    I just found your channel! Watched a few vids already. You are so right brother about being humble when travelling. I'm in Australia now. Came for a visit pre-Covid and now I reside here. Originally from Bklyn, NY and L.A. I didn't know that S. Africa is visa free with U.S. passport! I'm so close to S. Africa and never thought about visiting. But yet I've been to Asian countries and S. Pacific Islands ( Fiji, Vanuatu etc) Central and South America. Everybody's else's country, but where from ancestors probably came from country. I was so ashamed when I saw that flight with more of them then us. It hit me in some kind of way. I just told my fiance to start getting ready to go to S. Africa. It will be a 2 year plan. If I can get there sooner, I will. THANK YOU for the knowledge, inspiration and encouragement. Flights there from Brisbane, Australia are 1 stop 17hr 45 min to Joburg. $3k AUD round trip. Which can drop depending on the time of year.

    Let me share with you a little reality my brother. While our African American brothers were sitting and accepting all the rhetoric about Africa, White Americans have been coming, investing and buying property in South Africa for more than 50 years. While black African American comedians ignorantly talked smack about a continent they knew nothing about, we South Africans in particular were watching boys in the Hood in 93 and realising that Compton isn't too different from Soweto. Seeing our brothers get slaughtered in America has made me appreciate South Africa and all its offerings so much more. Sure we have our issues but nothing can replace mental sanity and sense of belonging and identity. There is no privilege that is on offer in the US that supercedes those things. AAs in the USA are in a permanent and perpetual state of alienation and in a constant suffocating state of trying to belong and seeking validation. It's a nightmare I can't even begin to fathom, I just think of the everyday anxiety that's linked with that kind of existence.

    • @poquitovibes9432
      @poquitovibes9432 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Typical of someone like you to use an American film that portrayed Compton only in a negative light. Many places like Compton here in America are absolutely nothing like what you see on TV. I feel 1,000% safer WALKING through Compton at NIGHT than I do DRIVING through rich 🖐🏻 areas during the DAY. I don’t think I would ever walk through any bad areas in Africa like unless I was armed or with multiple people. Don’t speak on American neighborhoods based on films and us Americans won’t speak on your country. I bet you won’t ever walk through a rich 🖐🏻 neighborhood here and have the same attitude.

    I went to South Africa as a H.S. graduation gift from my father’s employer. I was friends with his daughter and we visited her grandparents. I learned it was colonized by the Netherlands in 1792-1806 and then Great Britain 1806 - 1961… the white people you see traveling there have relatives there for centuries(?)… these are not new tourists…. They have a history there and let’s be fair…. The area was built up and advanced by the Dutch and British… thus the language Afrikaans is one of the languages spoken there … it’s a beautiful country.

      Another unknown fact is that the Chinese have been living in South Africa since the 1870’s. During apartheid, they were classified on the same lowest rung as black people. The japanese were given the honorary white status with all the benefits. China at the time, also helped to fight apartheid albeit on smaller scale compared to the Soviet Union, African countries and Cuba. When we retained independence, the Chinese were then given the “ black” status and the same rights as black people- now even in parliament as members of the ANC-Xiaomei Havard case in point. Additionally, my ancestors from the Kingdom of Mapungubwe, ( google) have been trading with Egypt,China and India for centuries prior to colonialism. So we find it very condescending especially from AA when we’re told that we are stupid to trust Russia and China without understanding the dynamics.We are not naive, we understand what’s at stake and we understand Africas worth in this relationships. We have a trading history that we want to revert back to as equal partners. As South Africans, we definitely know who our friends were during our darkest moments.

    My first trip to Africa was to Ethiopia in 2009. Just like Phil, the thing I noticed the most was the large number of white people on the plane and at the airports. I observed many Ethiopian woman with white man. I was in Ethiopia for one month and the whole time I was there I never ran into one black american until I was leaving at the airport. I was more of an oddity to those Ethiopians than the white people.I felt that black americans were missing out on african culture and financial opportunities. But considering the fact that 70% of Americans donot have a passport, I can't say I'm totally surprised.
