Hi Guys The village festivals are a once a year event that help to keep community cohesion, a bit like weddings and funerals. Staying off the grog is hard, however if you are clear you have had enough you are respected. There are bees in Lao out in the country, they are small and wont sting you. I see them wondering around on cassava chips once they are dry, collecting dust on their legs. I am not sure if they use the material as food or a building material. Hosing down the mango trees is something that is done in some communities, if it does not rain much. I think the reason for the amount of flower this years is the early rains this time last year.

I am not sure I would have used the word commodity. While technically being correct as in describing something of value it is also used to describe products that are widely used(common), generic, and in a perfectly competitive market environment.

One of only two places in E. & S.E. Asia I haven’t been. About 35 years ago the Laos embassy in Bangkok wouldn’t give me a visa. They said no tourist visas were being given then, only official gov’t business visas were being issued. I never got the time to try again. Looks like they’ve loosened up over the years. From some border traders who bought & sold flea market items by the Thailand border where the trucks switch from the left side to Laos’s right side driving, I did manage to get a couple of souvenirs. I got an old wooden license plate and a pin for crew members of the old Royal Laotian Airlines. Looks like a toned down version of Thailand from this video.
