- Blew #3 cylinder in the original engine. Removing it and replacing with the same engine but from a 1987 which I hauled out of a parts car I sent for scrap. It ran well when I pulled it so should be well now.
I will be rebuilding the original engine. I am debating weather to go performance and stick a turbo on it or not. Let me know what you all think!

@BTGpbk - It really is a pain in the ass but I enjoy doing it. I don't get to do this stuff too often so I guess it keeps my interest a little better that way. I think I will take you advice and go the performance route... maybe a full-on sleeper!
eather way its a pain in the ass i hate workin on a celica or any cramped up small space but your pullen the engine so why not rebuild it and get some performance out of it good luck
I'm currently lifting a 3GSE out of my 1989 celica for maintenance. Getting to the bottom engine mount without the car lifted, or being able to get under is a nightmare! aha
It is a tight spot but not that bad. I had the car up on jack stands in the front to hook everything back up. Did it all in 2 days! There is a first start video on here as well as others of the car. I sold it a couple of years ago unfortunately. Great car, and would buy one again if I got the chance.
barfass Ahh yeah, I got the entire engine out today. Awful lot of cleaning to do. (It has been outside for the last 10 years or more unfortunately) A lot of debris dragging in by rodents. Like you I think I'll get the car on jacks for reassembly. Shame to hear you sold it! :( maybe one will come your way some time soon :)
were is the ecu located on these cars i cant find mine
