5:12 wow I've been doing this for years, didn't know anyone else actually did it this way. When I posted a tutorial for this on reddit people said I was over complicating things and called me a nerd lol
Wowww, I was using the circle circumference formula then dividing it by number of parts but that wasn't really accurate. But for me i will always calculate it because it saves a lot of time and its always perfect
Hey! Im actually impressed, this is the only video which actually helps with building gears. I'd be really grateful if you could reply. How did you get that formula to calculate the things? Im pretty sure that manually to do that is extremely difficult. Im a fellow enthusiast, so I'd really like to know please
The inner diameter and tooth height and all that stuff? Its the same as constructing a real life gear but i explained it slightly different, to hopefully make it more understandable (theres addendum for how much material is added outwards for the tooth, and dedendum for how much material is taken away so the teeth can mesh nicely, but i thought that would be harder to understand so i chose a slightly different approach) The circle piece = inner diameter * tan(180/number of teeth) is just a formula to get the side length for n-gons (which are circles in build a boat)
@@dabl2928 Ohh, I see, do you have any sources for this information? Like a website or something? Btw What is that program you used in the beginning of the video?? I'd like to know if there is some correlation between simple spur gears and other gears
I learned some of it from my teacher in school, but you can probably find the gear's formulas in every machinist's manual/handbook. The program was creo parametric which is meant for engineering. And yeah all the gears are somewhat connected with the module and addendum and dedendum, so if you understand that its pretty easy to make other gears like worm gears, helical/herringbone gears, gear racks. But bevels are the hardest in my opinion because you plan them as cones instead of circles and when adding the addendum and dedendum its harder because you have to add it perpendicular to the cone's surface and the tooth size also shrinks the closer you go to the cone's top (you can watch some other tutorials if you really wanna know how to make bevel gears)
@@dabl2928 Well, I mean i just tried to make a bevel gear, and It isn't too complicated. In summary, Make a normal gear, then decrease the size of teeth and make it equal (Not in length but in width), Then add another one at 90 degrees, add a 45 degree block and scale it into the 2, and then clone, thats it. (Do you have any links for manuals on how to make these gears?)
Yeah whenever i need a quick "bevel" gear i just clone a spur gear and rotate it and it works pretty good. But for proper ones i made them from this video th-cam.com/video/SkCyp5wS9uM/w-d-xo.html
I'll try making gears the way you do. Recently i was trying the same project of making a car gearbox that changes its gears similarly to Irl cars, the thing is, it should technically work bc they have the theeth and etc, but they suddenly just start clipping through eachother and stop working .-.
This is amazing, thank you so much. I've been having trouble with gears in a different game, but I haven't figured it out completely yet, and this should help!
I do know but they are wayy more complicated than spur gears (in my opinion even the hardest). I only made a few mostly for differentials. Instead of circles for planning it you need to imagine 2 cones and then the teeth shrink the closer you go to the cone's top, maybe i will make a tutorial but it wont be any soon
how do you usually fix wheels activated by switches occasionally stopping for no reason when players are far from it, cause i did some massive gear ratio to slow down wheels slower than 0.5 for some orbiting build, but the old wheels just sometimes forget they are supposed to be rotating, happens in afk farms too
Oh yeah i noticed that too and i couldnt fix it on my farm, did try a few things but nothing worked, then i just duped so many portals so that my farm doesnt have a single moving part when active and it cant bug out. The only thing i didnt try was to hold a key in pilot seat and jump out, i have a feeling that could spin forever (you can give it a try)
I love engineering with gear and but im newbie, found this tutorial is like found treasure Edit: my brain explode Edit2: man i really love gear but see how to make good gear make me sad
i made a magnet engine and a piston engine but theyre not really good in my opinion, so ill just keep experimenting then ill post it if im happy with it
Different size of teeth? It will never work if theres a big difference in the size of teeth. A pair of gears needs the same module (teeth size) to run nicely
I will explore it soon but i don't have high expectations for it so i might not upload it at all (the peak is 24k/hour and if you have double gold then its 43,2k/hour but it might be hard to get to that speed but ill try my best)
If you're a fellow player, You'd better not to know how to make an actual gear... It involves quite enough of engineering and calculating for a simple guitar... You could make simplistic ones considering the game limits and stuff, but they're quite far from actual ones. P.s. good tutorial and guidance, though! I think it'll be just enough for a game purposes anyways :D
Hey, i got stuck on the part where u use the calculator to scalethe bigger gears middle part/stick bigger and somehow i got 200k (and more after the dot) My gear is 24 blocks and should have 24 teeth but i cant do the part where i scale it out
The circle piece? dont mix up blocks and studs because a block is 2 studs (im gonna assume you meant 24 studs). And if the module is 1 then your inner diameter will be 21,6 studs and the circle piece will be 2,84 (use 0,42 in the scale to get to scale it to that number on both sides)
Its still the same technique diameter 16 with module 1 = 16 teeth diameter 16 with module 2 = 8 teeth diameter 16 with module 0,5 = 32 teeth diameter 16 with module 0,1 = 160 teeth and so on... Theres also a formula for this (number of teeth = diameter / module)
Well gears are way better to use for tank tracks instead of directly using wheels, theyre also good to get really slow rpm for example aiming turrets. But just use regular wheels for powering your car and simpler tank turrets that dont need to be very accurate
Then just use your browser's calculator, you can just search up tan 1,8 degrees and it will give you the anwser. And you can also do that entire part on the browser's calculator or even on your phone This isnt even that important for the gear so you can try guessing it, clone that center part and rotate for 1 rotation angle and scale the center part until you get a nice corner between both of them
@@Ovlubush No i used a different program called creo (which is for mechanical engineering) to make almost all the gears from 4 teeth to 100 teeth and i measured the top tooth length and rounded those values, and the gear pressure angle i used was 12 degrees (only took about 15 min in total)
