and my work by these same rings. Thanks for watching my videos :)
When you use lace weight, do you double to make it more of a fingering weight??
That is a personal choice, I have knit this with a single strand of laceweight, but I don't wear that version many places. Double stranded for a fingering weight would be lovely.
What yarn are you using love it!
Hi Christa- this is Juniper Moon Farm Cumulus Rainbow, available in Sun Dragon’s online shop :)
😀🤩
Can i ask you if there is a fault on the patternwhen she sais at row 11 knit 28
Hi Ria- to my knowledge the pattern is correct. If you are not at the center front at this time, make sure the other short rows have gone correctly and you have passed the end of round marker at the right place every time- on row 11, after you slip the marker, knit 16, knit the GSR, knit 28 is a total of 45 stitches from the back marker. With a total of 90 stitches you are now in the middle of the front.
@@SunDragonTipsTricks thanks i have made a mistake i have co 60stitches why 🤷🏼♀️ I don’t know
Hi Ria- casting on 60 is ok- if you look at the end of page 6, second column, there is a line about doing an increase row to get you from 60 to 90 stitches, before you start the short rows ❤️
Turkiye selamlar olsun 👏👏👏sizi seviyorum kac ilmek basladiniz acaba ben M beden giyiyorum yardimci olurmusunuz bana 🌹🌸
Hi Sirin! Using Google Translate, it looks like you are wondering what size I am making and what size you should make, you are a medium? The one I am making in these videos is a size 5, the pattern is intended to be roomy, it really is a question of how much extra room you want in it- even a size 1 may be more form-fitting/average fitting for someone who usually wears a medium. I usually wear a large at least. Perhaps you can try a size 3-4. For number of stitches I really recommend buying the pattern if you have not already ❤️❤️
Tesekkur ederim 60 ilmek baslasam olur my sizce M beden icin
Hi Sirin- all the sizes start the same way, you don't have to pick a size until section 4. So medium, small, or large, using the twisted loop cast on, all start with 60 stitches.
Thank you so much for all these Ranunculus videos, they're so helpful 😊
