  • This video taught me more about game difficulty, and my own preference of games. This video may teach you a bit more about your game preferences as well.

I love this explanation. Makes more sense why some games seemed so much easier when taking turns with another person.

Just like Battletoads. That too requires different skill sets to beat it. I came close to beating that game several times, making it to level 12, then dying. As for tmnt, I was able to make it to level 4 once.

The design concept of having segments in a game with totally different mechanics never really went away, but there was definitely a later shift toward either making them optional minigames or setting a low threshold to clear them (often offering bonuses to the players who did bother to master them). Once we got to the N64/Playstation era, most games had enough content that it wasn't necessary to force the player to play through everything slowly and nobody saw the need for rental gates anymore.

I was able to beat TMNT nes when I was a kid. I had so much patience back then.

Max every character out on scrolls. Shoot before you advance. The END!

This game has also another layer of unintentional difficulty- bugs.
    A lot of bugs.
Displaced Gamers channel is making a series about it.

What an excellent video! I think exploration in the NES era relied on hand drawn maps and, frankly, I’m not into that. As a result, I too have never beat this Turtles game. I enjoy messing around in it, but I never even consider beating it. If there was a modern remake that filled in a map or better explained your location in the overworld or where you need to go, I’d consider it. Thanks for sharing!

I would love a collection of Turtles games with some modern updates!
