Please let it be known that this snowstorm was unexpected and I was simply driving home from work before it got worse. I am NOT encouraging people to go out and drive when the roads are in poor condition - especially with the wrong tire.
Recommending winter tires is just beating a dead horse as I stated in the beginning of the video that this whole storm was unexpected.
For those of you who run summer tires in the snow, use this video as a reminder. 😀

Exactly i own a passat 4 motion, first snow, okay lets play, it accelerated like it was in dry tarmac but when i had to brake for the end of the street things got really interesting....i just saved it😂

Still good driving considering. I'm a mess on snowy roads and always worried about the guy behind me. I have summers on too but fortunately was unscathed from the winter with Virginia not getting any. Have yet to drive in it at all with the R. Be safe and here's to warmer months.✌️

why don't you use dedicated winter tires? or all seasons at the very minimum. I use studded tires for where i live, havent been stuck once. phenomenal grip too!
Studded tires are illegal in a lo of places because they destroy the roads. But yeah, that guy showed us why tires appropriate for the road condition are important.
I was stuck in a massive snowstorm in the northshore in my old Mazdaspeed 3 with bfgoodrich gforce t-a kdw legit street drag radials lol. Scary as all hell. Anyways was with your boy Pete with the silver gti last night. My R should be fully tuned within the next month with APR turbo

I drove all winter with pilot sport 4s in my s3 and I was chilling lol
In Maryland right now and i slid down a small hill and had to either hit the car in front or eat the curb . So i hit the curb and destroyed my front right wheel , huge pieces of the rim off and tire got blown out . Shockingly my splitters were still intact 😂
Your home town's surrounding area looks a lot like the scenery of Northern Ostrobotnia / Oulu region in Finland! The weather too 😅 Town itself has some differences with the smaller towns this area, but a lot common too... The New England style architecture is quite noticeable here and there, and more uniform red block style, but some of those with no significant New England style are exactly the ones we also have.
We just got a good snow with constantly some degrees below zero Celsius. This means, it is now the best winter driving season with my Audi A3 3.2 quattro (same as Golf mk5 R32) 3-door manual 😁

Golf are reasonably reliable when taken care of. Had my MK7 1.8t for 5 years, tuned for 4 of those and no issues except for wear items like tires and the battery having to be replaced. Maybe I'm just lucky lol.

I’m not bragging. I run a TH-cam business where I document every aspect of my Golf R. Would you rather me talk about it, or film a video. At least a small percentage of people learned something from this experience.

Its not about the traction... the cold weather will destroy your summer compound.... you shouldnt run those
I’m pretty sure it’s the other way around. Winter tires are soft to cope with the cold conditions to stick to the round better. If you use winters in summer your tires will last 3 weeks before going bald. Summer tires are just more hard so no stick to snow
@@itslordzy9105 it goes both ways, soft winter rubber will have the oils burnt out and become ineffective where summer tires will dry out and crack and become permanently hard, defeating the point of summer tires

@@itslordzy9105 Summer tires are not built for cold weather. The tire tread will stiffen. In addition to reducing traction, this poses a risk to the tire itself. The tire loses its elasticity and may crack.
Summer tires turn into hockey pucks in the cold. I had to run them on a 2 hour drive once to get to my folk's place where my winter set was stored. Drove in conditions similar to the video with FWD manual sedan, no turbo. Friction levels were like 5% and you could spin up the tires at 55 mph in overdrive, just by toeing the throttle a bit. Never again. I don't care if you have 18 wheel drive. You still running on near zero friction.

uhhh yeah... because of said Kia's sketchy driving? Or did you miss the part where it was the Kia that lost control, which in turn caused him to lose control? Even with winter tires and the best AWD car in the world that situation would have been dangerous.

"No seasons" tires are worthless. They don't perform well in the summer. They don't do especially well in the winter. All they are good for is lasting a long time and saving money.
