I was pretty sure the reason for the buffer was in case a spark ignited the hydrogen or oxygen, so any combustion can't travel all the way through the system but gets stopped by the water in the buffer.
You're right, the buffer is also used for that! In an upcoming video where I’ll use Hydrogen for heating or cooking, I’ll be using a buffer bottle for safety reasons-you explained its importance very clearly.
@@jcopfr Oh, I see! This is the first I've heard that it's also used to get the moisture out of the gas though. Sounds a bit counterintuitive to me since it's literally passing through water, but I guess it must be that the droplets of moisture in the hydrogen sort of "stick" to the water as they pass through it?
@@zeph0shade The Hydrogen gas is of course not wet, but at the Hydrogen outlet, there is also a tiny bit of liquid water that comes out too. This is not a manufacturing defect, I saw in a video showing industrial PEM electrolysers, that they have the same problem!
Seems pretty comparable to the zinc and hydrochloric acid method in terms of production rate but without the mess and, in the long run, cheaper? Cool beans!
Yes, you are right ! For production of small quantities of Hydrogen, the chemical method with hydrochloric acid and zinc is the cheapest. However, if Hydrogen production becomes more important, the PEM electrolyzer will become cheaper than the chemical method.
Proff I just fill balloons with dry 12v battery put salt water inside when charging it produces hydrogen and chlorine! and can filling balloons to fly up !Local products are easy to find. There is mylar or latex!
That's true, but PEM electrolysers are by far more efficient, and less dangerous. Balloons will also have higher lift when filled with PEM electrolyzers !

Hydrogen is such a light gas that it will escape through the roof and the smallest openings (unlike Butane gas which is very heavy and will stay on the ground...). No need to worry!
Thanks ! At the end I say that I prefer Mylar balloons while I am filling a latex balloon ! But the text is correct In other words: latex balloons cost less than Mylar balloons, but are more fragile, are not reusable and retain Hydrogen for much less time. (That's what I should have said in the video).

@@1islam1 go away crazy person
I would fear that some of that gas would just leak.

Shouldn't you mass the string too?
Good question!
I used sewing thread, very light, so light that it was almost negligible (no more than 0.1g)!
Why is your electricity so expensive? Do you generate it with Unicorn farts?
Well done, impressive work, thank you!
Note: @9:25 s/latex/mylar/ , if I understand correctly.
