A great way to really start building a scan and learning depth perception is to go out hiking alone. That narrow field of view becomes really apparent when you hear weird noises and you have to physically turn your whole head to try and orient to those noises. You also end up seeing a lot of cool wildlife like owls, bats, and deer. There’s a lot of really cool benefits to NODs that don’t even have to involve shooting! Great video as always.
An Appalachian trail entrance is 10 minutes from my house. I'm tempted to try and hike it when my rvm-14 arrives on Monday, but I'm also a little scared because there is some steep terrain there...
If you have a friend who also has NV, playing a game of catch with a soft football or stress ball helps with the depth perception and hand eye coordination under NODS. Start slow, with an underhand toss and as you get comfortable, increase the distance. If you're alone, bouncing a ball or tennis ball of a wall and catching it is good practice too. Great vid!
Two or three layers of mylar foil will darken any window quite nicely. Toss a blackout curtain on top and it's virtually zero VLT. If you want a room for practice this can be useful for some folks.
Perfect timing! My pvs14 I ordered from TNVC a few months back was shipped out last week. It was their top of the line model when I ordered it, but they came out with their 2376+ FOM supergain tubes 1 or 2 weeks after I ordered mine. I think I got lucky though because when I ordered it, they told me to request 2376+ FOM in the comments when ordering. Ended up getting a 2700+ FOM, 72lp/mm resolution with a 37.7SNR. Wondering if I got lucky and got a supergain tube for 1k cheaper? 🤔
Can you do a video on the upper limits of light (intensity and duration) acceptable for use before damaging NODs? For example, the amount of daylight (time of day) or the amount and direction of lighting inside a building.
Also, been using them to check on the newborn cuz the baby cam has IR, and I hate waking up momma when I need to change a diaper She gave me her blessing when I changed a diaper using nods and didnt wake her up 😅
Practice actually getting out and walking at night with them on. There is a nice bike trail i go to and walk at night with my pvs14. Some things i have learned is its good to learn how to pull a battery off your back and change in the dark, also, in the winter, wool gloves get caught up on the velcro battery holder on the back of my head. And, always wear safety glasses when walking in woods at night, nods or no nods, the last thing you need is catching a twig with your eye. I wear a crye nightcap with my pvs14, and a streamlight sidewinder compact around my neck, it feels weird and i have a constant fear of getting choked, but i cant get it on my forehead with the nightcap on.
For my Nightcap setup I put a Norotos “Universal Shroud - Light” on it. Shroud has built in white/blue/red LED lights built in. Runs on 1x AA. Not a whole lot of illumination, but adequate for navigation/writing/admin tasks.
@@yzhou05 please tell me how it feels and if im wrong about it being too heavy/ bulky. Also, is the white or blue light bright enough for emergency first aid at night? Thats the number 1 thing i want a headlamp for.
@@thegeth4293 The white is definitely bright enough (has at least 3 adjustable brightness levels). Blue is adequate if your eyes are night adapted. It is somewhat heavy compared to the lightness of the nightcap but I run counterweight even if just using PVS-14 so not a big issue.
This might be a real long shot, but do you have any thoughts on running nods with a shotgun? Do you think its a recipe for disaster to use passive red dot shooting with nods and a shotgun?

Yup. I ride my dirt bike on my trails in the woods and its extremely difficult with NODs, but possible. You learn to trust your depth perception and not clip the handlebars on trees.
@@rlovell383 I would feel so awkward riding a dirt bike under NODs lmao I have rode ATVs a ton though they are so much fun to ride under night vision when you turn the headlights off.

Picking up dog poop , removing rats from traps , tying shoes under nods !! Small normal task will help ur depth perception and dexterity
Thx Sir!! Always helpful as usual…. I recently mowed my yard at 2300 under nods. Neighbors love me lol
after i got my 14 I kept my lid next to the bed so I'd use NOD's for those late nite piss breaks... when you are over 50 you will understand.
You could always turn on the light...your depth perception with the 14 might have you miss the bowl. ;)

I’m actually going for a walk in the woods tonight
I sent for a night walk. I heard a scream come from the woords, so I hauled ass.
