I have a 68 Formosa ketch. Love your project. You probably know the iron fuel tanks probably need replacing.. they had lifespan of 30. Good luck on project.
I thought you were being a little over-cautious about the fibreglass until you're working with the head torch on at 4:51 and you see in the beam of the torch what is invisible anywhere else in the shot... Glad you're wearing a breathing mask, too.
Living the life down there in the Caarrib! A bit warmer than here in winter Ireland!! Hope the 'pirate ship' project is finished soon - without glitch! Thanks for the vid.....👌🏻😎
You have a very pleasant voice I'll be back to watch more adventurous with your pirate ship! I bought two silver rings for my self this summer one that says hold and the other one that says fast.
I've been watching your vids off and on for a couple of years with mixed feelings but I like the direction you have been going since you got the boat In Anacortes. You guys have made great progress and should feel very good about what you've accomplished. And thank you for the background info. We all have "back stories". I hope to see you on the water - we sail year-round out of BHam with hopes of "heading south" next summer. Cheers :-) P.S. That crows nest is off the hook!!!
I don’t think people no how much work there is on a big boat like that . I watched you and Delos many years ago caught the bug , bought a tayana 55 that needs work. Lord I no now. Sv Bohemian
"Nurse...Scalpel....suture....Swab...more Swabs, Quickly now !....Multitool....Crowbar.....CHAINSAW !!! ??? " ....LOL this went thru mind when he was talking....LOLOL....Take care guys ! great video !....OnWard.....
Can’t wait 2 c U guys on the water! I noticed Little Miss was on the market just recently! Sometimes U hafta let go of the past 2 fully embrace the future! Thanx 4 the vids! Fair seas! 👍
Check out if there is a product to stop the absorption of the varnish. I found my olde timber too soak and turn dark. Which maybe ruining the timber by eventually drying and cracking.
Like "what about Bob" lol, so funny. My favorite quote "death therapy Bob, hahahah". You have it all , funny, gorgeous, understanding, gorgeous lol. Cyril is a lucky man. Yall make a beautiful family. Cyril just needs to laugh more
Hello there! I just watched your video from 2 years ago! From when you shipped your little sailboat to florida to work on it with Dan from Sailing Umma. I just realized that I am in the exact same boat yard and even in the exact same spot that your boat was in, right now as i type this comment. 😁 I'm in a 30 Catalina doing electrical and wood work. I'm also about to buy the green and white pirate ship that was just off the port side of your boat. It looks similar to the boat you are on now 😁 that makes me feel so good to see im following in the footsteps of one of my fav youtube sailors! #FairwindsAndGodspeed 👋🏾👋🏾👋🏾
Just put in an offer, waiting on survey, on the baby pirate ship version of your boat, a 41' Island Trader, so of course I'm excited to have found your channel :)
Hey Aubrey! Haven't been on youtube in like a year, looked up your channel to see how your boat is going and you uploaded 5 mins ago! Meant to be!! Can't wait to watch, much love to you and yours legend! XX Kiki
Thinking you probably should have used epoxy for the mast step to fill the cracks in the wood. Just tape off the sides of the wood and down to where it meets the deck and pour epoxy down the cracks. The epoxy would settle down into all of the voids of the wood and fill them. When the epoxy cures it can be sanded flush with the wood's surface. Epoxy also expands and contracts with wood movement. Can't wait to see the boat launching.
All the years I've watched you, I've never been pulling for you more. Also, never been so proud to know who you are and how you proved it with the support of Plukey. I knew she wasn't the one for Captain needs a wife seemed like just because she wrecked Long Reef. Of coarse that's just the TH-cam looking glass view.
How long do you think before hitting the water.Love the timber work on the boat. You would be proud of your achievements and the future experiences this ship will bring to you. XX love it
Saved the best till last - the poor dog! lol!!!!!! Hope we get an update in the next vid. Boat is going to look very 'flash as' when it hits the water. "C'est malin! "
I'd take care of the wood on deck before mounting all the outfitting stuff. It's harder to do later when it's all in the way. There are tools to get out broken screws. These brass screws are a pain in... But it works, there are tools to fit a 1/4 " wrench or for hexagon bits to use with an universal screwdriver or power drill. But better do it by hand...
You're getting closer!! It's funny to see you guys in shorts and tank tops....it's freezing right now!! Hope you are staying safe during these PNW storms we're having. Yuck!!!
I'm really looking forward to you actually sailing that boat and going exploring when you get there instead of always watching you refit sailboat after sailboat. It will be fun to see you and your family exploring new and interesting places. As for the dye on the dog, since you didn't wear gloves before you started I see you wearing them a lot after. ;-)
hey guys the white paint/laminate on your solar panel is rubbing on the frame, that laminate dissipates heat, so if you scratch it, all the way through even slightly you'll burn your solar panel, not really fire risk, just means your panel will be useless, as burning one of the squares is the same as dropping a cell in your battery, and work against any other panel in series with it. (ex solar electrician) boat is looking awesome otherwise
You know what? I believe in you. If I can crew on your boat I most definatly would. You should just do youtube season with a specific crew and see who makes it to the Bahamas.
Good you didn't coat the mizzen mast step with Epoxi. EP is not pressure resistant on wood (soft underground) But the cracks want to be filled with waterproof glue, not with wood filler. Doesn't matter the oil on top is marine stuff. The underground also needs to be saltwater proof.
Investigate the proper way to connect your anchor correctly. The way you have it connected now is for failure at the worst possible time. The minute you start to raise or pull the anchor from the side that connection will fail. Please don’t fall into that trap we’re you know better than the people that have made the mistake. You must add shackle between the anchor and swivel.
You have not connected your Anchor correctly. As connected in your video your anchor can become stuck in so tight that you have to cut the line to get free. Especially in deep cold water anchorages. The top hole should be connected with a break link or short piece of rope to break free when too much stress is applied. There is a second hole closer to the front of the anchor. This second hole is where the strong chain link is connected and when you break the weak connection at the end of the stem all force is applied there and the anchor comes right up. (Hopefully). Anchors and chains are expensive. Connect them incorrectly at your own risk. Lol Good luck
Think hard about ground tackle. Awesome new anchor, but maybe keep the old on as a secondary on 30m of chain. Also, you said something about the bow roller at the end of the bowsprit. Must look at the leverage there with the whole weight of the boat yanking there. There is a good reason why the bow rollers are just barely outboard. Maybe you need catheads to cat the anchors at sea.
love the reference to "What about Bob". The other reference I would have used is Ulysses wanting to be tied to the mast so he could listen to the call of the Sirens.
So wait - you're converting your keel stepped rig to deck stepped? But keel stepped is far far safer for blue water than deck. I have three basics for what makes a true blue water cruiser - deep encapsulated keel, protected rudder and keel stepped mast!
Learning is doing things yourself not holding the camera and fluffing and fixing your hair and talking about it...you should seriously take a good hard look at yourself you say all the right things but your actions don’t live up to your words... if it wasn’t for Cyril you would be getting nowhere fast cause quite honestly you truly haven’t an idea about anything other than worrying about how you look and your hair...
Easy for you to say from the other side of your screen isn’t it? You aren’t angry with me, you are angry with yourself for having to watch others do what you wish you had the courage to do yourself. For that I forgive you.

Grrrreat boat!! Yes we have just started getting into the tanks.

We went back and forth on that. I’ve used it in other cracks in the real around the boat and it is definitely more of a process
The epoxy can be thickened a bit with colored sawdust. makes for an (almost) invisible repair.
Yes...wood filler has zero strength.
Another good episode, lots of educating your viewers. Thanks, nothing wrong with a little learning on a Friday!
