I remember watching Titanic as a small girl and remembering how absolutely beautiful Rose was. It wasnt till i was an adult I learned she got so much hate for her weight in the film and I rewatched it as an adult. To this day I cannot find a single flaw with her body. She was curvy, she has a beautiful hourglass figure, she was healthy and soft. She was the picture of ultimate feminine health. Society in the 90s just couldnt handle all those curves.

As Rose she was slim and all, anyway she was only 19. later she gained some weight, but seemed to always have lost it for movies. Never saw her overweight in a movie. But obviously she is like me a person who has to watch her weight.

I was a teenager during the time that Kate Winslet rose to a whopping amount of fame after filming the Titanic. I remember these comments like it was yesterday, the tabloids and media constantly called her a big girl, large, fat, chubby, etc. That time was an extremely toxic era, people like Kate Moss, Fiona Apple, Paris Hilton, were all considered the epitome of beauty and if you weren’t waif thin like them, you were considered chubby. It conditioned a lot of women of my generation to develop unhealthy relationships with food, eating disorders and dysmorphia due to irresponsible journalism and pushing fad diets to achieve dangerous levels of skinniness. It’s disgusting the way they treated her! Looking back, she was never even close to being considered “fat”. I’m so happy to see that society is starting to embrace healthier bodies.
When Titanic was released, I was so happy because Rose had the same body type as me. She was also the main character and love interest, not a friend or side girl. Before that, you weren’t considered beautiful if you weren’t skin and bones.

The idea that she was fat, the literal tabloids and cruel commentators, really fucked up an entire generation of young women. I look back and am still shocked at all the hate over the years she’s gotten. She was never fat especially not in Titanic. Mean jokes that her and Jack would of both survived if she was smaller. Like literally disgusting comments made for decades now about a beautiful woman. A woman I will always see as one of the prettiest kindest women in showbiz.

Wow this was only two years before she quit school worked in a delikatessen and went to auditions! Shes probably a hero.
