    Always clamp down or hold in a vise your workpiece.

      Yes helps keep all hands farther away from the blade. Same goes for cutting metal with metal cutting tools. Never know when the cutting tool will snag and get caught in work piece.

    never use a cutting tool on a dremel while holding what you are cutting with your hand. This demonstrates how not to use cutting blades.

    I just bought this set of blades and a Chicago Electric Rotary Tool Kit (#63389) from Harbor Freight that has a 9 volt rechargeable battery pack. You keep mentioning that this is a very dangerous tool and not meant for kids. Well, ALL power tools are not meant for kids! I also agree with the other comments that your object to be cut should be secured with a bench or table vise when being cut. Lastly, if you are careful as an adult, you don’t need to unplug the power when attaching a saw head as mine is battery powered. I just make sure that the power is off.

      I find it very rewarding to use my rotary tools with the Cub Scouts to work on their pinewood derby cars. The kids love the tools and love to see the finished project.

    I've used these for many small projects and never had a single issue. Now that being said first off don't hold the object your cutting in your hands use a vise. Second eye protection is a must and even consider some good trustworthy gloves. And as stated in video never attach any dremel bits while plugged in that's just my opinion too. If you're not familiar with rotary tools I wouldn't advise using something like these. But I must state this again never ever hold the object you're cutting with these in your hands that's a big problem you're asking for doing that. Also never force tue tool to cut more then it's supposed too and always use commonly sense that goes for many tools honestly common sense. I watch many restoration channels and it's scary even just seeing how so many people use angle grinders without guard attached especially when you can find many videos on how easily they fail and can cause seriously bad harm. Run a saw blade such as these should be used only for small projects with all the proper steps taking as they can be very dangerous aswell.

    Any tool is dangerous if used improperly. First, really who unplugs their tool every time they change a bit? I have this kit and have used it extensively with no problems. Your project should be clamped down NOT held in your hand. Or mount your tool and move the project. Also the harder the material you are cutting the faster your blade should be running. And go slow, if you force it or try to cut too fast it will grab causing it to jerk. What is dangerous is the improper use of the tool NOT the tool

    For a video on safety it was a dangerous example to both hold the small piece of timber and then actually perform cutting towards your face area, a big no no . I would advise both hands on that tool for guidance alone, though a small safety guard wouldn't be that difficult to fit either. Tools are only dangerous if you have no respect for them, keep eyes open at all times and never strain the blade beyond it's capability.

    must install blade so its cutting in the direction your rotary tool spins as rotary tools are NOT reversable

    • @kellyvcraig
      @kellyvcraig หลายเดือนก่อน

      Rotary tools, like my Foredom and RAM are reversible. This one only reverses by flipping the blade over.
      Reversing the blade or the direction is turns allows you to come at material from different sides, to always keeping the debris from cuts and grinds throwing away from you, AND so the blade or bit wants to run away from you, rather than at you.

      I've used them for many minor projects with no issue's. I guess honestly it depends on what you're cutting as far as hardness and thickness goes. I only used them for thin stuff and balsa wood as I make my own fishing lures as a hobby. It works great for cutting off small sections but I would never use it to cut long runs or thick wood.

My last resort is this tool. never having used one until I milled out the slots to put in the fin boxes I now have to be careful and try cutting the slots open for the fins. easy enough I guess until I realized the sawblades I bought on ebay, from China, never came with that manderil bit. so that's why I came on here hoping to learn something. one things for sure anti clockwise means its heading straight for me at face and stomach level so I'm wearing extra protection thankyou for the video SURFS UP. Thank you for reminding me of this. I know precautions for circular saws 7 1/2 inch but I honestly didn't think of the same precautions against kickback and binding for a saw this small. It seems harmless enough but it could make short work of hands which will always be in the vicinity because there is no table locking, and clamping is sometimes an afterthought. Same value in eye protection precautions. Close work and need for unobstructed visual focus can put users at risk for eye injuries even more than major power tools.

    I make my own blades just like these. They are dangerous so I always clamp what I'm working on , cover my neck with a bandana, and wear safety glasses. It's not a good idea to hold your work piece in your hand while using one of these blades. They will cut your fingers to the bone very easily. I've never had a blade break apart but I cover my neck just in case. These things are scary. Every time I use one I picture it breaking apart and sending metal shards into my neck. I use mine fore cutting bone when I make stuff from bone. It works so well it's easy to picture what it could do to your fingers. Also do not use one of these blades if you aren't experienced with dremels.

    These blades are made to fit tool 670, not used like this. Also there is no choice which way you attach the blade. The plain side goes opposite the chuck. The teeth are angled for one direction of cut. Wood to be cut needs to be held in a vice.

Honestly suprised there aren't universal shield guards for more rotary tools out there besides dremel. Are there any drilling/cutting bits that can do more curving/circular cuts in wood or am I just using the wrong tool

    Great video, So its not recommended to attempt to cut curves seeing that would call for turning or twisting the blade a bit ? Thank you.

    • @jeschinstad
      @jeschinstad 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you want to cut curves, you should consider getting a routing accessory and a routing bit. They look similar to drill bits. You can also use a cutting bit, which also looks like a drill bit, but is designed to cut from the edge, while the routing bit is designed to cut at the bottom. If the material is thin enough, then you _can_ cut curves, but you must do it top-down. So you're only ever cutting straight down. I just did that on a thin piece of metal, with a different disk, of course.

    I tried using this same set last night, just purchased it so it had never been used, at least not by me. I've never used this type of accessory on my dremel before, but I use large saws and other power tools often, and I use my dremel often. But anyway, as soon as I turned my dremel on and it started spinning the damn mandrel bent!!! Thankfully I turned it off before it bent more and the blade started hitting the dremel or broke off! I'm not sure why it did that, if it was something I did wrong or if the mandrel was damaged before I attached it. Does anyone have any experience with that issue or have any insight to what might have happened so it doesn't happen again?

    You can get injured from using any tool that will remove material in any manner from any material as hard, or harder, than human flesh. That being said, what in the everloving prompted you to talk safety then have your flesh in close proximity to the cut on the workpiece? I know a professional that lost four fingers because he got careless and tried to bump move a piece of wood with a running saw. That little saw may be little, but it is no more OR LESS dangerous than a table or radial arm saw. If any power saw binds, it will buck, and if you have flesh in the way, you will lose some. Please don't do that again, okay? (Familiarity breeds contempt and power tools just don't care, even little ones like dremels.)

    • @adityakumarrai7691
      @adityakumarrai7691 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes Sir. This is a preventive measure. Why not design a safer Mandrel with a shield and a speed controller on the drill body itself? Many jobs do not need 20,000 rpm speeds. Also as the saw blades are made of thin sheets the drill should be clamped and job moved across with a guide so that it goes straight and does not twist.

    That particular set of saw blades is pretty cool, but definitely not the safest route for cutting. One thing I didn't like about it was that the hole in the blade has to much play which ib turn crwates wobble and eats up collet's. There's probably a fix for this, I would assume something to fill the slop in the blade mounting hole, even some paper, cardboard, or tape..? Think I'll give that a shot right now as a matter of fact.. excellent video and good safety advise..

      The mandrel dia. should be the same size as the hole in the saw and back collar to push the saw against the collar and tighten with a nut with the washer on the mandrel having outer threads. Not with a screw on an inner hole. This will stop the WOBBLE. also aguard made from a jar Lid,

      The screw that holds the blade down cannot handle the vibration at this high speed... Even the dremel blades are not designed this large... if you have to use some type of circular saw for wood just use the proper circular saw, rotary tools like dremels really arent designed for this sort of stuff as the tool can "kick out" of your hand. Bad idea. If you want to cut small wood pieces with a dremel just use your typical cutoff disc which is NOT metal but looks more like a small angle grinder disc...and always put the piece you are working on in a vice so it doesnt fly at you like in 8:00

    You really should read about a subject called up milling and down milling as it relates to circular cutting of wood or metal. Similar to using a router and which way you want to move. I can think of no practical use for this dangerous tool. Too many options out there for cutting small items.

      Don't rely on safety accessories, rely on safe practices. No shield is going to care if you get hurt. Every shield is going to have an opening so the tool can work. So that shield is just going to be an illusion you fool yourself into thinking you're safe. Which is itself a dangerous situation.

  • @MrSongwriter2

    You can’t stress enough how dangerous it is and state you really need to know what you’re doing with it. However you hand hold the wood, at one point bit gets grabbed out of your hand and you are cutting towards yourself rather than away from you.Would you run a circular saw in the direction of your body? Sorry but I got suckered in by the click bait title. I expected you to say it was dangerous as the saw blade comes loose and could fly off due to speed and vibration. I’ve had it happened with grinding wheels on dremel which is why I use the new click lock dremel wheels for cutting and grinding

    I literally just bought this set of rotary blades today for use in my Chicago Electric rotary tool (also purchased some time ago at a Harbor Freight). I tightened it up and turned it on at the lowest speed to test it out, as this is my first experience putting a mini saw blade on the tool. In less than 3 seconds the mandrel bent into an almost L shape. The blades are rated for 20000rpm and on the lowest setting my tool should only be moving at 8000rpm. Has anyone else encountered this? I plan to return it/exchange it tomorrow, but should I invest in another of the same brand? Is this common or a one off?

    I purchased this kit last Spring. I SHOULD have made a video on what happened. Before I even started cutting, the mandrel BENT AT HIGH SPEED and I almost dropped the tool from vibration. This could have been a very dangerous situation. I couldnt believe that the mandrel was that soft and weak. DO NOT purchase this saw kit unless you want to lose a finger or eye, due to that easily bendable mandrel!

      Dude, mine did too. Mandrel bent badly, vibrated heavily under the speed and the cutting wheel went flying off after the screw worked lose. Luckily not into my face or body as I watched it hit the floor and ricochet off the walls into a coat I had hanging up. I was stupid enough to try it again making certain it was properly tightened and I used at a lower speed. Another fresh mandrel started bending and the wobbling began. Was able to cut the Dremel off before things went too haywire. You are right, these things are extremely dangerous.
