It feels weird when they remake movies that aren't super old. The original came out in 2005, when I was in highschool. I'm 35 now. Feeling old as hell. 😅

It's been wild as someone who has been watching Donald's whole career since he started. Seeing him go from being a shy, kinda awkward and nerdy comic who used to babysit kids, to being one of the baddest rappers of all time, to now being a believable action star... The man is beyond talented. A true Renaissance man for a modern era, and it's been a lot of fun to watch him evolve.
I feel like if they gave this movie another name, people would say that it would be awesome. People may make comparisons to the original later but in the comments, people would just say it looks like a good movie. EDIT: Series...movie...doesn't matter

The series is not a remake of the movie with Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, but rather of a 1996 series, and the plot of the new series is much closer to the original than the 2005 flop. Fun fact: Will Smith was supposed to play the role of Mr. Smith in the 2005 movie but turned it down in favor of Brad Pitt.

Except it looks like that might finally be changing a bit. 2023 was a huge flop for Hollywood so hopefully they start taking some damn risks and actually make new material or adapt new books. Also I hope they get the lesson about how a good story is better than shallow diversity. I want to see more diversity on screen but not if it's 1) terrible, 2) shoehorned in for tokenism or 3) rebooting a story but swapping the main character to a poc. Like... just adapt diverse stories. There are so many cultures with incredible books you could bring to screen. Even racists like diverse movies if the story is actually good. I want to see a Fifth Season adaptation so damn badly.

It’s not though. It just came out when there were a lot of remakes of 60’s crime films happening, and it has a very familiar name. It certainly ripped off a lot of things that came before it, but it’s not a remake.

To be completely fair to the original material… the first one wasn’t woke enough. Thank god this is finally corrected and I’d love to also see the assassin-genders-dynamics also being more accurately represented where Mrs. Smith is finally portrayed as the brain and the muscle of the operation as even Pitt’s character was a rather goofy one. Additionally it would be great not to see much emphasis on them ultimately falling in love (like the original did) as Mrs. Smith does NOT need Mr.Smith in order to be happy! In fact remove the whole love thing from the equation completely and replace it with the message! Mrs. Smith is already a chick so… you know what to do!

In no way will this be able to touch the original. The movie is perfect amounts romance, action, and comedy delivered by two mega stars at their peak of domination. Of course the budding romance off screen adds something to their on screen chemistry but even without it, the movie draws you and takes you for a ride. So what's the point of this?

So, it's not really a re-make. It's using an essence of the original premise to explore very different ideas. Donald Glover is one of the most original minds in film, TV, hip-hop and stand-up comedy. Of course you have every right to your own opinion, but I think you'll be cheating yourself out of something really interesting.

Movies and TV with a similar premise: undercover Blues(1993), Mr. & Mrs. Smith (1996), Mr. and Mrs. Smith (2006), Undercovers (2010). I've watched and enjoyed them all and I will definitely be watching this one. It's pure escapism with a guarantee that nothing will happen to our heroes. These are also the reasons why I watched shows like Hart to Hart, Moonlighting, Lois and Clark, and Castle. Maybe one day I will see this premise with Lesbians as the main protagonists. I can only hope.

They should’ve just made a movie like it instead of a remake. Angelina and Brad had that passion and real attraction for each other on and off set. This movie could be good, but it won’t hit like the original. The trailer looks like there will be funny/crazy moments, but it also looks awkward.
Some movies should never be rebooted. At least not while the original actors are still making movies.

My suspension of disbelief stopped at believing these two would ever be married to each other.
To be completely fair to the original material… the first one wasn’t woke enough.
Thank god this is finally corrected and I’d love to also see the assassin-genders-dynamics also being more accurately represented where Mrs. Smith is finally portrayed as the brain and the muscle of the operation as even Pitt’s character was a rather goofy one.
Additionally it would be great not to see much emphasis on them ultimately falling in love (like the original did) as Mrs. Smith does NOT need Mr.Smith in order to be happy!
In fact remove the whole love thing from the equation completely and replace it with the message!
Mrs. Smith is already a chick so… you know what to do!

Food for thought... This isn't a remake, this would actually be the third rendition of the film. The 2005 movie starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie was the remake. The original came out in 1941 starring Robert Montgomery and Carole Lombard.

In no way will this be able to touch the original. The movie is perfect amounts romance, action, and comedy delivered by two mega stars at their peak of domination. Of course the budding romance off screen adds something to their on screen chemistry but even without it, the movie draws you and takes you for a ride. So what's the point of this?

Of course. But it's not like someone's doing a cheesy remake of 'Citizen Kane'. It's 'Mr. and Mrs. Smith', a fun, fairly good spy comedy.
Also, it's going to be vastly different. So, it's not really a re-make. It's using an essence of the original premise to explore very different ideas.
Donald Glover is one of the most original minds in film, TV, hip-hop and stand-up comedy.

Looks intriguing. I can't at all picture Donald Glover or Maya Erskine (Pen15 yo!!) as action movie stars. She did an amazing VO as the MC of Blue-Eyed Samurai, so I'll give it a chance. Don't judge a book and all that jazz.

Movies and TV with a similar premise: undercover Blues(1993), Mr. & Mrs. Smith (1996), Mr. and Mrs. Smith (2006), Undercovers (2010). I've watched and enjoyed them all and I will definitely be watching this one. It's pure escapism with a guarantee that nothing will happen to our heroes. These are also the reasons why I watched shows like Hart to Hart, Moonlighting, Lois and Clark, and Castle. Maybe one day I will see this premise with Lesbians as the main protagonists. I can only hope.
