Awesome stuff! Great to ride with a new group and meet some new people too. You guys are bloody strong. I hid in the wheels and only did 2 turns in the front haha
This ia mad, didn't even know Rapha had this ride! Haven't done a ride like this is ages since training for a triathlon but it iused to a be a weekly staple through the eastern suburbs punchy hills. Gret vid. On the front next time haha
I know right! Some serious hittas in this group. Triathalon training is a lot different to these kind of chop rides, I don’t know how you fit in three sports, especially during winter 🥶 Stretch goal 1, don’t get dropped. Stretch goal 2….on the front? Haha
Damn, looks so fun! How are you in bib shorts?! I don’t know about Melbourne, but in Perth it was 6 degrees today and I had 4 layers on (base, SS, LS, and gilet) 😂 Come over to Perth, we have the River Loop ride and there’s a few groups who do a smashfest ride for it (STG is one of them and they’re fasttt).
The duality of riding chop rides. Dress for the ride or for the cafe? Hahaha I warm up very quickly when I’m riding hard so bib shorts feel great. At the park up…not so much 😅 This morning was 7 degrees 😵💫
Can’t really comment on the bibs since I don’t wear Rapha. I would say Rapha rides actually have quite good bunch etiquette. The newer groups obviously not as much, but the whole point there is to teach people.
Having ridden with Rapha a few years ago, and also recently. I can vouch for the work they're doing and the ride leaders they've got running the rides. One of the better groups in sydney now IMO
good to have you along! (I was the rider in bright blue top and marone long bibs), it's addictive - hope you'll be back!

This was a great video. Thanks for takin us for the ride.
Killer video mate. Another excellent DnB roller at the perfect time
Sometimes half the video editing is finding that right tune to match the energy of the video. Thanks for appreciating it 😇
So glad you thought the first part was crazy ! I was I the group behind and 100% cooked through the first part - v quick pace ! 👏 loved it
Mate it was kinda scary how fast we were going 🫣
I never did FLAPA, but actually learned to ride with a bunch with Rapha 10 years ago on that route! Oh memories~
That looked crazy fast! I would definitely get dropped 😂

Enjoyed this video heaps josh... enjoyed it more than getting dropped halfway through this ride.
See you same time next week
Hahahahahhaa see you at Pain Train + Flapa
The most cursed evening morning combo
Need more info on single speed guy!!!
Loving the videos mate - watching all the way from Townsville… Nice and warm here
Thanks mate! Enjoy the warm weather
Nice vlog bro, well done. Subbed ♥️🙏🏼
This looks well fun. Curious, how many watts were you averaging to ride the flats at 50kph? Thanks
To be honest I was hiding quite nicely in the draft, maybe 200-300 watts. The accelerations and surges are the hard things to keep up with.
Great Vid again Josh. Love it.
Thanks mate!
Looks Awesome!
It was! Thanks for watching
Good edit man.
Cheers brother 🤙🏻
Now that is some movie magic
So many people without gloves 😮
Dunno how you do it when it’s this cold!
yeah wonder how they can still wear short bibs
I like wearing my gloves after the cafe or when I’m warming up. What can I say though, just love the feeling of bare skin on the rubber shifters 🥵
I'd love to know the gear inches of that single speed nutter
This is way better than the Tuesday night chop
Tuesday night chop is a bit different, I enjoy that for the cornering. This is fun for smashing up the hills
@@joshkwan Great video, reminds me of the old videos from James Tan Cycling

"personally, I love flogging myself"
Don't we all Josh, dont we all!
😅
Type 2 fun :P
Suffering at the time, but kinda fun in retrospect hahaha
Did the single speed guy keep up?
He more than kept up, he was pushing the pace at the front
@@joshkwan oh wow lol that's impressive
How do you function at work when you have just done a vo2 max effort !
Lots of coffee 🙃
I ❤ flogging myself 😂
Self punishment 😅
Great video Josh, but we need more Westie content.
Noted
I have some more westie content coming :)
how do you mount your insta 360 on your bike computer mount?
I don’t, I use a bite mount :)
flapa on a single speed is WILD
Apparently he doesn’t own a bike with gearing. Even his gravel bike is single speed 😵💫
any other casual riding group u recommend other than the Tue night SOP?
Wednesday morning has casual groups that leave just after 6am from Taylor square.
Sorry to be dense, what is FLAPA?
The normal route is called “Lapa”
So the fast group have called themselves “Flapa”
@@joshkwan ahhhhhh thank you! Google wasn’t much use there 😂
wear a base layer mate. they keep you warm
Hahaha that’s a good point. I have one base layer and it’s been sitting at the bottom of my drawer for too long.
Great vid mate, is the ride open for all? or just rcc members?
Wednesday ride is open for all!
Love flogging yourself 🤣
Love it mate. Type 2 fun, feels shite at the time but afterwards it feels rewarding hahaha
Flapa looks insane, will definitely get dropped 😂
It’s a lot of fun, but you know what else is fun? Reco + and spending more time at the cafe 😜
Has rapha fixed their huge stuff up with bibs? Rapha rides is usually a red flag for poor skill and bunch etiquette. Best avoided.
Can’t really comment on the bibs since I don’t wear Rapha.
