      Julia Mount Many dogs have black nails, and you can’t see the quick. For black nails, I trim back very slowly until I begin to see a darker dot forming in the center of the nail. On black nails, that’s the signifier that the quick is close. I don’t cut any closer once I see it. Work on taking small bits off at a time, and don’t cut any shorter if you’re worried!

    Zak, I love all your videos and all, however I see they are mostly focused on puppies. I am sure there are many many of us that had decided to get an adult rescue dog which we struggled training and they are so much more complicated than puppies as they already have a foundation they base their behavior and feelings on, I would love to see more videos on re-training your adult dog, maybe an idea for new series for your channel? Have a think about all of us with daft adult rescues with bad habits. Thanks. Much love! xx

      So true. I got a Amstaff at 7 months old, not only that she left the puppy state and haven't experienced anything a pup should experience, socializing, basic tricks, walking on a leash etc. She's a high energy dog and Amstaff are usually medium, she was very stressed, this was very different for me to handle. I learned alot from having and retraining her.

    • @chloe_y
      @chloe_y 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      if she is still stressed, try the "thundershirt", i heard it is good for dogs to relieve stress.

    • @InsideTheDogWorld
      @InsideTheDogWorld 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yea I Heard about them, never tried them tho. But she's stressed in a "Hyper-Dog" way that has a hard time finding the off switch. I've been training with her alot, she couldn't do anything in the start, now she can walk with a leash, without a leash (Even if we meet dogs), if she's loose 100 meters infront of me and see other dogs, she turns around and runs towards me, she's realy good at tracking, obedience and agility. What I ment was that I had a dog that already left the puppy state and that I agreed with JonalaBeauty about Adult dog videos from Zac, but also if anyone wondering about something I'm more than happy to try help with my experience. But yes, that was actually something that I could perhaps try out, I mean she's doing real good, I guess with time she will handle it better considering she's getting better every day, small steps at the time.

    Hey Zak could you do a video about teaching your dog boundaries? Like how to teach a dog that they're not allowed in certain rooms of the house? (Like the kitchen, when your cooking.) Sometimes it's a little hard to keep them away from areas like that when you have an open floorplan to your house and you can't close it off with a door or safety gate to limit access. It's no fun to crate either just because your going to be cooking.

    hi zak, I've just recently discovered your channel after getting a dog a couple of months ago, I've been trying to train him, he can sit and stay, but he won't follow a lure to lie down, he just gives up on the meat

    • @karimdawood8034
      @karimdawood8034 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      PresGaming try shaking the meat a little bit to make it interesting or try another thing like turkey for example or chicken it may encourage him more.

    • @presgaming6814
      @presgaming6814 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      KledQBeowulf thankyou for your advice, I'll try shaking it, and the meat I've used is chicken and ham, so Maby I'll try turkey, thanks

    • @presgaming6814
      @presgaming6814 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      KledQBeowulf oh and btw, I have a chihuahua, and I've heard people say they are aggressive or not friendly (he's not) , should that effect his training capability??

    • @karimdawood8034
      @karimdawood8034 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      PresGaming of course not there is no such thing as a nice dog and an aggressive dog its your behavior that affects them as long as you stay positive with him and teach him rules and boundaries and always remain calm you won't face any trouble when training your dog try encouraging him to do sth by being enthusiastic about it and rewarding him when he does it correctly.

    • @presgaming6814
      @presgaming6814 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      KledQBeowulf thankyou for your time in means alot, but I've just tried him with the training advice you gave me, and it didn't seem to work, I tried to be engaging, and shake the meat around, but he just ignores it??

    Zak, thank u for you tutorial videos!
    but my puppy is just so smart, she'll do whatever i said when i have treat, but when she knew i'm just simply ask her to do any action without treats she won't bother me.
    she will rush at me in order to get the treat as a "shortcut"...
    how do you overcome this situation?
    thank you so much for all your videos, keep it up!

    • @Jowyerv
      @Jowyerv 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      oh my, btw, my puppy is just 2 months, and started to being materialism...

    • @Bellencer
      @Bellencer 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The issue is the treat is being used to bribe her into doing the trick, rather than a reward for doing it.
      How to stop this? Keep treats on you at all times in your pocket, and when you ask her to do something don't show her a treat. If she knows the command and doesn't perform it then place her into the correct position (e.g. push her bum down for sit) say "Yes!" or whatever your marker is, and reward her. Now she knows you have treats she should start performing the behaviour, but remember to never show her the treats unless you're luring the behaviour.
      As she progresses you can phase out the rewards, so only reward every other sit, then every 3rd, 4th etc until you only reward randomly and rarely.

    Hi Zak & team!! I would like to ask you: from your experience, do you think a dog can learn the same command in 2 different languages (one being English and the other one catalan -my native language- which is a latin language that doesn't sound like English)? My point being that not everybody that would eventually have contact or take care of the dog speaks English here, but will certainly need to communicate with them (I hope you understand what I'm trying to say hehee). Love your videos!!! Hugs from Barcelona!!!

    • @lazypuppo

      Carme Ferrandis Yes. A dog can definitely learn to do the same task but with different words (languages). You just have to teach it again with the new word.

    Please do a video on trimming nails cause my dog bites and scratches while I do it and it simply hurts and I can't do the nails and the vet won't do them because of the biting and scratching

    I like your videos Zak, but you make it seem so easy. I have a hard time getting my puppy to listen and she isn't interested much in treats either. I hope eventually she'll come around.

      The easiest way to train a puppy and get their focus is by not feeding them from a bowl- use their food as the training treats. So instead of giving breakfast, lunch and dinner you instead turn mealtimes into training sessions. Not only does this make your puppy focus more because they're hungry, it also gives you multiple training sessions throughout the day, helps prevent obesity (from too many treats), bloat and resource guarding.
      During the day you can have spontaneous training sessions using treats, just make sure you knacker her out first with playtime or a walk.

    Puppies so sweet but dumb like us have to start somewhere. Being repetitive and giving treats are great training. Thank you!

    When your still trying to convince your dad to get a dog so you wrote a 4 paged essay addressing his concerns, pros, no cons, things I’d do and how the dog would help you and your brothers fears and you know he isn’t gonna read it so any time you talk to the, or text them you say dog.
    Life is hard.

    I've got a labrador puppy, he's almost 8 weeks old. I try to teach him simple commands like "sit" but he's always so maniac as the dog in your video and he doesn't pay attention even on treats! How do you calm down the dog? Is there a best hour in a day to train it?

    I understand the biting is not good, but its clear that lil' pupper is playing. I completely understand she needs to stop, but I just hope you know she was playing.

    I have a chihuahua/papillon mix that is 3 months old and so far I have taught him "potty" for going to the bathroom, but I still have issues with biting.

    Hi Zac. I have a puppy who isn't toy or food driven. I struggle to engage him, so training is pretty much impossible so far. I've tried almost every type of treat and toy. What can I do to train an unmotivated puppy?

    Can you do a video about stopping dogs from opening doors since my 3 year old pit bull mix opened the door and ate a few crayons, chewed up my headphones and ripped apart my homework.

      Lollypop2048 sounds like you're in a pretty bad predicament here. I hope the teacher in your school can understand, even though "dog ate my homework" is the oldest line in the book.
